you had never been one to burden others with your feelings. perhaps it was that loud voice in your mind that kept on shouting to not annoy others around you, or just the fact that concerning people close to you filled you with guilt. you’ve always been told you were strong, and strong people don’t cry, right?
oh, how wrong everyone was. nobody knew that behind the smile you wore, behind every “i’m okay” you uttered, your poor heart was sobbing loudly. you dared not to show your vulnerability to anyone, not even the ones you considered friends, or even family. to be seen as disappointment was burdening your chest like an anvil.
that happy mask you always wore, simply to make others happy, seemed to shatter the moment you stepped foot in your dark room. the mental heaviness of your body and thoughts left you only sighing into the darkness, your frame harshly hitting the mattress. there was no joy in your eyes. you, who used to smile brightly, felt like you were slowly dying.
no one knew, yet a part of you felt glad. they didn’t deserve to be burdened by your troubles. even if no other person was there to listen to your nightly sobs and cries, you had made peace with that. for all you know, it was meant to be this way.
so there you were. in your room, dimly lit with the light radiating from your desk lamp, silently bawling your eyes out. your head laid on the pillow, the material of the sheet stained by the salty droplets of your tears. you weren’t aware of how long you had been crying, or why you even felt like it. it just happened, and there was no way to stop it. no matter how hard you tried, how much you tried to hold the tears in, it only made you cry more and harder.
your eyes burned, head was throbbing like it was repeatedly hit by a hard piece of metal. you could barely see the outlines of the furniture with how blurry your eyesight was. you wish you could just turn it off, to never feel again. or… to have someone you could cry to. but there wasn’t a person like that.
no one knew how you felt. at least, that was what you thought. one person knew all too well.
xavier was painfully aware of the pain in your eyes. the exhaustion behind your every smile. you were like a body without a soul, your gaze dull and almost empty. he wasn’t someone to notice other people’s feelings, moreover, he didn’t particularly care about the others.
but you weren’t just other person for him. you were special. he wanted to be your support, the shoulder to cry on. he was willing to be of help to you, no matter what would make you happy. truly happy.
yet you never approached him, and xavier couldn’t understand why. wouldn’t it be easier for you to let go of everything you held in? he would listen to your silent cry, that much was something he made clear to himself. your happiness was the most important thing to him, so why wasn’t it yours?
he was standing by your door, trying to listen to any sound coming from behind them. but your apartment was eerily quiet, as if you weren’t even there. but he knew better. he knew you were inside, suffering on your own.
as you laid on your bed, aggressively wiping the uncontrollable tears flowing down your cheeks, a knock erupted through the space of your abode. in panic, you jumped up, running to the bathroom to look at yourself.
the sight wasn’t pretty, it was anything but. your eyes were red, your hair a mess and face fully wet from tears. just the sight of yourself made you tear up even more. you bowed your head down, splashing handfuls of ice cold water on your face.
once you dried your face, you stumbled toward the door, possibly knocking something in the process. your hand made contact with the handle, and with a last deep breath, you swung the door open to reveal xavier.
“xavier! what are you doing here?” you mustered up the energy to smile brightly, hoping he would look over the red rim around your eyes.
you glanced down to notice a small box in his hand, and you immediately knew it were the macarons you liked the most. it was the packaging of it that gave away the content, and it made your heart flutter with genuine joy. even though it was a sparkle, it was enough.
“can i come in?” xavier asked with his usual calm tone.
the question surprised you, but you let him in anyway. with how dark your apartment was, his step to your room was careful, mindful of his surroundings. you quietly followed behind him, silently wishing he would explain his visit.
once you stood by your bed, xavier placed the box on the nightstand, right under the lit lamp before facing you. that was when you noticed the knot in between his eyebrows, not very far from a frown.
before you could say anything, his hand grabbed onto yours, giving it a gentle squeeze. your gaze fell down to your intertwined hands, then back at him. your eyes were round in surprise, and you barely bit back a gasp that threatened to fall from your mouth.
“why are you smiling when you don’t feel like it?” he whispered quietly, his free hand going up to cup your cheek.
he could feel the dried pathways of your tears beneath his palm. the cold water that you splashed your face with earlier didn’t get rid of the evidence of your tears fully, as it appeared. the pad of his thumb grazed ever so gently against your skin, drawing soothing circles over your cheekbone.
