Headcanon that Peter has an urban accent in Swedish bc when he first moved in with Sweden in the 70s, Sweden lived in Stockholm, and later in the 90s moved south. Bc Ladonia came around in the 90s he got more of a country accent in Swedish, but he has an urban accent in Danish. Peter doesn’t know Danish but he knows some Finnish.

And yeah I had a loose narrative in mind for the mer swe stuff!!
Den is a rich kid with behavioural issues who's been dragged to his family's lakeside cottage to Reconnect With Nature & Swe is the mer equivalent of a feral child.
So Baby Den (8 or 9 maybe?) finds mer swe in the lake but he's too busy being like I miss my friends </3 theres no wifi here </3 I hate my father </3 to actually pay a ton of attention to the mythical creature in the lake. Swe tries very awkwardly to win him over like hey . Here's a fish carcass. Its kind of nice in this lake right. And over the years they develop an ill defined friendship/relationship
I based mer Swe loosely on a Greenland shark. Also I like the idea of Swe starting out as a cute baby fish and gradually getting scarier/less human looking.
But also the more time he spends around Den the more human he gets. Cuts his hair like a human. Has a hard time fitting in w other mer people. Cant enable his crippling nicotine addiction underwater (Den delivers illicit human goods)
