Panel edit! I’m not the biggest homestuck 2 fan, but the recent panels have been really good and got me inspired. This edit is based off of a herostuck roleplay I’m a part of that’s been really fun. Eridan is a hero known as Hyperion (or is he?), Roxy is a hero known as Felicity, and Jake is a paramedic doing his best. It’s great and there’s so much fun stuff planned.

While everyone is getting over the trainwreck of plagiarism on Youtube from certain creators, you should also be aware that educational content on Youtube is becoming a huge minefield in regards to stolen content as well!

Please remember Youtube is owned by Google and does not give a flying fuck about whose content is right or wrong unless a major company is striking the vid down for content purposes.

This means that a PLETHORA of (shittily made) videos made by small groups are plagiarizing Actual content creators like Kyle Hill!

Entire channels are created to churn out videos that feature stolen content from science/tech and meteorology creators and videographers—all to gain ad revenue and take away much needed attention toward important issues (example: volunteers who provide healthcare to Dogs in the Exclusion Zone surrounding Chernobyl function solely on donations).

While your attention may be diverting away from Somerton and HBomberguy, REMEMBER THAT PLAGIARISM ON YOUTUBE IS ONLY GETTING WORSE.

hbomberguy’s latest video on plagiarism has made me completely rethink literature and writing. I have never once so much as considered intentionally plagiarizing anyone or anything, but I there’s something more that has come out of this and it’s the names of the people who created the works Somerton (and others) ripped off.

Plagiarism isn’t just bad because it is lazy and disrespectful, it’s bad because it buries the truth. If you can’t find a source, the conversation is over. Somerton’s sources are fairly easy to find by simply searching his plagiarized lines, but that isn’t true in most cases. Most of the time, the line is a lot less clear.

Today, I was writing a report on English Ivy, which is an invasive species here in the US. I wanted to know when it was introduced and I at last found a source claiming it was introduced to the US “as early as 1727” on a .net website that seems quite reputable (it has multiple major universities credited in its home page), but there is no citation for where this date came from. I dug deeper and found a pamphlet created by a city government in Virginia that made the same claim, only to discover the first source linked in their bibliography. Another website (a botanical garden’s page) gave the same date with the same source hyperlinked. Of course, I have classes to attend and things to do and probably not enough time to follow the lines back to where this 1727 date came from, but if I had not just watched this video, I wouldn’t have given that date a second thought.

Of course, it doesn’t matter in the long run exactly what year hedera helix was introduced to the US, but it makes you wonder how many facts have been so vaguely attributed that it becomes completely impossible to figure out where they originated (and further, whether or not they’re true at all).

there ARE actual examples of historical relationships between women (or people percieved as women) not being treated the same as relationships between men, and that's because of misogny. that's because of lesbophobia. there's a very long history that continues to this day of sapphic relationships not being taken as seriously as mlm relationships, because they weren't seen as "real" or as important because there was no man involved. in the minds of many both then and now, it's the man that grants any relationship legitimacy, so any relationship without a man involved is just silly and frivolous and not worth anyone's time except as entertainment for a man.

james somerton's downfall feels so much more final than other creators and honestly it's more depressing than it is cathartic. i genuinely feel that he'll never be able to come back from this because hbomberguy (and now todd in the shadows as well) have so thoroughly revealed the hollowness of his work that its like... even if he does apologize, even if he does begin to cite and reference the way he should have always done, it's so clear that anything original that he had to say was so bitter and misogynistic that no one would find value in it

id like to have hope for hs2 like evryone else right now(lie) but also like within this new chapter theyve made like 3 meme references which just instantly curse it to become dated. like i know old hs2 did this too or whatever (i hated it then too.) biut like… in this upd8 they made a berries and cream joke… they made a how hungry joke… they made sollux say ‘no bitches’… release me from this hell. this comic is unsalvageable