“what are you talking about? i’m okay,” you lied with a smile, though you could feel the tears prickling behind your eyelids.
“you always say that, but i can see how your heart sobs,” xavier’s voice was but a mere whisper as he drew you closer.
the forced smile began slowly faltering from your lips, and it was soon replaced by a quiver. without even realizing, a sob rippled through you, making it hard for you to hide your tears. one by one, like pearls falling from a torn necklace, tear droplets ran down your face. you couldn’t continue pretending to be alright, not when xavier was around.
a wave of relief washed over the man standing in front of you. he smiled softly as he engulfed you in a warm embrace, letting your tears stain his sweater. he didn’t mind. at least you weren’t alone in this, you had him now.
“don’t be the only one hurting,” he murmured into the crown of your head, earning a choked cry as a reply.
you tried to muster up a response, but nothing more than a sob came out. xavier shushed you gently, wordlessly saying that words weren’t needed.
careful with his movements, he settled on your bed. back leaning against the headboard, his arms reached out to pull you down on his lap. you had no energy to fight against it, in fact, you didn’t even want to. his warmth was soothing, and somehow nostalgic.
xavier’s arms held you tightly, like you’d slip away from his grasp if he let go. you cried and cried, body trembling and tears falling. loud sobs and pained whimpers filled the room, the dark place of all your deep sorrows.
even in his arms, it still hurt. why did it all have to hurt so much? and what was it that hurt? you weren’t even sure anymore. you couldn’t even tell if you had a reason to cry at all. it all felt useless, and utterly pointless. it felt unfair that xavier had to deal with your feelings, wrong even. you should push him away, right? you were a deepspace hunter, his partner. you were meant to be strong…right?
just as you were about to pull away, still crying heavily, you felt xavier’s slender fingers on the back of your head, gently pushing your head onto his chest.
“lean on me. i won’t let you go,” he whispered close to your ear, his lips brushing against your temple as he planted a gentle kiss on it.
xavier sat there with you, not uttering a sound as you let every tear out. his left hand gently caressed your hair, untangling the knots with a gentle touch, while the other drew soothing patterns on your back. his sweater was pretty much soaked by the time you were done, but he couldn’t care less. his favorite piece of clothing meant nothing compared to your happiness.
“thank you,” you managed to whisper, your voice hoarse and almost gone.
“you don’t have to thank me,” he shook his head, looking into your still teary eyes. “i’ll listen to your silent cry. always.”
his lips touched your forehead, calloused hands cupping your cheeks. he softly brushed the tear trails away, keeping his gaze on you. his touch was gentle, comforting. this man, the one who killed wanderers without mercy, treated you with upmost love and care. as if every crevice of your body was made of the most fragile glass.
“when you lose strength, i’ll hold you. i’ll say ‘it’s okay’ to you. just don’t cry alone, not when i’m here. not when i’m near,” xavier said in a quiet tone, leaning your head down to let you rest on his shoulder.
the heat of his body completely relaxed your muscles, putting your mind at ease. his chest slowly rose and fell as he breathed calmly, lulling you to sleep. your eyes began to close, and within a moment, you were asleep.
xavier didn’t leave your side, he wouldn’t dare. he stayed with you the whole night, occasionally waking up from his slumber to make sure you were sound asleep. as much as he valued his sleep, he valued you more.
he loved you more than anything.

⭐️ a pretty distraction
✦ pairing: xavier / gn!reader
✦ genre: fluff, slightly suggestive
✦ warnings: mildly suggestive, but no sexual content (only light teasing but no actual smut)
✦ word count: 2.2k words
ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 .ᐟ: xavier invited you to his apartment to hang out, but you were too busy with work to even acknowledge in his own home. so, of course, he had to take matters into his own hands
⋆˙ ✦ note: i wrote this very quickly, so the quality might not be the best. though, i still hope you’ll enjoy it till the end :D (this man has me in absolute chokehold and i can’t stop writing about him) not proofread!

