Gideon would not be some suave fuckboy picking up chicks like skittles and somehow having Harrow as the person that settles her--Gideon has been starving for home and belonging since before she was born, Gideon doesn't know how to interact with strangers even if she barks out something aggressive or recites some line she's read, Gideon nearly blacks out when a girl she finds pretty implies the most minuscule of interest in her.
Gideon is also, without question, submissive when it comes to her relationships, and while she spits like a startled cat at Harrow (rightfully so, I will point out, as their relationship before Canaan House was violent and cruel and oppressive), she responds immediately and desperately to even the faintest taste of approval.
Even when we're in her head, even when we see her make some brazen statement or thought, even when she lashes out and tries to be bigger and bolder than she feels, we still see how awkward she is. She's an unsocialized teenager without peers. She's an absolute mess with no experience. She's the isolated teen who learned everything from material marked as too explicit for her a bit too young and took the scripts of them and then nearly choked on the reality of talking to a pretty girl who wasn't beating the shit out of her in a circumstance she could rightfully resent.
She sat there wanting Harrow to kiss her so bad, Nona dipped down to offer her relief that fell hollow as soon as Gideon knew it wasn't from her morbid mistress of bones. She's a performative little shit. An anxious, floundering, helpless butch who is quite literally dying to have someone use her, want her, and who doesn't know what to do with it other than artlessly throw up her feathers.

It kills me that Gideon doesn’t realize how much Harrowhark loves her, because she thinks she’s got the hots for the Body and can’t love anything else. In HtN she’s so so fucking close to putting it together, Gideon practically describes what Harrowhark has done to her like Harrow created a whole new locked tomb in her mind to put Gideon in and somehow thinks she did that because Harrow doesn’t want to be beholden to anyone, instead of the truth that that’s the only way Harrow knows how to love. Gideon walked herself to the right up to the answer and turned the other way and it kills me and Jod do I love this series

Ianthe might be my fav character in the series.
Cause like. What is this girl thinking?
How the fuck is her fatal flaw putting others before herself???? Because on all accounts she should be selfish.
Like she’s got 99 insane qualities but selfishness isn’t one of them????
We literally learn in book one she nearly died in the womb from lack of oxygen due to Coronabeth which damn near sums up their relationship.
She pretends to be a weaker necromancer so she can make it look like her sister is one.
I’m like 90% sure Coronabeth killed Naberius to take up the mantel of Cavalier primary but Ianthe (like a semi normal person) ate him instead of her sister.
And she fucking consistently covers her sisters ass. She outright defends her. She literally stabs Harrow in the hand for implying her sister is probably dead.
Hell when duplicitous sluts 1 and 2 “kill” Jod damning the nine houses both she and Gideon are the only two in the room who care about the innocent lives.
THEN she literally risks her own ass diving after Augustine (who’s fighting Jod alligator wrangling style) all the way to the freaking bottom of the river™️ with the literal mouth of hell trying to drag people in.
She makes the actual right choice of saving Jod aka not dooming the solar system to sun death. (Which once again Jod 100% did not care about her that much she had built the best rapport with Augustine)
But meanwhile this bitch is actually insane and off putting in a malnourished French quarter vampire way.
Anyway TL;DR I love Ianthe Naberius Tridentarius I want to study her for science.
