genuinely one of the worst things that’s happened to television in the last few years (exacerbated by streaming services) is death of Filler. going from 20 episodes to 8 because “we didn’t really need that episode where the main characters went to the beach right? it had no long lasting effect” but we DID!!! we needed to see how they act without the Big Bad Plot and to establish the dynamics between the characters and lay in the sun (do they forget sunscreen? how do they react to a thieving seagull? do they get buried in the sand or do they do the burying?). the plot isn’t everything. the action doesn’t hit as hard without the quiet moments. give us character development and our little scenes back

so i study decolonization, as in i studied it as part of my degree, and i thought I'd make a list of some readings/films that might offer additional insight about decolonization (it also helps if you're tired of the christian moralistic thinking)
occupation 101 (can be found on youtube i believe, it's about the history between isreal and palestine, it focuses on palestinians and it is quite comprehensive. there's live footage, there's interviews with palestinian children, etc. it's a must watch i think, regarding palestine. it points the finger squarely at the united states.)
the wretched of the earth, franz fanon. fanon is really well known in the decolonization sphere because he writes about it in a very succinct and clear way. to him, decolonization can never occur peacefully, and i think that's a really important key lesson. he also talks about how colonizers don't just take land, they reframe ideas, they take language, art, thoughts.
the battle of algiers, 1966. this is a fascinating film, it's sort of a documentary, they got the actual people to play their parts. it describes and interviews the main individuals involved in the fight for independence within Algiers. i think understanding how a nation can gain independence over its colonial forces is really important in the grand scheme of decolonialism.
unthinking eurocentrism. if you can get your hands on it, i love this text. it's so poignant and it lays everything out so clearly and it really shows how we center our worlds around eurocentrism and westernism.

“If Aang hadn’t run away Katara would be the avatar” “If Aang hadn’t been frozen in ice Yue would’ve been the avatar” wrong. Aang dies with the rest of the air nomads and the Fire Nation does everything to invade the northern and southern water tribes but has no luck until some 16 years later when Fire Lord Azulon gets jumped by some random swamp girl covered in mud and vines and she proceeds to absolutely whallop him. She is never heard from again by any government entity but the people of the earth kingdom tell stories about the wandering hag who will yell at spirits while eating bugs for years to come. She is then reincarnated as The Boulder

Supreme Court refuses to hear case that allows states to ban mass protest
You can’t protest in Louisiana, Mississippi, or Texas anymore. And there will be more states to follow in their example.
You know what time it is?

Hey, I'm a queer black enby who desperately needs to get an abortion, but literally can't due to my state's (idaho's) restrictive bullshit abortion laws. I'm mentally ill and have a part time remote job, but can't hold more hours. my roommate/friend is a trans person with a full time remote job, so fortunately we can stay employed out of state. but with mounting bills and the soaring cost of living we need some extra help with being able to move to oregon.
i'm setting my goal to $500 for gas, motel, and food, but literally any bit helps. thank you guys. paypal (pls ignore the deadname): paypal.me/jennycarsons cash app: $aboriginalsoull 0/500

Garak was late to lunch that day because he was building a bomb to destroy his shop. He was eating Delavian chocolates while he made it. He saw an assassin and knew for whom the bell tolled, but he still ate his chocolates, and he still went to lunch, just a little late. Because he was making a bomb to blow himself up with.

The biggest horror about this gen*cide is the loss of Palestinian children and the excuses made by Israel for why killing them was basically just fine in their eyes. Even the worst person in the world would be outraged by the murder of CHILDREN but apparently not the "most moral army" on Earth. Then you have Christian Zionists, some of whom are probably "pro-life" or whatever, cheering this on. There simply no words to describe how completely fucked up this all is.
