DinLuke Hot Take

So I've seen some posts going around regarding characterization of this pairing, specifically Din, but I wanted to put my two cents in for the other half of the pairing.

Luke.

As much as I adore the Sunshine X Grumpy dynamic (and they are the epitome of that dynamic cmon) I do see a large amount of folks pushing the 'Sunshine' trait to the absolute max that it almost takes away Luke's autonomy. And in some cases infantiles him. That's not good.

This man is a war veteran, martyr in the making, the 'Last Jedi' as of the ROTJ/Mando/BoBF timeframe. He's seen and done things that have proven his mettle many times and left him scarred both emotionally and physically. Most importantly he's a full-ass adult with complex emotions and traumas that affect his relationships.

The beauty of this pairing for me is seeing how the typical 'Sunshine' character can still carry that darkness and learn to confront it and grow with those emotions as opposed to detach themselves from it (looking at you sequels). Din, being emotionally repressed but in a different manner, gets to grow with Luke as opposed to Din just taking care of Luke's issues 'magically' by being with him. It doesn't work like that and can too easily read as problematic.

In my mind, Din falls for Luke both for his strengths (looking that hot in Gucci and Chanel while kicking ass is peak Mando bait fight me) but also for how he carries his faults. How they've made him grow and mature into the badass warrior he is while still leaving him kind and compassionate. He wants to be there for his weakest days but only when Luke learns to ask for it. And simultaneously, he learns to be a more compassionate and forgiving person by proxy.

may i suggest...donkey skin dinluke au ? where imperial prince luke reminds vader so much of his late wife he gets this insane idea that he's the only one worthy to take her place. so after putting his father to the test by asking him different rare colored kybers vader would def never find (he did.), luke ultimately runs away from the palace and hides under a black hood, that is until he meets mand'alor din djarin and YEAH I think it's def too niche but watch that movie anyway it's a camp masterpiece

it only took bridgerton coming back for me to start daydreaming about dinluke royalty au again, about a reluctant mand'alor loathing the niceties and the superficiality of court, about a prince of naboo who grew up under the twin suns of tatooine and cannot for the life of him understand how it's fair to be covered in diamonds and silk while millions of others are starving and buried in sand, about two hooded and masked figures meeting while riding their beloved horses in the forest and falling in love at first sight, about them dancing together at the ball, realizing exactly who they are, about the silks and the laces being shred to pieces the same night.

Just another ramble... but lowkey want to write a DinLuke AU of Howl's Moving Castle. Where Howl is Like and Din is Sophie. I don't even know if there's already a fic fpr them with that AU, but I want to write heavy angst, and Din struggling to be a single father while trying to not succumb to his spiraling thoughts of being left out by his siblings...

Just imagine Din as a mechanic, that cottagecore life, the eldest in his family that has to stay behind to work for their family's business because of one, his adopted son, and two, to continue his mother's legacy (which is just that, a small business of tinkering machines)...

Then there's the "Skywalker," a moving castle that looks like walking in the sky. Luke Skywalker, known as the last Jedi, is rumored to take away little children and break families apart by ripping out the hearts of fathers and men to make the wives pliant and pleading to his desires... Whispers have warned the people to watch out for a charming blonde man with blue eyes caughy from the sky itself...

BUT, BUT, BUT... Luke is just trying to find force-sensitive children to teach, he's not trying to kidnap children but there's a lot of misunderstanding and of course, there's still a war going on.

NCKSMKCD, and this is for today's DinLuke brainrot. All of this stuff came from this... Din lowkey scared of Luke's reputation and doesn't know if he gonna believe him...

Things I see in a lot of dinluke fics that I go feral for love every time:

Din giving Luke a Keldabe kiss and Luke not getting the significance. Bonus points if Luke mentions that he likes it when Din presses his forehead to his and having no idea (until later) that he just told Din he likes kissing him

A dinluke spar that ends with Luke sitting on top of Din

Literally everyone knowing that Din and Luke are in love before they do

Every mandalorian who meets Luke going “damn he’s the full package. he can fight, he’s good looking, AND he’s good with kids”

Luke being an Absolute Unit in combat

Luke having lightning scars from Palpatine

Din disliking Han (if Boba is in the fic, him also hating Han, but loving Luke and Leia)

Din’s realization that Jedi Master Luke Skywalker and Senator Leia Organa are siblings

Grogu seeing his buir and master as his dads before they’re actually together

Din being soft when he sees Luke and Grogu together
