okay we all know that each season of the umbrella academy has an obligatory dancing siblings sequence and MY VOTE for SEASON THREE is both umbrella academy and sparrow academy and its a DANCE OFF to brittany spears’s toxic. No i do not take criticism.
the raw emotion... the slight waver in his voice... the vulnerability he's trying so hard to hide bc this is probably the first time he's reached out like this– he's relied on himself so much for the past four decades, help is nothing but a miracle for him.
the way his voice goes deathly quiet when revealing he had to see them die a second time. the bitter, sardonic quirk of his lips, trying to downplay his emotions bc he's been at this for two damn weeks– he's not going to break now.
and the flashback? the chatter being drowned out by the gun fire, the crushing sound of tanks, the roar of jets overhead. the smell of war and gunpowder and death being so suffocating and overwhelming. having to realize he couldn't save his family again, bc he wasn't there. he can only hope and pray that this time, it'll work. for every time he has tried, he failed. he couldn't save them the first time, so he'll be damned if he couldn't save them a second time.
I honestly find it super interesting that this season made Diego move up your faves, because I unfortunately had the exact opposite reaction. I liked him in season one, but in this season I dreaded every minute he was on screen. They just made him so. Unbelievably. Stupid. I couldn’t bear it. I didnt feel like his arch did anything. He was stupid from beginning to end. That being said. I DID like the last episode and getting to see his actual metal bending powers. THAT was pretty bad ass of him
huh, yeah, that’s odd! i thought they made him even more soft and likable this season! i love how he forgave vanya so quickly, how he set aside his antagonism towards luther and give him actual advice that comes from a caring place. i love how he just said ‘let’s do away with the numbers!! we’re team zero now’. his little side plot with the commission was absolutely hilarious for me to watch, bc diego is just so the opposite type of person they could control. him talking down lila at the end, his obsession with saving jfk, i freakin loved every second of it
also,,, i might be a bit biased since,, This Scene exists. and i adore his long hair
the scene where five screams at a vending machine is my favorite scene in s2 bc on one hand, haha funnie boy swear at a candy bar, and on the other hand, this is right before he has to give up his autonomy and become an assassin for the woman he hates again. so, he goes out of his way to buy one small comfort. he plays by the rules, puts coins in the slot, and the candy bar doesn’t fall. the fudge nutter represents stopping the apocalypse, and the machine represents the universe. all of five’s anxiety and rage about his complete and utter lack of control comes out in this moment because it’s easier to reframe things in terms of something simple- i’m mad because the machine isn’t working right and i can’t get the candy bar i payed for. it’s a brief moment where five is allowed to snap under all the pressure and helplessness that’s built up and in this essay i w
The scene where The Handler convinces Lila that Diego was in on the fact that Five killed her parents is so funny to me because, obviously she’s lying about that, but also literally everything else she says is either a lie or a gross misunderstanding of the Hargreeves.
“[The Umbrella Academy] is not full of fools” debatable.
“They’re family. What one knows they all know.” Completely untrue. Half the family didn’t learn about the Commission til this season. No one ever told Klaus about the Swedes. Several of them never heard about Lila til episode 10. Anything to do with Ben. I could go on.
“I didn’t think [Diego] was smart enough to pull this off.” “He isn’t. But Five is.” Debatable. On a good day Diego could double cross and manipulate someone. On a bad day Five can’t control his rage enough to convincingly lie to anyone.
“Diego listens to [Five] and trusts him.” First of all, Diego doesn’t listen to anybody. And secondly not even Five trusts Five.
“Five has been playing puppet master all this time.” Five wishes he could get his siblings to do one thing he tells them to.
