No matter how many times I rewatch Paprika, I always experience something new. Quite possibly the only disappointment was that there weren’t more female characters. Or the relationship between Atsuko/Paprika wasn’t explored more.
I have a main question: why does a male fantasy help solve someone’s depression? My thought is (in regarding to paprika’s two known patients) that they loved that they were given attention from someone so enchanting. And if the girl of their dreams thought they were worthwhile, they were.
So then Osani getting rejected by his female fantasy means that he couldn’t solve his mental problems and therefore has to die?
Not all of us have gorgeous, enthralling psychotherapists telling us that we should ask questions about ourselves and that we should care about ourselves.
Definitely giving men are dependent on women type vibes…? I dunno but then THE fantasy woman is dependent on a masturbating man child. Ugh.
Still love the film, just developing thoughts.

“Um, I’ll tell Hendery if I need more,” the girl said stiffly. She hastily thrust several crumpled bills into Xiaojun’s chest before he could offer his number again.
The pair had stopped by an underclassmen’s residence hall to make the rounds for various New Year’s Eve functions. Naturally paranoid, Xiaojun wasn’t one to linger during transactions, especially ones involving halves. But in the spirit of the upcoming holiday, Xiaojun had resolved that this would be the year he wouldn’t be spending the celebrations alone.
“But – wait, you–” Xiaojun spluttered, letting the money flutter onto the seedy laminate flooring as he stepped further into her room.
Hendery grabbed Xiaojun’s scrawny bicep, giving him a look of warning. He scraped up the fallen dollars and waved apologetically at the girl and her roommate before guiding Xiaojun out the door.
“Trying to trade a couple grams for love again?” Hendery scolded, dragging Xiaojun down the ratty hallway. “They’re freshmen, you idiot.”

Actually for real fuck all the other neos. Now that shotaro is gone no one even bothered to congratulate wayv on their first album in 3 years. They dont deserve how happy xiaojun was for all of them when they had new releases EVEN when wayv was at their lowest point and had no music no activities no hope no future for a year xiaojun was so genuinely happy for them. Well im not a good person like that i hope all the other subunits keep getting shitty songs forever and i hope it eats them up inside that they spent the prime of their lives releasing clown shit music that people make fun of and they leave a doodoo garbage legacy. die

I’ve come to realize that this fic is supporting/displaying violence/retaliation against a girl saying no. And she gives into the manipulation.
I don’t really know what to do with this realization. In theory, or as a real person, I would not be okay with this scenario. From my perspective, it’s more of BIPOC men enabling other BIPOC men to continue abusing BIPOC women (even though I didn’t write the y/n’s personality with me in mind, I still assume she’s a woman of color). It’s despicable. But this is tumblr. I think I read a while ago that journaling your ugliest, most awful desires and thoughts is good for you. And that’s what I think of tumblr as, a journal of sorts.
When I wrote this fic, I was kind of crumbling internally. This fic almost preserves what I had endured but I also understand that it romanticizes manipulation and abuse (as do many of my fics). My reasoning in writing these kind of fics was simply that it was a way to get out negative emotions I was experiencing in a healthy way but it may have been ill-advised to share them… I think the romanticization came from trying to rationalize why those I truly loved caused so much harm. This isn’t my reality anymore and it’s so sickening what other men have put my through for me to get to this point.
At the end of the day, a lot of these stories are small stories about me and whether I like that or not doesn’t really matter. I understand a lot of people have had some sort of comfort from my darker writing and I don’t want to get in the way of anyone’s entertainment or healing process. I just wanted to put it out there that I understand how problematic my writing can be. And even though I’m a little disappointed in myself for not realizing this while writing, I’m glad tumblr became a safe space where I could release all these horrible ideas and memories.