who would have thought that being a deepspace hunter would often mean more paperwork than action? well, you were aware, considering all the exams you had to go through. but it was still astonishing. filing reports was not fun, far from it. what was even worse, though, was having to work on them in the comfort of your—or rather xavier’s—home.
a few days ago, there was a big rampage caused by a wanderer in the streets, and the damages caused by it were immense. since you were there to take care of the raging wanderer, it was up to you to file up those reports. what you didn’t expect was the amount of papers you had to go through. it was a total insanity, and a part of you was thinking of burning the papers, but orders were orders. you chose this.
you were growing tired of it, to say the least. sure, you had enough time to finish the papers up till next week, but you did not want to procrastinate. you knew the second your body would relax on the soft mattress of xavier’s bed, with none other than xavier beside you, completing the reports would be close to impossible for the day.
perhaps you were just a bit stubborn, or you simply just enjoyed torturing yourself, but you needed to be done with your work before midnight. that was your goal, and you were determined to reach it.
but not all paths were smooth, right? your path was full of traps, set by none other than your neighbor and partner. it was driving you mad, and you were trying very hard to keep your cool. your patience may not have been made of steel like xavier’s, nonetheless you were doing great at avoiding all the traps set by him.
usually, xavier was a symbol of patience and understanding, especially when it came to you. he was supportive of you trying to do your work right, and he felt proud of you, too. not once did he praise you for doing a good job, be it verbally or with a head pat—which always successfully made you crave more. the little smile that lingered on his lips when he noticed how happy you were with yourself when you did well on a mission, or when you simply finished filing up reports. he was super proud of you, there was no denying.
yet even the mysterious hunter had his limits when it came to patience. xavier invited you to his apartment, expecting you to spend time with him, maybe even bake some egg tarts and then cuddle in the comfort of his blanket. so when you came up to his door, which he left open for you like always, and with stack of papers in your hands, he felt a bit down.
xavier tried to not let it show, but as you weren’t looking and paying attention, he stared at you like a kicked puppy. if he had dog ears, they would be flat on his head from disappointment. with lips jutted in a pout, and eyebrows tied in a frown, he sighed. he could only wordlessly sit next to you on the couch, feeling like he was invisible.
his deep blue eyes watched as you worked, taking a notice of each details. how your back was round and slightly slouched, then you occasionally stretching up from the soreness in your neck. how you mumbled to yourself as you read through the lines intently. how you often nibbled on the end of your pen as you read. he stared so much and for so long, it was perplexing that you didn’t notice.
in your defense, you did notice, but you were too deep in the papers before you to care about his piercing gaze. you were so focused on your work that it had entirely consumed you. and that was something xavier didn’t appreciate, not today at least.
“are you gonna be done soon? you’ve been working on those reports for the past three or four hours,” xavier’s voice called out to you, to which you flinched and your head turned his direction.
“i don’t think so,” you answered, still slightly startled from the little scare. “i still have a lot of papers to go through, and i want to have them done by midnight.”
these words made xavier sigh again, this time it was a bit more dramatic than the last one. were you really just rejecting him for work? he almost could not believe it. and of course, instead of taking a hint of his clearly frustrated state, your nose was once again bored into the papers.
there was nothing much xavier could do now, except for leaning his head down on the back rest of the couch, praying for you to be done soon. perhaps he was being a bit needy for attention, but he believed it was for good reasons. he hadn’t seen you in a week, and clearly he wanted to catch up on the time you were both busy with work.
normally, it was you who was the clingy one. texting him during missions, only to delete them afterwards due to the embarrassment that was eating you alive. frequently going on arcade dates, to which you always invite him to, and he would never dare to reject you. making him play a game of kitty cards with you, to which he often pretended to not understand properly just to see you smile when you won.
so when it was his turn to be needy for attention, he was so unfortunate to not get any. he tried to get your attention, and tried everything that came up to his mind. from telling you to take a break, to offering a cuddle session. he tried so many things, and yet nothing worked. to say he was frustrated was an understatement.
you hoped xavier wasn’t aware of the affect he had on you, how close you were to giving in to his tempting offers. stubborn as you were, you weren’t ready to give up, though. not when you were so close to finishing your work. nothing that xavier could distract you with would work, and you were sure of it.
for a few moments, at least. when you registered him getting closer to you from the corner of your eye, imaginary sweat beads arose on your forehead. it was getting hard to ignore his tactics when his strong arms wrapped around you out of nowhere.
xavier smirked to himself when he noticed the panic in your widened eyes, and when you tried to act as if nothing was happening afterwards. you were determined, but so was he. and unlike you, he knew your weaknesses, and he was ready to use them against you.
he waited for the right moment, and when it came, he lifted you up to settle you on his lap. he bit back a chuckle as he noticed you flinching. he needed to act innocent, like he wasn’t aware of the little twitches and squirms your body did in his hold.
