”Mind if I leave her here? She can be a bit feisty when she’s lonely, but I just need to grab something from in there,” the Calloway said calmly as they stroked the muzzle of his horse affectionately. “Of course, if it’s not too troublesome…” Derek tilted his head carefully at the other before offering a sly grin. “Just don’t tell my father. He’d have a fit knowing I was going out on my own again. And I wouldn’t want this place filling up with guards just yet.”
Tumblr media
“I never mind,” Yael smiled at Derek, hand going to his horse’s side, stroking it gently. “But I am a bit confused as to how you think your horse being here keeps your father from worrying....doesn’t her being here still imply you’re on your own again in some capacity?” She quirked a brow at her friend.

“How many ways can I tell you that I’m fine, Fe–– really,” Yael laughed lightly at her friend’s concern, pushing hair back from her brow as she moved around the sick bed that was vacant at the moment. She was cleaning the area for the next time someone came in and needed care, which could be any moment, as was usually the case. “I can’t hope to help anyone unless I am, right? So why would I purposefully push myself? I don’t want to end up here,” she gestured at the bed before throwing some torn linens into a pile, “anymore than you want to nurse me back to health. I promise, I’m fine. All healed up and everything.” She smiled, trying to reassure him. @felix-ex-tenebris

“Oh, Pandora,” Yael laughed slightly, hand going to her chest as she caught her breath. She hadn’t realized the younger woman had been organizing some of their herbal stores, “sorry, I just–– didn’t realize you would be in so early. The sun’s barely up.” Its light was streaming steadily through the shudders of the small cabin that doubled as a make-shift medical center for those requiring rather immediate attention.  @bellatorlukos

“Can’t say I do.” He shook his head sadly. “As a whole, the Backstreet Boys are better. They had better songs. Just because they had Justin Timberlake doesn’t mean NSYNC is better as whole. I can’t help that the Jonas Brothers are the most talented band of any generation. They’ve really matured since they were last a band.”
Tumblr media
“You’re crazy,” she shook her head in disagreement, not all that serious. “Stop, stop, stop,” she braced her palms against either ear, “I can’t keep listening to this, I won’t be able to take you seriously anymore, Ev– honestly, stop while you’re ahead,” Yael laughed, making a face. “I’m not saying they’re bad. Just that’s a stretch and you know it.”

“I didn’t want you to miss out on my company,” he teased. “You’re a really good person.” He said this seriously. “The hospital is lucky to have you.”
Tumblr media
“I think that’s the nicest thing you’ve said to me, Jonah,” Yael laughed, “I’m flattered you think so,” and she was–– the nurse didn’t think he gave out compliments like that frequently. “I’d like to think so, anyway. But, if not–– they’re stuck with me. Kind of like the PD with you, right?”

The Tallis witch grunted, taking a small step away from Yael. Damn. He really needed something… the past three nights had been miserable, and Elijah was finding it increasingly harder to function. “Like I said, I just need help sleeping. That’s it,” he stressed, shrugging his shoulders at the other’s words. “Besides, shouldn’t you save doctor’s appointments for people who actually need them?”
Tumblr media
Yael hated not being able to help someone who clearly needed it so she sighed after a beat, “look–– it’s just over the counter but maybe you can try Nytol? Or even Benadryl.” She was already rifling through the cabinet for either one. “Sometimes we give it to patients who are having a hard time sleeping but aren’t in a ton of pain either.” She wouldn’t be giving out narcotics without a prescription or express orders from a doctor. “It could help, more than taking nothing anyway. You don’t have a sensitive stomach, do you?”

“You may also be the first person I asked to help me eat them. And the only.” Felix said with a smile. The smile widened when she picked out a donut. “A little bit of sugar is not going to set back your healing. A little bit of comfort food is good for the soul.” He glanced up at the corner of her kitchen and shook his head, “That’s a little too creepy for me. Maybe, eh, we get you one of those old Life Alert buttons? In case you fall and cannot get up?” He said with a laugh.
Tumblr media
“Well, I’m a very good choice because I’ll definitely help you with these, there’s no question. You might want to save some for yourself, actually,” she grinned, biting into the donut contentedly, “because I can’t promise I won’t eat them all.” Yael snorted and had to cover her mouth as she laughed, “Life Alert? Really? I mean, it’s not the worst idea I’ve heard, and is definitely less creepy than a nanny cam.”

