Apoctober Day 4: Ancient

The word ancient made me think of turtles, mushrooms, and redwoods. Redwoods made me think of the beautiful rock formations in Colorado and Utah. I added some characters from a short story I wrote (Jubi, Blue, and Raskäl) for scale.

Apoctober Day 3: Witch

When I think of evil witches, I picture someone who can hold a grudge. Someone who could stew the perfect revenge for years. I was reminded of the blue herons that perch very still on the sides of the bridge near my home, watching the cars pass by with eerie calmness.

Apoctober Day 2: Power

To me, power means complete self control. The calm, cool surety that you have the means to take what you want. I’m not sure I captured that here, but I tried!

I’m a day late already, hopefully I’ll be able to catch up this weekend.

Apoctober Day 1: Grief

For grief, I picture this little guy latching on to mourning victims and pulling them deeper into their sadness, forcing them to feel alone and tired while they leech off their lifeblood.

I only had a few hours to work on this guy, but I like his teeth.

Edit: Increased the contrast because I realized the colors weren’t displaying properly on most screens.

I’ve come out of Tumblr retirement to post Invader Zim in the year 2019.

Fairy/ Fighting

Lapicer leaves its brothers and sisters behind to train alone in the desert.  It’s quick, hot-footed fighting style is unpredictable and lethal.  It is said that a Lapicer’s foot is a charm that unfailingly frightens bad luck away.  Even a cast of a footprint is enough to threaten it.  Lapicer’s signature move is Pixie Kick, a 75 power fairy type physical move that has a high critical hit rate.

# 64 Artemini

The Sodium Pokemon

Type: Water/ Psychic

Ability: Immunity/ (HA) Magic Bounce

This Pokemon’s body is nearly 30% salt.  Its brain sends signals through salt molecules to control its only other organ, which manages its empathic powers.  Due to its odd composition, Artemini are immune to most poisons and diseases and can live in any sufficiently salty condition.  They are an ideal first Pokemon for very young trainers, as they are simple to care for, and are always in tune with the emotions of the people and pokemon around them.

#38 Seepia

The Seed Pod Pokemon

Type: Grass

Ability: Klutz/ Unburden/ (HA) Cloud Nine

This shy little Pokemon waits for its time to evolve in the relative safety of the underbrush.  It is born with a source of energy inside its heart.  If it doesn’t find a source of food before that energy runs out, it will die.  Its hard husk protects it from damage, but it also prevents it from looking straight up, making it very vulnerable to skyward attackers in the open.

The Mud Pot Pokemon

Type: Fire/Ground

Ability: Arena Trap / (HA) Flame Body

Cauldrup is a practical pokemon that thrives in areas of volcanic activity.  It buries itself under areas of standing water, heating up the clay, and creating cauldrons of boiling hot mud that predators can't reach it in.  The inside of this pokemon can reach 18,000 degrees Farenheight, and it can open its mouth wider than its body is tall to spew out scalding fluids.  It’s unique attack, Boiling Earth, is an 80 power ground type special attack with a 30% chance to burn the target.

#57 Stumbloon

The Geyser Pokemon

Type: Water/Fire

Abilities:  Klutz/ Reckless/ (HA) Storm Drain

Stumbloon lives in areas with active volcanic activity.  Its internal temperature is very high, so it likes to store water in its body to cool down, though most of it is immediately released as steam from the vents on its head.  Because its body is very flexible it can store up to its weight in water in its stomach by sealing up its vents, inflating to massive sizes as the water evaporates and expands.  It releases steam from its trunk to attack.

The Seed Floss Pokemon

Type: Grass

Ability: Chlorophyll/ Unburden/ (HA) Cloud Nine

Flossepia rides the wind, releasing seeds wherever it goes.  Its entire body is made of waxy floss and seeds, with the remnants of a hard husk on its head. Because its husk falls into its eyes, it sometimes has trouble seeing where it is flying. Luckily, it is so light that ramming into things never does much damage.

#61 Aconyde

The Pursuit Predator Pokemon

Type: Grass/ Poison

Abilities: Overcoat/ Harvest/ (HA) Merciless

Aconyde lies in wait for prey in complete silence, sometimes for weeks on end, buried mostly in the ground.  When a pokemon takes a bite of it’s poisoned berries, or absorbs the poison on its leaves, it will track that pokemon down, and replant itself on top of them, waiting for new prey while it absorbs new nutrients.  In the event that its prey is too big, it will tear it into smaller chunks first with its vicious fangs.  400 years ago, its berries were used in makeup.  When feeding this pokemon in captivity, make eggs seasoned with its own berries, and bury them in the ground.  It will track the scent and plant itself over top of its meal.
