all about me
My name is Kira Roberts. I grew up and have always lived in Texas. I never knew who I wanted to become but weirdly have always known exactly who I am. I dropped out of high school and decided to attend a community college. I now decided to drop out of college and attend an esthetician school. I never know exactly what I want and it becomes quite the struggle. Thats okay though; it will all work itself out. I have never been a social butterfly; I have always somewhat kept to myself. I like to spend my time with my boyfriend and my family. I also like to shop and spend lots of time on self care.

Ending gun violence in schools
Date:                            April 3rd, 2024
To:                               Tarrant County College Advising and Success coaches
From:                           Kira Roberts, Student attending Tarrant County College
Osvaldo Moreno, Student attending Tarrant County College
Subject:                       Proposal to implement metal detectors upon entry to all campuses
                                                                       Purpose
Our purpose for this proposal is to minimize gun violence and keep our students and faculty safe at all locations.
Summary
My English Professor asked us to create a proposal for an issue that needs tending to. Our campuses currently have no effective ways to prevent an individual from entering the premises with a weapon. With all the threats and violence happening within just a few miles of our campuses over the past few years, it feels almost silly not to create extra protection. The statistics of school shootings and how many students feel unsafe at school prove just how important this new implementation would be. We are part of the large percentage of college students who simply feel unsafe going to school, which is why we are perfect to conduct this proposal. Here are some statistics shown in recent articles (children and college students):
“Since 2020, the number one cause of death for kids in America is guns. In 2020 alone, 4,300 children died from firearms and many of today’s youth have grown up practicing active shooter drills in schools.”
“Gun violence and control issues have become serious public health problems. This study gathered the opinions of 419 college students from a Midwestern University. Participants were asked about beliefs about t purchasing assault weapons, beliefs about bringing handguns to college campuses, and beliefs about contributing factors that lead to gun violence. Participants completed surveys online. The findings showed that overall, 54 % of respondents believed that military assault weapons should be banned and 53 % agree that teachers should be allowed to carry a registered handgun on campus.”
This proves that many students are affected by the anxiety that an armed individual could be in their classroom at any time. 54% of the college student participants voted that guns should be banned completely, but 53% believed that each teacher should be allowed to open carry on campus. (Meaning 53% of these participants would feel safer knowing they are always protected.)
We plan to conduct research to detect how many of our students attending TCC feel unsafe being on campus; we also plan to research if those who feel unsafe would feel safer knowing it is practically impossible to carry a gun on campus grounds. We predict that these statistics will be enough to prove that this policy needs to be implemented.
                                                                  Introduction
My English Professor asked us to create a proposal for an issue that needs tending to. Our campuses currently have no effective ways to prevent an individual from entering the premises with a weapon. With all the threats and violence happening within just a few miles of our campuses over the past few years, it feels almost silly not to create extra protection. The statistics of school shootings and how many students feel unsafe at school prove just how important this new implementation would be. Not only would implementing this precaution help students and faculty feel safer, but it may also be the reason that our families don’t have to live without us. As bleak as it sounds, these situations happen much more often than one might think. We must act.
Our team wanted to create an outline to make our proposal come true. If considered, we will complete the following:
Gather research from past articles containing gun violence (Quotes from survivors and family members of those who have passed due to gun violence)
Interview the Chief of Police at Tarrant County College and discuss our proposal
Gather statistics (How many were killed in Texas in the past year due to gun violence, and how many were hospitalized?)
Based on our data, we will conduct a final proposal and plan.
Here are additional details of our plan and our tasks:
1. Gather research from past articles containing gun violence (Quotes from survivors and family members of those who have passed due to gun violence)
Our team has been watching the latest news videos of survivors, victims, and their family members speaking on these situations, and we believe our plan would have saved their lives. Because we can't do anything about the past, let us change the future.
2. Interview the Chief of Police at Tarrant County College and discuss our proposal
We believe that discussing our intentions with the Tarrant County Police will help us get an inside view of the crime rates at these campuses.
3. Gather statistics (How many were killed in Texas in the past year due to gun violence, and how many were hospitalized?)
We have already begun researching statistics on this topic and have realized that this implementation is even more necessary than we originally thought. We found that there have been at least 16 school shootings in the United States so far this year, as of March 6. Three were on college campuses, and 13 were on K-12 school grounds. The incidents left nine people dead and at least 23 others injured. This is absurd. Children and young adults are being deeply affected just for attempting to attain an education. Being safe at school is a basic human right. It is unfair that our students are forced to be in a place that has proven to be unsafe because it is the only way to get a degree.
4. Based on our data, we will conduct a final proposal and plan.
Using our proven statistics and collected data, we will create a final proposal with all the details finalized.
Experience: Our experience has been eye opening; we have discovered that this issue is a lot bigger than we anticipated. We want more than anything to convince you to help us make this offer a reality.

How to Apply for a Job with No Relevant Experience
Step 1:  First, you must create a resume including the following:
-All work experience (including the months and or years you were employed with each company)
- Include a summary of your skills and responsibilities from each job before listing the next job
- Education and year of start and completion (include major and degree if available)
-Hobbies and Interests are optional
-Languages and achievements are also optional
-Any other skills you may have
-Add a personal summary, explaining who you are and some of your qualities which would make you a strong candidate
-Lastly, add your contact information (email, phone number, etc.)
Step 2: Navigate to the application and follow the application steps. Already having a resume will make this step easier. These steps may include adding references or adding a cover letter. A cover letter is a way to stand out, especially if you put a lot of thought into your message. If this is your first job, it is okay to list references such as a former teacher or coach.
Step 3: After the main application process, if it is possible to reach out to the employer or hiring manager, it may help you stand out as a candidate. You may find the company's email address online or during the application process. Sending a message stating that you are looking forward to hearing back from them and offering to give any other information they may need can also help you stand out from other applicants.
Step 4: Apply for multiple jobs to receive better odds. Also, it is important to start practicing interview questions because it is likely you will be invited to an interview. Look up common interview questions and browse over your resume and make sure you are ready to explain any part of it.
Common interview questions-
Tell me about yourself.
Why should we hire you?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Interview questions that may stump you-
Tell me about a time you had a disagreement with a co-worker/customer and how you handled it.
Tell me about any experience you have related to this position?
What is your biggest weakness?
Step 5: Now, you have made it to the interview process, depending on the job opportunity, dress to impress with a business casual look. (look online if unsure due to specific jobs, almost always better to dress business casual) Remember the first impression is made withing the first few seconds of meeting! Do not look messy and make sure you are ready to answer questions and situational questions about your former work experience, school experience, or really anything else. Make sure you appear comfortable and confident.
Step 6: Lastly, wait and hope; good luck in your application process!
