The first incident at a Fazbear restaurant was Charlie Emily, in 1983. She was found outside Fredbears Family Diner late one stormy night on May 13th, her birthday.

Throughout 1985, four more child would go missing at Fredbear and Friends. This, along with reports of strange behavior from the animatronic and a bad smell would close the restaurant in 1985. The children to go missing were Susie Harrison, age 6, Fritz Mejia, age 9, Gabriel Yeboah, age 2, and Jeremy Sinclair, age 4.

In 1986, on the opening day of Circus Baby’s Pizza World, William Afton’s daughter, Elizabeth Afton, age 14, would go missing in the restaurant. The restaurant was closed the day after.

The last to go missing, in 1987, was Cassidy Táng, age 8, on November 9th, at the newly opened Freddy Fazbears Pizzeria Jr. Due to the circumstance being similar to previous incidents, the building was under investigation, then lockdown, then shut down. The reason for the restaurants closure was a combination of Cassidy’s disappearance, and a sudden change in the animatronics behavior, with the robots acting violent towards the staff and any adults.

Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy were built for a new restaurant that opened in 1980, called Fredbear and Friends, based off the TV show of the same name which had been airing since 1979. The animatronics would preform scenes and music from the show, always accompanied by pizza. -Fun fact: Foxy was never intended to be a Pirate; he was intended to preform behind the dining tables on his own stage, because he was the main antagonist of the show and Fazbear’s wanted to keep that same atmosphere in the restaurant. However, when William was creating Foxy for the restaurant, his oldest son, Michael, got into an accident with the animatronic where Foxy glitched out and lashed at Michael, injuring one of his eyes. Foxy got torn up and damaged when William dismantled him after the incident, and was turned into a pirate instead due to his now torn up and rugged appearance; included with an eyepatch to help make Michael feel less insecure about his injury. Foxy’s stage was redone to be Pirate’s Cove and he would only preform occasional shows.

The Afton family, pictured here in 1980 at the opening of Fredbear and Friends, were one of the most known and popular families in Utah, though as time went on, that notoriety became more infamous. -William was always an eccentric man, a born extrovert and entertainer, known for his ability to improvise on the spot. He married Joan Schmidt (later Joan Brooks after she remarried in 1988) in 1971 and had Elizabeth in 1972 and Evan in 1974.

-Elizabeth shared William’s outgoing personality, and could rope nearly anyone into her ideas and games.

-Evan was a naturally very shy kid, clinging more to his mother and toys than other kids his age.

-Joan herself was very camera shy and tended to steer clear of the public that almost hounded her husband.

-Michael, born in 1968, was a bit of an oddball in the family, with a different mother than Elizabeth and Evan and raised by William in England until they moved to the United States in 1970. He was a very rebellious child, drawn towards the rock culture and behavior in England and America, much to the displeasure of William, who always wanted a picturesque family.

Michael and William would often prank each other, however, and would often draw together as well. Michael’s drawing and ideas served as inspiration for many of William’s ideas in children’s entertainment.

🎃🦇📼 Halloween 1982 was an exciting year for Fazbear Entertainment 📼🦇🎃

The three Afton children went trick or treating with Henry Emily’s daughter, Charlie, something Michael was upset over. He was required to look after Evan for the evening, and would meet up with his friends and eventually ditch Evan in the process.

At Fredbears Family Diner, Henry and William set up a Halloween party with Fredbear and Spring Bonnie set to play the latest Halloween hits. At Henry Emily’s farm, he set up the first ever “Fallfest”, with events like a corn maze and pumpkin patch. William had initially made an attraction for the event, “Dreadbear”, which was meant to be a robot the kids could attempt to reanimate. He used roadkill to make the animatronic parts, and everything kept falling apart, forcing William to hide Dreadbear in the barn and close it for the night.

The TV show Fredbear and Friends ran it’s first ever Halloween special, involving the titular characters Grim Foxy and Dreadbear, exploring a house haunted by Jack O’ Chica and Jack O’ Bonnie. Fazbear entertainment made several Halloween items, including candy buckets, masks (which Michael stole for him and his friends), and, of course, candy. And later, Evan Afton would experience his first encounter with one of the “Nightmare” animatronics, based off Williams experiments with illusion discs and Evan’s current emotions towards his older brother. The incident would result in Evan panicking and ripping the head off his foxy plush to make the nightmare go away.
