Honestly I love it when a whumpee is found like...literally half dead. They might not have one big life threatening injury or illness, but there are so many little things wrong with them all at once that their body is completely exhausted and the people who find them cannot comprehend how they're even alive when everything in them is worn down so badly. I'm talking like...multiple broken bones, barely an inch of their body that isn't bruised or bleeding, and a rising fever on top of things. They're slipping in and out of consciousness because they simply can't tolerate the constant pain anymore, it's maybe not coming from a severe wound that needs immediate tending on its own, but it's everywhere and it won't stop and they're more tired than they've ever been in their life.
And then of course there's the aftercare; the whumpee finally passing out completely and waking up some time later wrapped warmly in blankets, so sore and stiff and heavily bandaged they can barely move...they weakly ask for water and someone - they have no idea who - brings it to them, and after drinking the only thing they have the strength to think before losing consciousness again is that they're alive, somehow.

Youd think it's ironic because of the nature of whump, but actually people seek out stuff that scares them the most in a controlled environment (such as roller coasters, horror movies, whatnot). So if you think about it the whump community consists of people who really hate people getting hurt, and use whump as a way of coping with that.
I truly believe there is no more supportive community than the whump community. I think partially because it’s so small (I love when everyone reblogs an intro post to welcome people, even the bigger blogs) and because as we’ve seen with the survey many of us are very empathetic. I love all of you depraved sweethearts.

When the whumpee is hurt, exhausted, and overwhelmed, and everything going on around them is just too much as they’re being patched up, so they just burry their face in the caretaker’s shoulder and wait for it to be over. The caretaker gently stroking their hair, whispering soothing things to them as they try to keep them as still as possible so the medic can patch them up faster. The whumpee eventually falling asleep with their face still buried in the caretaker’s shoulder as the medic finishes patching them up, and the caretaker trying to lay the whumpee down so they can find a chair to sit near them, only to find that the whumpee won’t let go. The caretaker ending up laying down beside them, and letting them cling as they sleep, hoping that they’ll feel better when they wake up.

Magical healing
I know y'all hate it, but I’ve got an oc named Sana who has magical healing. She heals herself instantly and can heal others as well. Can bring back the dead as long as most of the body is left. Very powerful.
However, she’s a villain. So basically
The whumpee is dying of many painful fatal wounds. She heals them before they die and it happens again
It’s in her interest to keep the main character alive so she heals him, but only enough so that he doesnt die (leaves some room for caretaking)
She personally can be whumped endlessly. I’ve made it so that she heals slower from burns and broken bones.
I dropped a whumpee off a cliff and then I remembered that that’s very deadly so she got his distress signal and fixed him up (remember how brokken bones are slow?)
You just gotta be creative, it has some real potential.

Call me cliche but I love love love Tiny Whumpees with Big Caretakers. I’m talking thin and short whumpees with them broad/muscled and tall caretakers
The size difference is just so good cause you have scenarios like:
- The hugs!!! The whumpee getting cradled and squeezed by the caretaker and it’s just so cute seeing them disappear into the caretaker’s arms cause of their size. It makes me swoon
- Cuddles are also the best thing ever for the same reason above. They’re lying in bed together after the whumpee had a nightmare and feeling that constant warmth from their caretaker surrounding them is soft and soothing <3
- Carrying in any form! Piggybacks! Fireman Carry! OTS Carry! Bridal Carry! It can either be angsty or funny seeing such a small human on this hunk of a person. Bridal Carry can also follow the same reasons above for ‘whumpee melting into an embrace’
- Jackets and Blankets wrapping around the whumpee and turning them into a burrito~ I just like shock blankets a lot, especially if the caretaker continues to hold the whumpee while they’re wrapped in one
- Hands! Hands are so perfect omg. Holding their tiny hands gently and being reminded how small the whumpee is. A hand that gently caresses their small cheek and it takes up just about half their face!!! I love it!
- When someone is hassling the whumpee and caretaker just calmly walks up to them like “What’s going on here?” and the hassler just starts losing their shit because holy crap that person is huge-
- You also have that angst of seeing that small person get smaller when they curl in on themselves from pain/fear. The caretaker angry and guilty because those bastards look what they did to you oh when I find them-
TLDR: TINY WHUMPEES <3

one of my least favorite sci-fi/fantasy tropes is when somebody is resurrected and acts a bit strange and all their friends lose their minds like “oh my GOD we’ve done something horribly wrong! they’ve been damaged by the veil! are they even human anymore???” and 100% of the time i’m just like…..they fucking died. no shit they’re acting strange! i’m no fancy city doctor, but maybe that was upsetting for them!
