Ποιος θα μπορούσε να είναι σήμερα ο Χατζηαβάτης;
Κόλακας και συμβιβασμένος, οσφυοκάμπτης και δειλός, καταρτισμένος για όλα τα γραφειοκρατικά και διοικητικά δρώμενα. Έλληνας πλαγίως βολεμένος και ξεπουλημένος.Ο Χατζηαβάτης εκπροσωπεί την «κοινή λογική», αποδεικνύοντας ότι «κοινή» δεν σημαίνει απαραίτητα και «ορθή».
Είναι επίσης και εύπιστος, όπως κάθε μέσος νους, γι' αυτό και τελικά ανόητος.
άλλοτε παρουσιάζεται τίμιος και σοβαρός φουκαράς, κι άλλοτε πονηρός και κλέφτης, πάντα όμως σοβαροφανής το όνομά του είναι συνώνυμο με τον δουλοπρεπή, τον αιώνια συμβιβαστικό.
