Title name
No this isn't an April Fools joke, I'm finally getting started with that "Narrator vs the Engines" idea from May of last year (yikes!), but I need a name for it. Idk when the first chapter will come out but it will come out sometime this year!

Claw of the Law’s “Dieselization” Effect explained
Tumblr media
When Diesel 10 stole Lady’s whistle and her magic, he quickly used them to reshape the island in his own image. Instead of destroying every steam engine, however, he did steal their wheels.
Wheels play a large part in this au, as they allow for an engine to switch between a human shape and their engine shape. Without them, an engine would be stuck in their human shape and would have to rely on others to get around.
He made every steam engine a deal…if they agreed to become diesels, they’d be given their wheels back and would gain the ability to switch between “human” and engine. If they refused the deal, they’d be stuck in their human shape without their wheels and be forced to use other engines for transportation.
Many took up the deal, thinking they could outsmart 10 at his own game, but that choice proved to be there undoing. Unbeknownst to them, Dieselized steamers tend to follow 10’s every command.
It’s easy to tell if a Steam Engine has been dieselized, as their appearance and personality reflects it. Steam engines typically have colorful hair that reflects their paintjob, while Diesels have plain black hair with maybe a streak or two of color. Dieselized steam engines have dark hair with three streaks of color in it.
Their eyes also change, as the original eye color suddenly becomes two toned. The original eye color is on the bottom while a gold color sits on top of it. The Sclera (whites of the eye) become yellow as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Personality wise, a steam engine’s personality becomes swapped when they are dieselized. For example, when Gordon was dieselized, he went from being grandiose and bold to being quiet and shy (and a little unhinged). Whenever Henry was dieselized, he went from being kind and assertive to being a complete asshole who’s full of himself.
On top of the personality change, dieselized steamers don’t remember anything prior to their dieselization. They usually get a new “name” from Diesel 10. For example, Gordon is now named “04”, Henry is now “03”, James is "05", etc.
Lady and Thomas believe that it can be reversed, but they have to get Lady’s whistle back first. They also have to be careful as not to get dieselized themselves!

Ok so I just found something weird about Ryan and Thomas' classes…
I was looking into the LB&SCR E2s and GNR N2s because I wanted to write some fanfiction with Thomas and Ryan. As I was reading some Wikipedia articles, something caught my eye, and that was the difference in Traction Effort.
In simplest terms, Traction Effort is basically the amount of pushing and shoving forces that an engine has. The higher the number, the more the engine can pull and push. It’s measured in both Kilo-Newtons (kN) and in Pounds Force (Ibf). 1 kN is equivalent to 22.8 Ibf. There is a way to calculate an engine’s Traction Effort but the formula is super complex even in its simplified form and I suck at math. If anyone wants to double check this, be my guest.
So, according to Wikipedia and its subsequent sources, Ryan’s traction effort is 19,945 lbf (88.72 kN). Thomas, meanwhile, has 21,397 lbf (94.78 kN).
If this is accurate to both the E2s and the N2s, then that means that Thomas had nothing to worry about. Thomas is, at least from a traction effort standpoint, the better engine. Yes, there are other factors when determining which engine is better, but Thomas beats Ryan in one of the most important factors, that being how much he can pull and push.
“So Thomas was jealous for no reason? We already knew that, so what’s the point?" Well dear reader, you’d be half right. See, here’s where things get interesting.
I’m sure we all know that the E2s sucked at their job. They were too big to work on the lines they were meant for and had a plethora of other issues. Their small bunkers made them unfit for long distances, and the Second Series (the ones with the extended side tanks that were supposed to replace the first) had an inadequate water supply. Due to these issues, they didn’t last long and they were all withdrawn and scrapped between 1961 and 1963.
