ngl i’m fascinated by how sara is written because there’s this sort of depressing explicitness in all how abundantly clear it is that her leadership is fabricated. that’s not only because of her survival rates and how the group interacts with her, though, it’s because she’s consistently losing. at first, the game wants us to believe that the trust her allies invest in her is primarily an advantage. her high survival rate is a good thing, isn’t it? take miss sara and her 15.5% survival rate, her near-universal trust from the group. compare her to shin, whose 0.0% caused him to throw his entire self away in favor of survival, who was willing to sacrifice himself for his sister even with the knowledge that she’d have picked sara over him if she could. doesn’t sara seem to be much better off? then the game begins to challenge that. joe inevitably dies, and as we learn later on, sara’s high survival percentage was the very reason he was dragged into the game to begin with. more deaths begin to pile onto sara’s shoulders, and as illogical as it is to do so, she blames herself for all of them. she’s the main target of shin’s vitriol because of her survival percentage before she even knows it, setting them up to be enemies. sara having a moment of instability where she lets her worst and cruelest desires out ends up getting one of the yabusames killed because their killer invested that much trust in her and that much desire to get her out alive. this is the natural consequence of her leadership, of course, but just like her leadership, it’s all fabricated.

every single accomplishment the group has made in the game has always been met with a setback. this isn’t a game where it’s realistic to assume that they need to uncover just enough information to escape. this is a game where we cross our fingers and hope at least one of them makes it out alive. their attempt to escape in chapter 2 (which was spearheaded by shin and nao, by the way; the main way sara helped was by convincing the rest of the group to come along after almost everything was set in place) accomplished nothing. the fight to find out gashu’s transgression seemed like it would be so significant, but ultimately it did nothing to stop anyone from dying. sara repeats every chapter that she’s going to do her best to get everyone out alive, and every chapter she has a moment where her hope is renewed, and yet every chapter someone dies and she can do nothing about it. it’s all fabricated. progress is meaningless. she was boosted to the position of leader, but ultimately she can do nothing but watch her friends be slaughtered because that’s how the game was designed. sara’s the example of the game working exactly how it should... and shin, the 0.0% underdog who, in some routes, has somehow lived to the end, is the only challenge posed to asunaro. i really hope nankidai does something interesting with their dynamic in 3-2’s logic route, explores the sheer impossibility of shin ending up at the end of the game and how much he contrasts with sara being right where she should be.

thinking about this again and just wanted to clarify that i don’t think the joe ai is solely responsible for ranmaru’s actions in the logic route. i personally think between him already considering the idea of winning and sara adding fuel to the fire, he was already on the fence about whether he should try it or not. the joe ai was just the final shove he needed to make up his mind.

Just thought of a cute Mishima/Hayasaka AU.

They're friends at school, great friends. Mishima is an artist and Hayasaka, pushed by his parents to do so, does Computing. However, Hayasaka's real passion is playing the piano.

After a while, Hayasaka realises that he's fallen for his friend. So he decides to express this via a song he writes.

One problem. Hayasaka can't sing. At all. In fact, Mishima regularly teases him for it.

So he goes to a voice teacher, in secret from his parents and Mishima, to learn how to sing, continuing to push for even when his parents find out and disapprove.

Eventually, the day comes, and Hayasaka produces a beautiful performance for Mishima, who returns his feelings.

And then there's an epilogue of them years later ballroom dancing to the song on their anniversary-
