Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defences, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life ... You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness... I hate love.

Of superstitions and demise
As the old woman ushered us towards the door, she told us not to look back, while some of the family members tidy up the coffin of their former grand matriarch for the requiem mass. "Never look back again," she said as we walked to the outside under the scorching heat of the sun. Everything is in white; the mourners, the relatives, the hearse, the coffin, and even the sunlight. Nevertheless, the words that the old woman uttered recurs in my mind during that time. Never look back again. One of those old superstitions that fools us merely because of some ideas or first-hand experiences of the one who conceives it. Maybe because the ghost of the dead might follow and torment us forever. Or maybe as a symbolical act of leaving the past and accepting the reality that he/she is now dead and life must go on without him/her. Never look back again. She told us not to look back with respect to her own beliefs, the beliefs that were passed unto her by the people before her as heirloom, and it is not, I guess, good according to her if we did it. Or maybe she will be upset if we didn't obey her that time. Superstitions still exist despite the advancement of scientific breakthroughs and technology. It is part of our culture that might vanish in the near future because of the changes that are happening in our present generation. In the end, we still obey the old woman out of respect. After all, in my thoughts, nothing will be lost, and we are considered as part of the family. Recquiescat in pace...