What I bet you’d probably figured out by now is that Ryan’s class faired far better than Thomas’ class. While most were withdrawn much sooner than Thomas’ (from 1955 and 1962), they were frequently used and considered reliable. Most of Ryan’s siblings worked at Kings Cross and Moorgate as suburban passenger services, meanwhile the E2s were kept mostly at docks and yards at London Bridge Stations and Victoria and hardly did anything but shunt. On top of all of this, Ryan's class had a much better fuel and water capacity.
Now take all of this info and place it in context of SLOTLT.
Imagine a SLOTLT movie that shows us that Thomas is insecure about his faults despite his numerous rebuilds. Then in comes this fancy new GNR engine that, while slightly weaker than Thomas, can travel farther thus can deliver more trains across Sodor. Now have that same engine show off this ability on Thomas' own branchline. On top of all of that, have everyone brag and comment on how better Ryan is as a passenger train than Thomas. Cut back to Thomas at the construction site hearing about this, and becoming furious (but moreso scared) about Ryan and becomes convinced he's being replaced.
Now imagine Ryan being the one to pull the shipwreck instead of Donald and Douglas. Now Thomas is convinced he's being replaced and either sent away to another railway or sold for scrap.
It's a small fix but it makes such a difference. It helps explain why Thomas becomes so reckless and irritable in the movie and when Sailor John rolls in with Skiff, he feels more willing to help him since "Hey, he bought Skiff, maybe he can buy me if I prove myself to him!"
There are so many other stories we can write using all of this, and you all know damn well I'm gonna abuse the hell out of this lol.

Dream Canon Mallard Headcanons!
Tumblr media
Mallard is an LNER Class A4 built in 1938, making him one of the youngest members of the Gresley Family. (Aged 62 in this au)
He holds the world record for the Fastest Steam Locomotive in the world. On July 3rd, 1938, he reached 126 mph at just a few months old!
Mallard can be arrogant and mean, but he’s generally well mannered and generous with humans and engines alike…unless an engine dares to defy the hierarchy, then it’s an entirely different case. He's also quite the Optimist, which plays into how he views serious situations.
No one tell him that Henry "Stanier" was built with stolen Gresley blueprints, he'll have a stroke. A merge of the two families would create a nation wide scandal!
He’s in charge of his own Engine Correctional Facility on the Mainland, and has 17 other facilities just like it across the UK!
This idea of correctional facilities came to him sometime after he learned of the scrapping of most of his siblings (save for Spencer and a few others). He was grief stricken, and clung to the first thing that brought him any feelings that weren’t grief and dread.
He noticed that him and a select few of his siblings were preserved because they either performed better than the rest, broke a record, had some major historic significance, or were purchased by foreign railways. It’s the first example that became Mallard’s obsession.
He wanted to give all engines another chance at life. He wanted to see if he could mold an engine to be better than their other siblings, and have them preserved. When the trial of this idea succeeded with Ryan (who was unaware of the trial and assumed he was preserved due to his ties with the other Gresleys), Mallard found his new purpose in life, his spiritual awakening one might say. He’s been operating his correctional facilities ever since.
While he has the best intentions in mind, he’s oblivious to the harm his methods of teaching may cause. He can also be full of himself when he’s convicted he’s right.
His main goal is to expand his facilities to Sodor, the bane of British Rail and to the Engine Hierarchy. He wishes to purchase it and reshape it in his own image. Mallard won’t modernize it, but he wants to bring order and essentially remove what makes Sodor stand out from other heritage lines…it’s numerous accidents and ties to the Reverend Awdry.
He's extremely close to Ryan, who he views as a son. Spencer is a close second, however. While he cares for Scott and Gordon as well, he can't let Scott's "death" get in the way of progress. He'll mourn in secret, not in public. It's the professional way to do it.
As one can probably tell, Mallard sees opportunity in everything, even in death and depression. He's an optimist by nature, and always tries to see the good in everything. Case in point, now that Mallard has part of Scott's inheritance and Gordon doesn't want to work anymore, Mallard has the perfect opportunity to go through with his Sodor Renovation plan!
When Mallard learned that Gordon was struggling to cope with the loss, he offered to take him to the Mainland to get him closer to professionals who can help him.