“relax,” he whispered to your ear, “you can continue working. i’m just letting you be more comfortable.”
oh, just how sly he could be. you only played into his plan when you believed him, which he was more than happy about. he was patient for a few moments, simply just resting his chin on your shoulders as you worked. for a second, he made you think there was no ulterior motive. that xavier was truly just being mindful of your comfort.
well, of course he was, why else would he try so hard to get you away from working? it was for your own good, too, he said to himself. xavier couldn’t stand seeing you tired, or in pain, even if it was just a sore back. sure, he was mainly distracting you for his own benefit. he just couldn’t stand not having your attention on him when he was so desperate for it.
“you’re almost done. good job,” he murmured against the crook of your neck, his tone innocent and sweet.
goosebumps rose on your skin as his warm breath brushed your sensitive skin. you could feel your heartbeat increasing, and a part of you was worried he would hear it as well.
“thank you,” you whispered, swallowing the lump in your throat.
xavier smiled at how nervous you were. you really could be so adorable around him, he almost didn’t know what to do with you.
almost.
he nuzzled his nose to the sweet spot just below your ear, to which you shivered in his hold. he nearly had you, silently watching how you succumbed to his tactics. he looked down to your hands, observing how you struggled to hold the pen, like a hunter would observe his prey.
“what’s the matter? you seem out of it,” his voice was sweet, yet teasing.
the more xavier spoke against your neck, the closer you were to your breaking point. it was driving you mad, and he knew. it only fueled him to taunt you more, to distract you further. his arms tightened its hold around your waist, you back pressed flush against his chest. you were in his trap now, with no escape in sight.
“if you feel tired, you should take a break,” xavier continued to whisper to your ear, lips dangerously close to your neck.
you shook your head, not uttering a word. you didn’t have any trust in your voice, considering how on edge you currently were because of xavier. knowing yourself, your voice would break the second you would open your mouth to speak.
you could hear xavier’s breathy chuckle behind your neck, making the hairs along the length of it rise up. “you can be so stubborn sometimes.”
he was right, you were stubborn, and very adamant. or so you thought.
when his hands began to slide down your sweater, caressing the skin of your tummy, with his lips barely touching your neck, the muscles of your body stiffened. you were slowly getting the hang of his intentions, and you could only curse yourself for letting him cage you like a bird.
“xavier, i promise i’ll be done by night,” you turned his direction, letting him feel the warmth that radiated from your flustered face.
“you’re not being fair, y’know?” he breathed out against your neck, pressing a barely-there kiss to the shell of your ear.
and you are being fair? you thought to yourself as he trailed his lips along the length of your neck. his kisses were feathery, ticklish even. you were too busy trying to block out the tingling sensation his lips left on your skin when he began to run his right hand to the collar of your loose sweater.
“i invited you here so we could spend time together,” his fingers pull down the collar, giving him access to your shoulder. “but all you do is work. isn’t that a bit unfair?”
xavier’s tone of voice was still the same. soft-spoken and gentle, yet a hint of mischief lingered behind that sweet tone of his. something about the way he spoke just now sent a series of shivers down your spine, but it also broke the rest of your concentration.
the pen that you held onto fell from your grasp, and rolled under the table. this was xavier’s cue to lift you up, and he carried you bridal style to his bedroom. his blue eyes were focused on your lips, how you pouted and frowned. he couldn’t help but smile.
xavier leaned in as he walked, only to press a little peck to your pouty lips. this soft gesture cause your heart to hammer against your rib cage once more, the heat in your face traveled down to your neck.
“you think a kiss can help you? i’m angry at you, just so you know,” you muttered, face pressed into his collarbone.
he chuckled deeply, shaking his head. “whatever should i do?”
once you were by the door of his room, xavier kicked it open. he stepped in, walking towards the bed to settle you into the sheets. he slowly crawled next to you, wrapping his arms around your frame. before he could push your face to his chest, you took in how his room looked.
