The one on the right looks like it's trying to be a marigold
Daffodils
White daffodils with colored cups, my beloved. We have
Tumblr media
yellow, butter-yellow, pink, peach, orange, and 'it's complicated'.
Tumblr media
The daff on the left is what I consider an attractive double flower. The one on the right . . hmm. Congrats, little buddy, . .

Well this is f***ing genius
Tumblr media Tumblr media
today I learned about "thumb book holders" in my search for ways to read giant fantasy paperbacks without injuring myself, and then I realized I could make one out of the 20-year-old polymer clay that I had lying around... so I did. and god DAMN it's more effective than I ever expected, so I thought everyone should know about them. You can get really cheap mass-produced ones but this was fun to make and I'll probably make more ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

I am laughing way too hard at the absurdity and accuracy of describing double daffodils as "ugly sneezes"
Daffodil time
The daffodils are shrugging off the occasional freezing night and blooming heartily.
Tumblr media
The fancy 'doubles' actually just look - slightly exploded. If "ugly sneeze" isn't a term we use . . maybe it should be.
Tumblr media
Yellow; iconic.
Tumblr media
These with the coral-pink bells start out almost orange and fade to a warm pink over time. I don't have a photo of the ones with white petals and deep orange centers, unfortunately.
Tumblr media
This clump is doing just what I'd expect - except for one who is trying to run away from home? Sir, what are you doing?
Tumblr media
And this fancy friend doesn't have a bell at all, and is virtually not a daffodil anymore. Too much; too fancy; take it down a notch.
Today is cold, cloudy, sunny, rainy, and windy. A perfect March day. I'm going back inside!

If you are someone from whom people seek information that is none of their business, just respond to their question with an equally personal question about them:
Person: "So, like, are you gay?"
You: "So like, what is your and your spouse's favorite sexual position?"
Or, if you're worried this will get you in trouble at work/school, turn the responding question into a statement:
You: "That is about as much your business as me asking you 'what sexual position is your and your spouse's favorite' is my business."
Or even a nice simple: "Why do you need details of my sex life?" With a nice implication of them being a perv.
I think that 2023 is a good time for many of us, and allies in particular, to practice again the dying art of minding our own fucking business when it comes to the identities and lives of other people.
You see someone from one of your classes in a public place with a different gender presentation/expression than they typically have? Mind your own business.
You discover that one of your coworkers is in a same gender relationship, but they aren't out at work? Not your place to share that information in the workplace.
You notice that your neighbor in a red state takes a road trip across state lines with their transgender child every 3-6 months? No you fucking didn't.
You overhear students in your classroom using a different name and different pronouns for one student than you are used to using? If you live in a state hostile to trans rights, pretend that you don't know anything about this and report nothing.
You suspect that an acquaintance of yours might be gay, but they deny it when asked directly? Leave them the fuck alone.
One of your friends refuses to publicly label their sexuality? Good for them, you aren't entitled to that information anyway.
Your sibling comes out to you as questioning, but isn't comfortable sharing that with your parents yet? Keep your fucking mouth shut.
Don't out people; coming out is a personal choice not a moral obligation. Don't demand personal information about other people's sexuality or sex lives. You aren't entitled to information about anyone's gender identity, assigned gender at birth, or transition.
Bring back privacy, allow people to have control over the information that is shared about them publicly; it might save their job, their housing, their parental rights and their child's safety, or even save lives.

"... “I’m taking action because I feel desperate,” said U.S. climate scientist Peter Kalmus, who along with several others locked himself to the front door of a JPMorgan Chase building in Los Angeles. A recent report found that the financial giant is the biggest private funder of oil and gas initiatives in the world.
“It’s the 11th hour in terms of Earth breakdown, and I feel terrified for my kids, and terrified for humanity,” Kalmus continued. “World leaders are still expanding the fossil fuel industry as fast as they can, but this is insane. The science clearly indicates that everything we hold dear is at risk, including even civilization itself and the wonderful, beautiful, cosmically precious life on this planet. I actually don’t get how any scientist who understands this could possibly stay on the sidelines at this point.” ..."

If you're "saving the bees!" by adding more honey hives, you're basically bringing in chickens and claiming you're saving songbirds and raptors.
Want to Save the Bees? Focus on Habitat, Not Honey Bees
Tumblr media
There has been an amazing groundswell of support for bees, motivating people everywhere to act—creating pollinator gardens, planting habitat in parks and on farms, reducing pesticide use or campaigning for citywide bans. It is clear that people care, and many have rallied around this issue.
For some, a tangible goal has been to get a honey bee hive. As a result, hives have appeared in gardens and backyards, on rooftops, and in parks and nature reserves. On the surface, this makes sense: if bees are declining, it would seem that more bees in more places will help. Yet, when we look deeper, efforts to increase the number of honey bees on the landscape may be doing more harm than good.

I missed the window to harvest elderflowers from my trees, so Pan & I climbed to the plateau yesterday, knowing that trees at this slightly higher elevation are always two weeks behind in terms of seasons (nature's gift to procrastinators.) I made the syrup this morning—I was able to make 8 jars of elderflower syrup out of that one basket of flowers :)
Tumblr media
We had an intense downpour just after I took that basket pic, and I'd left books laying around in various places outside my house (the outdoor table, the hammock in the pasture...) It was windy and I could literally see the curtain of rain advancing in the direction of my house like a flying tidal wave so I started running downhill like mad, to Pandolf's immense surprise and delight. Nobody ever wants to race him except Pampe sometimes, so it absolutely made his day. I usually try to go around inhabited pastures so as not to bother the herds, but we had to take the straightest path so we crossed 3 pastures full of cows who watched in utter bemusement as an ecstatic dog and a desperate human with a basket full of flowers zoomed past them trying to outrun a cloud.

This just makes my soul so sad. I just don't understand this hatred of people who are different, who maybe don't fit in an existing societal box. It's anathema to me.
I worry for my fellow humans that are affected by this, especially in small towns where there may only be one place for them to get what they need, and now they have to go to the next town over, or even further. Does this also mean pharmacies can stop providing medications to LGBTQ people? Can doctors refuse to accept patients based on this? A grocery store refuse to sell food? Gas stations refuse to sell gas? How far does this go? How far will this end up going?
In response to this I hope to see signs in shop windows that say the opposite of what the supreme court ruled: "I don't care who you're marrying or married to, I'll provide you goods and services" or whatever. I'd do it myself if I had a shop window to post a sign in. That would put a small glimmer back in my faith in humanity.