Spencer became roped into Mallard's scheme, but Spencer isn't too keen on the idea just like everyone else.
Thomas quickly became Mallard's "moral enemy" due to his Anti-hierarchy views. Once Mallard has control over the island's engines, Thomas will be the first one admitted to Mallard's Correctional facility. He's hoping that Ryan can whip him into shape, as he plans to have Ryan run the Sodor facility in the future.
Quotes:
Mallard: "Gordon, my dear brother-"
Gordon: "We're cousins."
Mallard: "Gordon, my dear cousin-" ____________________________________________
Mallard: "So Spencer, how's the island?"
Spencer: "Depressed, demoralized...on the brink of collapse now that Gordon got replaced by those three diesels!"
Mallard: "Oh is it now?~"
Spencer: "Please don't talk like that again-"
Mallard: "Do tell me more about Sodor's, eh...run of bad luck."
____________________________________________
Mallard: “Well look on the bright side…once you feel ready, we can return to Sodor and I get to introduce you to all the new changes I’ve made! :)”
Gordon, half listening: I suppose you’re right-wait WHAT ALL DID YOU CHANGE???”
Mallard: “Secret :3”
____________________________________________
Mallard: "So we're going to put the new Correction Facility over...Oh I don't know where to place it! Spencer, you know the island well, where would be the most optimal location for it?"
Spencer: "I wouldn't say I know it well...but if you're serious about this facility of yours, I'd place it somewhere along the Express route. There's some land near Vicarstown that's unoccupied. It'll be right next to a large yard and station for engines to train. Plus it'll be in close proximity to the Dieselworks."
Mallard: "There's a Dieselworks?! On Sodor?"
Spencer: "Calling it a Works is a bit of a stretch but yes, there is one. It's in complete disrepair though. It's any wonder those diesels despise Topham and our fellow steam engines"
Mallard: "Hmm. Good to know..."
____________________________________________
Mallard: "Y'know, I've been digging into your class lately in order to-"
Thomas: "The Hell?! What are you doing that for, you creep!"
Mallard: "...To better accommodate my courses and lessons to your class, since I've been told you're quite the water hog."
Thomas: "Oh you miserable-"
Mallard: "I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU, YOU TWIT."
____________________________________________
Edward: "We'll lose everything! Sodor's culture, it's heritage, and it's railways. You'll destroy everything that Sodor stands for if you go through with your plan!"
Mallard: "Ah, so my plan will work! What wonderful news! Now we can get started on making a new Sodor!"
Edward: ಠ_ಠ
Mallard: "One with our beloved hierarchy, no confusion or delay, and more attention to the poor and neglected diesels!"
Diesel 10: "Hell yeah! Finally, a Steamer who gets it!"
Edward: "He's using you to push his own agenda you twit! He'll forget about you once he-"
Mallard: "Step right up then, my fellow machine! Show me around the Diesel Works so I can make arrangements to give it a complete overhaul!"
Diesel 10: "Gladly Mr. eh...Mallard was it?"
Edward, under his breath: "Oh you can fuck right off..."

About the Dream Canon and COTL Aus...
I know it's been a while since I've done anything with COTL and DC, but that's because I've lost interest in them.
Looking back and rereading my posts on them they just feel...edgy? Half baked? Boring? SS is in the middle of being edgy and being decent, but that's beside the point. I know I should've fleshed these aus out before I showed them off, but I'm more of a "act now, ask later" type of person lol.
I'm not getting rid of them though! Instead, I'm just doing a gentle reboot of them.
DC will be getting the most changes. Instead of Mallard acquiring the whole island in season one, I'll have Mallard convince Topham that Gordon should spend some time at his Facility until he can recover from his brother's loss. With Gordon in Mallard's possession, the island becomes more reliant on him. His main goal is to eventually have the whole island reliant on him instead of Topham.