“you had this planned, didn’t you?” you asked, the corners of your lips turning upwards.
the blinds of his room were closed, the only source of light were the star shaped lights hanging on the walls. on the nightstand behind him was a tray of macarons, most likely strawberry and blueberry flavored, judging by the colors. the room had a scent of lavender and vanilla, soothing yet sweet.
“i did, but you almost ruined the surprise. if i didn’t pull you away from the reports, my hard work would have been wasted,” he said teasingly, his hand reaching for the back of your neck.
xavier pulled you in, his lips pressing against yours. the kiss was slow, yet desperate, as if he were waiting for you for hundreds of years instead of four hours.
he pulled back to look into your eyes, and smiled. “are you still thinking about work?”
“maybe a little,” you answered truthfully, to which his eyes narrowed ever so slightly.
“then,” he began, slowly pushing you on your back. he was now hovering over you, his arms propped by your head. “let me help you relax and forget about work for now.”

⭐️ sleep, i’m here

ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 .ᐟ: you’ve recently had troubles falling asleep. luckily, your sleepy neighbor and partner is there to help

another sleepless night. turn after turn, no matter what you did, you just couldn’t turn your mind off. it had been like this for over a week. eyes droopy, skin sickly paler than usual. you were a mess with the darkest circles under your eyes.
you couldn’t even think straight. with how tired you were, your performance during missions got sloppy. mistakes, mishaps, injuries. things that were usually rare in your case, were now a daily part of your work. your skin was covered in cuts and bruises, making each squirm against the soft mattress painful.
whenever someone asked if you were doing well, you mustered up the speckle of energy to cover up the exhaustion pulsing within every particle of your body. others seemed to brush it off, even tara asked about your well being less frequently. though, unbeknownst to you, there was one person who was keeping an eye on you, even more than before.
that someone was none other than your partner and neighbor—xavier.
since he was always making sure you were safe, you didn’t particularly found his concern strange. it was nothing out of the ordinary, at least that was how it seemed to you. perhaps it was your sleep deprived mind, because you seemed to be utterly blind to his actions.
whenever your head was close to bumping a corner of your desk when you dropped your pen, his hand was quick to cover it. when you couldn’t keep your eyes open while filing documents, he secretly left a cup of coffee on your desk. your tired mind was making you believe you were slowly losing it at the sight of freshly brewed coffee, as bitter as possible to give you the energetic kick you need. bitter like the one from xavier’s brewing machine, you always thought to yourself as you took a sip, then cringed at the taste.
as you continued to restlessly lie on your bed, not even a blink of sleep coming to you, you tossed your blanket aside to sit up. your eyelids were heavy and sight blurry as tears of frustration welled up in your eyes. you wanted to cry, but you were tired even for that.
oh, how you wanted to steal at least a little of xavier’s drowsiness at that moment. you were sure that your neighbor was now sleeping soundly, while you were suffering in the darkness of your bedroom.
when you dropped yourself back onto the mattress, a sudden ring of your phone tore you away from a total breakdown. without looking, you picked your phone up. your eyes slowly adjusted to the light upon turning it on, and you were met with a message from xavier. huh, speak of the devil.
xavier: Are U awake
you stared at the adorable bunny chat bubble for a good minute. in your astonishment, you didn’t even manage to get bothered by the capitalized ‘U’ in the middle of a sentence like you usually did. your thumbs slowly typed in a short ‘yes’ before sending it, surprising you once more at the speed he read it.
xavier: Come here. Ill leave the door open for U
was he really just inviting you to his place in the middle of the night? why was he not asleep? despite your confusion, you didn’t hesitate to take up on his offer. leaving the last text unanswered, you lazily got up from the bed. with the phone in your hand, and a pair of slippers on your feet, you made your way out of your apartment.
you walked quietly along the hallway, careful not to disturb the neighbors. since he lived on the floor above yours, you found it useless to wait for the elevator. somehow, the idea of seeing xavier fueled you with at least enough energy to walk up to his apartment on your own tired feet, and it took only a minute or two for you to stand before the door, which were in fact opened just for you.
you barged into xavier’s apartment with a quiet step, closing the door behind your back. when the lock clicked, the silver haired head poked out from behind the doorframe of his bedroom. he smiled upon seeing you, silently inviting you in.
with your eyes half closed, you waddled to him. every step you took suddenly felt heavy, as if your entire skeleton was made of steel. the short distance that was the hall of his apartment appeared to be endless to your aching body.
finally, you were standing next to him. your head dropped onto his shoulder, which was something you wouldn’t normally do without feeling flustered. but with how exhausted you were, you couldn’t care less as you closed the small gap between you.