“You would think there’d be plenty of moving companies that 1. have a proper website. 2. have good reviews and 3. aren’t ridiculously overpriced. I mean come on. It’s a hundred for just the truck, ten an hour and it says the standard delivery crew is two, so really that’s twenty. Including rest time. I mean not to be cheap but.. Is this where it’s going? I might as well kidnap every strong person I know or bait them with dinner for a week. I’ll be spending just as much then, for sure.”
Tumblr media
“Why don’t you ask Jonah to help? I’m sure he’d love to be in a t-shirt and sweatpants all day.” Yael joked, “or like your entire family– I always forget you have….five siblings? Six? I feel like they’re your moving crew.”

Claire’s anxiety had shot through the roof. She had been up all night reading various texts trying to find anything about the Ouroboros. There has to be some record of them in history whether they went by that name or other. She just needed to clear her head too many thoughts invaded her mind. Not realizing the time she stepped out for some fresh night air.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Claire?” Yael squinted at the figure walking past her bus stop on her way home from the hospital. Late night shifts always meant she was waiting for the bus at odd, infrequent hours. “I know what I’m doing walking around in the middle of the night,” she gestured to the bus stop shelter, “what about you? Couldn’t sleep?” Her first assumption. She would’ve usually let it slide but she liked Claire and sensed something was off.

“Europeans can be just as barbaric as Americans. Honestly, it’s like people don’t read history books at all. Who do they think pillaged and colonized this land? Aliens?” She questioned, rhetorically. People could be so asinine. “Oh, no, please do!” The witch chuckled, shaking her head. “I need the amusement in my life.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“People easily forget the unpleasant parts of history I think. And I think the moment someone has an accent, they jump several IQ points in peoples’ minds. I don’t know why but I bet it’s statistically proven somewhere that Americans do view Europeans as more sophisticated.” Yael snorted, “It’d be such a mess, I really don’t think you want me practicing. I took it in the third and fourth grade I’m pretty sure.”

shira-rosen‌:
Shira knew that Yael was right. And she’d go where she was told and try to excel there too because there were no other options, not for Shira. And especially not when failure could have such dire consequences. “Wow, that’s a long time,” she breathed. “And I just mean that in…well I know how hard you must work in the ER. And that people get burnt out.” Being a doctor of any kind was a huge responsibility but the ER was where the really bad cases usually came first in all their bloody, messy, panicked glory.
“I know where I want to be,” she shrugged, smiling. Confident in the way that youth often is, secure in the knowledge that she knows where she wants to go and what she wants to do in her life. Midwifery, just like her mother and grandmother, and great grandmother. The Rosen women were famous in their own way and Shira was not going to be any different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“People do for sure but I guess that’s where boundaries come into play. Like...it took me a while to stop swapping shifts with anyone who needed it. Sometimes you’ve gotta put yourself first to be able to do a good job, you know?” She smiled at Shira, thinking that the younger woman would do just fine. “Oh? Where are you thinking? I didn’t know exactly until I worked in the ER and then I kinda just felt like it was the right place to be.”

“I don’t need that, Yael,” he said firmly, only quickly glancing around the hospital out of concern that someone was listening. He was a Tallis witch, after all. If he needed medical security, he could get it elsewhere. Albeit, messing with the mind was always messy, but it was always an avenue. “No, no appointments. I just need something to help me sleep is all,” Elijah muttered, shoving his hands into his pockets. “If not you, then I’ll find someone else who can give it to me.”
Tumblr media
“You know it’s okay to need help, right? To ask for it too.” Yael sighed, rubbing the back of her neck, “I wish I could help, Elijah–– I just can’t give you something without a prescription and I can’t really prescribe until we know what’s going on...which is where a doctor comes in.” She pressed her lips together, giving him an apologetic look, “I’m sorry...”

Cece huffed, nodding her head solemnly. “Oh, yes. So many of them. Desperate soccer moms who forgot to pack up snacks for game day. They’re mostly nice about it and they understand we can’t deliver, but a lot of the times we get yelled at which is fun,” she said, voice lifting with sarcasm and eyes rolling a bit. “Nah, the kids aren’t too bad, to be fair. They’re not the worst of it. Old people tend to be more of a hassle, in my experience.”
Tumblr media
“Oh, I’m sure–– I feel like people get used to being able to throw money at a problem that they don’t understand when things take the time they take.” She experienced it enough in the ER to know that some people just weren’t used to the word no. “I feel like younger people tend to be more forgiving? I know it’s a broad statement but like..I don’t know, more understanding maybe?”