COTL will be getting a complete overhaul to make it more interesting. It'll take place in a reality where Diesel 10 steals Lady's whistle. Said whistle allows her to control the Gold Dust and grant wishes. He uses the whistle to make himself all powerful and plans to turn all the steamers into diesels. COTL will be focused on Thomas and Lady as they try to form a team to get her whistle back from Diesel 10.
I'll likely post more of those DC headcanon posts since they're easier to make plus make an updated info sheet for all my Aus.
I'm pretty excited about these revamps because I've been wanting to do them for quite some time now and I'm finally ready to post about these aus again. I'm always open to ideas and critiques, so if you have any, please feel free to share!

“You still don’t get it, do you?” A Villain!Percy one shot fic!
Tumblr media
Psst, @puffpal7 remember that Villain Au of Percy you mentioned? Here you go :3
Thomas struggled to open his eyes. His body ached and his eyes stun. He tried to move, but he groaned in pain as he did. He was half tempted to just shut his eyes again, and go back to sleep, but the sight of an unfamiliar room replaced his weariness and pain with panic.
His eyes shot open as he scanned the room. Boxes and other clutter littered the ground while spiderwebs were tucked away in corners and crevasses. The only light in the room came from the night sky that seeped into the room from a nearby window. The rest of the room was covered in darkness.
He tried to get up, but he found his limbs tied to the chair he was sitting on. He tried to break the bonds holding him but they wouldn't budge. Panic turned to desperation as he tugged and pulled at the ropes, and as he did so the chair only creaked and groaned. Try as he might, he just couldn't break them.
Suddenly, he heard the creaking of an old wooden door. His head darted to the left, and he was relived when he saw who it was.
"Percy! Oh thank the Lady, I thought I'd never see you again! Where have you been?! We've been looking all over for-"
"Shut it." Percy replied coldly.
Thomas was stunned by the reply. "What?"
Percy shut the door behind him, and stepped closer to Thomas. As soon as the moonlight hit Percy's body, Thomas saw the drastic change in his friend. His once long and green hair was now black and didn't even touch his shoulders. His eyes felt meaner, colder even, as they glared at the man in the chair. Thomas felt his body turn cold and stiff at the changes.
"Percy...what's gotten into you? What's going on?! Where am I?!" Thomas cried in desperation for some sort of comfort from his friend.
Percy's face turned into a scowl as Thomas tried to remember how he had gotten here. "You really don't remember, do you?"
"Remember what?!" Thomas cried out. "Percy, this isn't funny! Let me go!"
"You still don't get it, do you?"
Desperation grew into terror and confusion. "Get what?! What don't I get?! Talk to me!"
"Thomas, you know damn well what this is about," he began, "It's about us. It's about me. It's about me being in your shadow since the Reverend first wrote about us!"
"I was always the small guy!" Percy went on angerly. "I was always the baby of the team! The Green Thomas! The weird little guy that follows Thomas! Just another character for Thomas to talk to and mock! No one even bothers to listen to me because of it!"
Percy threw his hands up. "Half of the people on this island don't even know my name, Thomas! My NAME. Even after I've been delivering their mail for over sixty years!"
"You will never understand what that feels like. How much that hurts me!" He yelled at the man tied to the chair.
Thomas was stunned by what his friend had told him, but he felt shame more so then betrayal. He hadn't realized how his friend had been feeling, and now that he did, he suddenly understood why he was avoiding him.
"Percy, I didn't-"
"You didn't know?" he interrupted with a sad smile on his face as he went on. "I'll admit, that was one me...If I wasn't such a pushover back then I would've said something. Maybe things would've been better."
"But now," he went on with a smirk, "Now I can...and now I'm going to make everyone know how they've wronged us!"
"...Us?" Thomas questioned.
"The Diesels. Or more specifically...Diesel 10."
"10?!" Thomas yelled in shock. "Why would you help Diesel 10?! Out of all the diesels-"
"Don't you remember when I brought you here? Don't you remember seeing how run down this place is?"
