On Marika and Morgott (inspired by the poem BLACKSMITH by Zeena Abbas - pic of it under the cut)

There’s a lot of girlbosses and feminism in Elden Ring but I just wanna touch on the patriarchal undertones of Marika and Radagon’s relationship. Regardless of whether they were always One being or were fused into one by the Greater Will, it’s clear that Radagon acts as a sort of control for Marika. Even though Marika is the recognized God of the Land’s Between, it’s Radagon who’s really in control and by extension the Greater Will. Even though Marika formed a Golden Order, the Golden Order we know is often used alongside Radagon’s name. We see in the Churches’ of Marika and Stake’s of Marika depictions of Marika in her hanging punishment state, a pitiful pose representing her imprisonment within the Erdtree and failure to the Greater Will. We don’t see the same depictions of Radagon in the Land’s Between. Within the Erdtree it is Marika who is imprisoned, and Radagon who takes over when the body is free. Even though Marika did the things she did in an effort to better the Land’s Between - going so far as to risk her happiness, freedom, and body to rid the land’s between of the Greater Will - we see that she’s not remembered in an entirely fond way. She is strung up, left half naked, with her free will stripped. This pose is echoed in the Land’s Between and while many do await Marika’s return there are those who also curse her name. A man is placed in control of her who is remembered in a much more respectful fashion - save for a select few who scorn him due to personal feuds.

godfrey must have fantasized about returning for years but when he shows up at his ex-wife’s front door everything plays out differently. the house she kept in the divorce is on fire. apparently his son was living in the basement and died there. he doesn’t even get the epic fight against the guy she left him for. instead his ex-wife’s soon-to-be third spouse shows up and promptly kills him. in his last moment he realizes the restraining order was actually to protect him

thinking long and hard about Godwyn and Fortissax's friendship like
>the dragons begin a war with the golden order
>Godwyn and Fortissax become “good friends” which brings an era of peace between the golden order and the dragons
>Godwyn goes on to begin the golden lineage with a completely unmentioned partner
>dragons are known to take the form of humans and even have relations with them, as seen with Vyke and Fortissax's sister Lanssax
>One of Godwyn’s many descendants is Godrick, who refers to the dragon in his arena as “kindred one”
>While Godwyn was the first demigod to fall during the night of the black knives, it’s implied that many others followed at the hands of the assassins. Due to the rest of the known descendants of Marika being alive, and no one else having a child pre-shattering it can be inferred that Godwyn's bloodline was specifically targeted for some reason. Since those are the only other demigods that existed at the time.
>Godwyn is assassinated and because him and Fortissax are such “Good friends” Fortissax proceeds to enter godwyns mind and spends decades, possibly centuries attempting to fight off the deathblight from within him, eventually succumbing to it themselves but still unwilling to abandon their “good friend” regardless.

Omen Twins Dichotomy Thoughts
Morgott and Mohg have such a fun dichotomy to me.
Morgott is doing his best to uphold a dying order, and, from my perspective, isn’t having the best go of it?
Every obstacle he places in our way is either entirely avoidable (poor cavalry of the night) or a bit silly (a single draconic tree sentinel).
His base of operations, though difficult to access, isn’t really difficult due to his efforts?
Like, the lift not working, the wyrm in the tunnel… those aren’t Morgott’s doing.
Meanwhile, Mohg has agents that play absolutely pivotal roles in hindering us. From annoying invasions that can stop our progress with ease (fucking Okina), killing our maiden, the source of our strength if not for Melina’s intervention (stupid, sexy Varré), and his palace is absolutely inaccessible unless you a) join his ranks to deceive Varré, or somehow get to the snowfields and stumble upon his hidden gateway.
Mohg is shown to be a bit… unconventional, but scarily competent, whilst Morgott is absolutely conventional, and undeniably a great leader… but a bit incompetent when you take a step back and look at his overall stratagem.
I dunno, I just like this dichotomy. But I could absolutely have a skewed lens, so I may be in need of correcting, heh.

Mohg feels like Gehrman all over again to me, everyone latched on one interpretation and doesnt realize how you can see more than what they be telling u fr. The miquella situation is crazy.
Tumblr media
Rant below cut
Lets be honest, a cutscene and an item desc cant describe a whole character, for all we know Mohg could only use the consort position to validate his title only. the way he emerged is by the vein, the finger. In varre's questline he pricks your finger, putting accursed blood in you to validate you for the dynasty, he drips out of his finger the same way as how the item you get from varre does, like a rite of passage of sorts.
Its more of Mohg trying to nurture Miquella to get the title of lord out of it, the assault part also confuses me because where? The bloody bedchamber reffers to the blood-filled coocoon, bc as the cutscene shows it has blood in it. Mohg tried to make Miquella prosper but it was futile bc what was inside was a husk, rendering Mohgs cause useless.
Miquella was only transported and set in the cocoon and once Mohg began trying to infuse the blood, he probably set a deploy, to go to the lands of shadow.
Its just Micolash over again, trying to achieve something and not realizing its useless to keep going. Micolash wants eyes but doesnt realize its too late for that because hes dead already.
Mohg wants to become a lord but the gateway he had, which was miquella's favor, was gone all along.