“there you go,” he muttered into the crown of your head, lips pressed against your hair.
your only answer was a low grumble that vibrated from your chest. xavier wrapped his arm around your waist, leading you to his bed. he gently laid you on the left side of the mattress before crawling up to you.
you watched his every move. he made himself comfortable on his side to face you, one arm bent under his head and the other propped against your waist.
the dim light radiating from the lamp behind you illuminated his face, letting you see the worried expression on his face. he studied your features without uttering a word, his warm breath caressing your cheeks. reaching his arm up, he cupped your face. the pad of his thumb rubbed the deep dark circles underneath your eyes, his touch careful and gentle.
“why didn’t you tell me anything?” he suddenly asked, catching you off guard.
you let out a sigh, pressing your cheek against his calloused palm. “i didn’t want to worry you.”
silent chuckle erupted from his throat as he shook his head. his hand slid down from your face back to your waist, expression no longer as tense as it was a second ago.
“you know i’d worry no matter what, right? after all, it was me who was making sure you wouldn’t hit your head against your desk whenever you dropped your pen,” he whispered with a smile.
this revelation had left you surprised. connecting the dots in your brain, all of the images appeared in a clear vision between your eyes. from the freshly brewed bitter coffee to the neat stack of documents that you left scattered on your desk the day before. it was all him. and only now were you realizing it.
“so i wasn’t going insane. thank goodness, i thought that my mind was playing tricks with me,” you joked meekly, huffing a laugh through your nose.
his eyes softened when he heard you laugh briefly, though deep down, he was still worried. how couldn’t he be worried? not once had he saved you from your potential doom while fighting off wanderers within the last few days.
“still, you should’ve told me,” he scolded you, though not very sternly. he didn’t have the heart to be hard on you when you looked like a distressed bundle of drowsiness.
you hummed in acknowledgment. guilt suddenly washed over you that you didn’t notice it sooner, but it was too late to cry over spilled milk.
“i’m sorry,” you whispered, glancing into his eyes.
xavier took your hand in his, inspecting the scrapes and small cuts on your fingers and palm. he lifted the hand upwards, letting his lips graze over your knuckles.
“please, don’t apologize to me. you did nothing wrong,” he said softly, giving your hand a reassuring squeeze. “just… let me know in the future. i don’t want to see you like this.”
the caring tone made you feel slightly emotional, if only you realized sooner just how worried he was.
“i will, xavier. i promise,” you nodded, lips curling into a tired smile.
he extended his pinky finger toward you, smiling while doing so. “then let’s seal the deal. pinky promises shall never be broken.”
you chuckled at the silly gesture, but you complied anyway. your pinky fingers hooked together, holding them right under your chin. only then you realized how small the gap between your faces was. the tip of his nose was merely inches away from yours, his breath fanning over your skin.
your gaze flickered down to his pink lips, the sudden desire to kiss them bubbled within your chest. xavier noticed where you stared right away, making his ears turn faint red. as if he could read your mind, he slowly began to lean in. his deep blue eyes were focused on yours, closing them only after his lips touched yours.
he hummed in what seemed like relief as he melted into the kiss. the world suddenly fell completely still, the only thing that mattered was the tender moment you shared. xavier unhooked his pinky from yours to pull you closer to him, desperately wanting to feel your warmth.
the kiss only lasted a few seconds before you pulled away. thanks to the soft light of the lamp, you caught a glimpse of the reddish dust on his cheeks. you watched as he took a deep breath before relaxing his head against the fluffy pillow.
“let’s take a day off. you must catch up on sleep, even if you’ll sleep for a whole day,” he whispered, his eyes fluttering close.
“is that really okay?” you asked worriedly.
“yes, i’m sure others will understand. now sleep, i’m here for you,” he pressed a last kiss to your forehead before relaxing completely.
the comfort and the heat radiating from his body was slowly but surely lulling you to much needed sleep. letting out a small yawn, you pressed your forehead to his chest. your breathing pattern slowed down, signaling to xavier that you had fallen asleep.
“no matter what happens, i’ll always be there for you. that is my promise to you.”
