You know I was about to add the people do t talk about Rei and Shinji's relationship either but then I realized that people don't really talk about her relationships with anyone really and that's sad too.

Rei II brought out a lot of good in Shinji and even Asuka in what little interactions they had before asuka started to self isolate, and was heartbreakingly close to coming to the realization that she isn't a tool before dying to the 16th angel. Again something that could have made things so much different if she never died there.

I love talking about this series but it so hard to find people to talk about it with normally, since fan discourse on the main three is just so tiring

Misato and Shinji's relationship is probably my favorite in all of Eva and it is not talked about enough.

It's so fascinating, eartwarming and tragic. She gave him a surrogate mother figure who made him feel like family for the first time in his life and she got someone who loved her as more than an object. They were so close to helping eachother through the things that absolutely plauged their lives with this surrogate family relationship and it is utterly tragic how it all came crashing down because they didn't know how to navigate themselves through the horrible circumstances they were in at the end. God I wish more people talked about them without mischaracterizing them or boiling them down to memes. It pisses me off so much when that's the only thing people talk about with them.

Recently watched EoE and i think the most heart wrenching scenes were Misato pouring out her heart after realizing how similar she is/was to Shinji, followed by him finding Unit-01 completely immobilized. Really hits home that there was no way out by that point, even if her words did move him or not.

I think the most tragic thing about those two was how different things could have been if Misato was able to actually delve fully into the role of a mother figure like she wanted.
