When people say they don’t think Lorelai and Luke work long term because they’re too different I feel so ??? because how can you not see that their dynamic has soo much in common with hers and Rory’s and he fills that extremely important role of reluctant yet willing sidekick and challenging yet supportive audience member? How???
We always talk about Lorelai/Jess parallels but I looove Rory/Luke parallels, too.
Oohhh and this makes me want to write more of my long rambling thoughts about how I think one of the reasons Rory threw herself so completely into Logan and his world was a coping mechanism trying to mimic her relationship with her mom but instead of letting it challenge and support her, she let it dim her shine and lose parts of herself. We all know when Rory feels stress, grief and insecurity, she runs back to old familiar comfort - usually to her detriment. Luke self-sabotages like that too but instead of looking outward, he turns inward and shuts out the world. 😮💨
the day that the gilmore girls fandom realizes that Rory is significantly more like Luke than she is like Lorelai or anybody else she’s blood related to is the day that nature heals
