I don't know if you got this ask yet (I searched the tag and found nothing), but do you think the Dayne could be coded as people of color?
Hi, I’ve talked about this before on my personal blog, but basically yes. They’re Dornish, and in the ASOIAF universe, Dornish means not white. They might have lighter skin/hair/eyes, but they’re still people of color. People of color can have lighter features and still be poc. Case in point: Jesse Williams, Gigi Hadid, Jesus Castro, Rashida Jones, Kareema McAdams, Aishwarya Rai, and House Dayne.

“And what is it I want, ser?”
“The Sand Snakes freed. Vengeance for Oberyn and Elia. Do I know the song? You want a little taste of lion blood.”
That, and my birthright. I want Sunspear, and my father’s seat. I want Dorne. “I want justice.” ― The Queenmaker, A Feast for Crows.

Seat her beside him at the high table, and every other lady on the dais was like to take offense. Did Prince Doran mean to provoke a quarrel?

I'm the anon who couldn't bring self to ship elia x Arthur and I've finally made my peace with this - by deciding to hop aboard the elia x ashara ship, even though it's not nearly as famous as other elia ships. Hell, all the more reason to ship it! Anyway thanks for all the au scenario advices. And I wanted to ask how do you precieve elia's relationship with ashara to have been in canon, if there even was one.
What a wholesome ship! I’m glad you found what works for you!
I think Elia and Ashara were the best of friends. I think Ashara came with Arthur to Sunspear when she was young and so she and Elia grew up together. I know some meta writers pin Ashara as quite young, around 16 or so at the time of Harrenhal, but personally I have her only three years younger than Elia. Both because it’s less believable for me for Elia to have had her as a close friend if they’re 8 years apart, you know? Plus, if she’s in her 20s, it makes Barristan’s “love” for her worthy of merely a side-eye, rather than disgusting.
I think Ashara was the more openly bubbly of the two, a jump-in-with-both-feet kind of person, kind of like Oberyn. Despite this, I think she also had a very starry-eyed view of the future and liked to imagine what grand adventures she could go on, who she’d meet, and what she’d learn. Yet, Elia would always be her focal point–no matter how far she went, she’d always have a home to return to.
I think she was also very fiercely protective of Elia, and that sometimes she would purposefully say or do something worthy of gossip in order to force the courtiers to whisper about her instead of Elia for once. She knows Elia can handle anything life throws at her, but she hates feeling useless, especially when it’s at Elia’s expense.
She was excellent at giving advice, but (much like Alice in Wonderland) very seldom followed it. Contrary to her effervescent personality, I think she had a hard time opening up to people, and Elia was one of the few people she was able to be truly herself with. Many a night were spent sharing secrets and fears.
I think she and Elia had an incredible bond and were perfect complements of one another.
