it's a very special thing I tell you *shrugs*
chiharata not romantic not platonic but a secret third thing (complex ambiguous relationship that transcends traditional categorisations bc they’re bonded by their immense love for karuta above everything else and through that they will always come back to each other in some way)

Also, thinking of what's in character for Chihaya and how the story was written since day 1, Chihaya wouldn't celebrate an Arata birthday "with friends" like friends do, she'll make it private, because their relationship was never and will never be about "friendship".

"This is about Chihaya being "herself" around Arata, while he tries his best to distance himself from her because of his feelings for her and because he wants to respect her new relationship with Taichi.
He even skipped a karuta tournament which Chihaya described as "their" day, a tournament where they had to be "the couple/duo" leading the new karuta generation ...
Arata skipped it and Chihaya was not happy,
she let him know it and made it clear that she noticed his odd behavior around her lately, how he avoids her..
uncertain but also hurt & unable to keep silent, she left leaving these words behind her: "I don't know what I should do and how to act "right", but I thought that I could always act as my genuine self around you..."