Thomas frantically tried to remember what Percy was refering to, and as he did so it finally came together. Supplies from the Steamworks have been going missing, and eventually Kevin himself disapeared.
Victor and Thomas split up to search for him, but he somehow ended up at Vickarstown. He must've taken a wrong turn somewhere, because the last thing he remembers was rushing into a decrepit building and being grabbed by Den and Dart.
He remembered the dark and derelict building that was falling apart at the seams. It recked of oil, grease, and other much fouler smells Thomas didn't want to recall. His nose burned at the memory.
He remembered being shocked at how ruined everything was, and being mortified that there were people living in such a wasteland. The Diesels that he was friends with were sleeping on matts next to barrel fires. He felt sick upon seeing it.
Percy saw the look of shock and realization his Thomas' face, and so he went on with a smirk.
"Topham doesn't listen to the Diesels...just like how you and everyone else didn't listen to me. They know what it's like. Unlike everyone else, they get me!" He yelled at him.
"Percy, 10 is an evil diesel!" Thomas yelled. "He's just using you to get what he wants!"
"Oh he probably is," Percy said nonchalantly, "Knowing the history between you two he'll robably use me as bait to get you to rush to the rescue...But I have a plan for him should he try to do such a thing."
He stepped closer to Thomas, gently leaning over the chair, with his grin growing into a manic smile.
"You could say I picked up a few of his habits."
Suddenly, a knock on the door brought the two men out of their thoughts.
"Ey Perc!" Bert yelled from the other side of the door. "We're almost ready to go! Boss is waiting for ya!"
"Already?!" Percy yelled. "I thought we needed another hour?!"
"Nope! The Steamworks crane is locked up and the supplies are all counted for!"
"Damn, I can't believe Dennis actually did something!" Percy whispered to himself. "Alright we'll head out in a moment!" He yelled back.
"Percy, please" Thomas begged. "This isn't going to work! You're going to get people hurt. You'll get hurt!"
"I appreciate the concern," Percy mocked, "But as you'll soon see, I am the one pulling the strings here! Not him, not you, not anyone else but me!...Now if you'll excuse me...I have a Steamworks to steal."
Percy turned his back on his former friend as Thomas continued to reason with him. His pleas fell on death ears as Percy calmly walked out of the storage room, closing and locking the door behind him.
Thomas, both out of desperation and frustration at himself, tugged at the ropes again, but this time he could feel something begin to bend. With a might heave, he heard the chair crack underneath him. It was a small crack, meaning that it would take some time to fully break the chair, but Thomas had found a new sense of hope.

Rebloging this because I probably should’ve clarified that I’m in the same boat as the people who HC that Gordon isn’t a prototype. Ahen Unlucky Tug ahem.
It doesn’t really make sense when you think about it, plus this was kinda sorta soft retconned when Scott called him his younger brother. Plus, as I pointed out, having Gordon be 60104 (or 104) is just too perfect.
Gordon is in Scott’s shadow, just like all of their other siblings, so to have Gordon be the stand in for Solario would not only make sense but would also build on that dynamic.
Either way, I’m definitely writing a fanfic about this at some point lol
Coming out of hibernation because I made myself sad-
Tumblr media
It wouldn’t be too out of character for Gordon to be renamed once he got to the island since himself and some of his other siblings were named after race horses, only to be renamed later. Over time, his name gets placed into the back of his mind and he soon forgets it.
Well what if, out of habit, Scott calls Gordon Solario in front of the other engines? Of course, it leads to some light hearted discussions here, some reminiscing there…but then it turns into dread.
How many of his younger siblings did he lose? Both him and Scott lost 74 of them. 74 of their siblings scrapped and forgotten about, just like Gordon’s original name.
Then he starts to think. How much of him is still the original Solario? What memory was left of Solario? If Gordon never existed, would Solario be scrapped alongside his siblings? Did he, as a privileged engine, deserve to mourn the less fortunate? Did he even deserve to be preserved?
Gordon didn’t sleep that night.
