RULES AND GUIDELINES
Unleashed! is an anonymous drarry + rare pair fest that welcomes works in which (an) animal(s), i.e. a magical or non-magical pet or beast, or an animagus or a patronus, must play a significant role.
We will be accepting drarry as well as rare pair fan creations.
For the purpose of this fest, a rare pair is defined as any pair, triad or poly relationship, except the first ten on this list. (Yes, drarry is in the first ten but it is an exeption.)
Accepted works include fic, art, craft, and podfic.
Timeline:
Prompting opens: May 1st
Prompting closes: May 15th
Claiming starts: May 16th
Claiming closes: August 31st
Submissions due: September 1st
Posting begins: September 15th
Prompting
You may submit as many prompts as you like, using your name or anonymously. You do not have to create for the fest in order to post a prompt.
Please include any extra prompt details that you would love to see incorporated. If you wish, you can also include maximum rating and any dislikes. Please note that these are for inspiration only and creators are not obligated to adhere to them fully.
We allow self-prompting. You can submit your desired prompt and then take your chance claiming it, or you can fill in the special box for self-prompts once claiming opens.
Prompts will be available for browsing once prompting opens.
Claiming
This is an 18+ fest. Please do not sign up if you are under 18 at the time of claiming (May 16th 2024).
You can only claim one prompt at a time. If you finish your prompt, you may claim an additional prompt. If you have finished your first prompt, and wish to claim another, please submit your first work as per submission guidelines before submitting another claim form. Claims will be awarded on a first come first served basis.
Collaborations are welcome. Please only submit one claim form per collaboration and include the details of all participants.
If you wish to create based on an existing fanwork, please submit it as a self prompt. We will only allow art, craft, or podfic for existing works with the original creator’s permission. We would expect written consent or a blanket permission statement from the original creator as proof. You can browse blanket permission statements of creators here.
Creating
This is an anonymous fest, so please keep the details of your creations to yourself. Please do not discuss your creations with anyone except for your beta readers and the fest mods until the reveals have been announced.
All creations must feature an animal as a prominent part of the work. This includes magical and non-magical pets and beasts, and an animagus or patronus.
For fics there is a minimum word count of 1000 words, no maximum. For podfics the recorded story should be a minimum of 1000 words, no maximum.
AI generated works of any format are not permitted in this fest.
All fics must be proofread. Podfics should be proofed before submitting. If you are unable to find a beta, please reach out to the mods.
Submissions must be complete works created for this fest. Please do not submit incomplete works or works that are a part of a series or a prequel/sequel to an existing work.
We encourage you to be inspired by the prompts’ additional details, but it is not a requirement to incorporate them into your creation. You are not required to abide by any mentioned dislikes. However, if you plan to gift your creation to the prompter, we may disallow this if you ignore stated dislikes.

Due date September 1st
All works must be posted directly to the AO3 collection: Unleashed! Fest 2024. If you don’t have an AO3 account, please contact the mods in advance.
You are required to add unleashed_mods as a co-creator when uploading your work. This is so that we can change the posting date, check the submission, and add a tag for unleashed fest 2024 and an endnote. We will not make any other changes to your work without your permission, and we will remove the mod account immediately after the reveals.
Major archive warnings and other seriously triggering and harmful content must be tagged. Here is a very helpful list of warning tags. Given the theme of the fest, be especially mindful of tagging themes like animal abuse and cruelty, pet/animal death, bestiality, pet play, etc. The mods will proof all submissions and inform you if there are any additional requirements for the duration of the fest.

Submissions for existing works should be linked to the original work using the AO3 function: “This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work” and pasting the URL of the original work.

Draco Malfoy always ends up getting bullied by other animals while in his Animagus form. Harry must rescue him again. Or must he?
I'm very late to claiming my fic for the @unleashed-fest 😅 but I've just recently become active on Tumblr so here it is.
The unleashed fest inspired me to write my first ever (completed) fan-fic! I am ever so grateful to the lovely mods @getawayfox and @stavromulabetaaa for hosting this lovely fest. I had so much fun writing for it. It basically kickstarted my fanfic journey as a writer 😄

Drarry (endgame), with minor (but porny) Bill/Draco/Harry
When Harry and Draco move into Grimmauld Place straight out of Hogwarts, the last person they expect to find taking up residence is Bill ‘divorced, dishevelled, and dangerous’ Weasley. But what if their new, furry little problem is the help they need to finally bring them closer? Stranger things have happened, Draco supposes.
“Today,” he whispers to Harry across the pillows, who croaks his agreement, rubbing at his crusty eyes. “We'll tell him today.”
He creeps out of the room like that, unsure how he got there in the first place. Perhaps it’s just an old habit from Hogwarts; he can’t count the number of times they accidentally fell asleep in each other’s beds this past school year.
The hallway is cold and dim, seven a.m. sunshine peeping in from the stained glass windows in the hallway downstairs.
A shadow appears, obscuring the view.
Draco’s nose is suddenly full of earth and sweat and Firewhisky, and—
Today, he thinks helplessly, staring up at Bill, who has just appeared from the other side of the hallway—the bathroom, presumably—bare-chested and loose haired and very, very pale. Exhausted-looking. Sickly. The post-moon shakes, Draco thinks wildly, trying to cast his mind back to the textbook passages Snape made them all study so closely.
Today. Now. I could tell him now. Tell him he has to—
—the floorboards creak as Bill comes closer. He bends his head, his nose twitching, a loose strand of bright-red hair brushing Draco’s face as he—
Inhales.
Draco’s heart hammers against his chest. His hand finds the wall, clinging to it—as much as one can cling to a wall, anyway.
His skin prickles, heat rushing to the surface. He licks his lips, opens his mouth to say something, to say anything, perhaps to stop himself from liquifying and sliding right down the brocade wallpaper, but—
“You smell nice,” Bill mutters, bewilderingly. His nose twitches again. A short, soft sort of growling sound comes crawling up from the back of his throat, vibrating somewhere behind his teeth. Draco shivers. “Both of you,” Bill adds quietly, and then he turns back down the stairs and disappears through the partition doors.

Hogwarts Fourth Year: While Ron is grateful for Pigwidgeon, he sometimes finds himself wistfully remembering the times he spent with 'Scabbers' -- before the reveal in Third Year, anyway. One such night, he's startled and wary to find a rat scampering around, until Viktor appears, looking for his escaped pet. They eventually bond over pets, grief, comfort, Quidditch, and many other things as they start to develop feelings for each other.

“See?” Harry whispered into Orkie’s head. “Lovely.”

Friends, my first ever anon fest fic has just been revealed, and I am beyond myself with happiness that this tiny little story that is purely a chunk of my heart is just, out here for you all to see! I know I often claim 'this is the softest thing I've ever written' but this, this, truly is. It's sad and so filled with longing: it's joyful, and bright, and full of magic.
It's got a comfortable, confident trans man Harry in the loveliest magical house you can imagine, it's got a Draco so in love with him he's absolutely raging, it's got fluffy animals and adorable children and so, so much tea, and if that's not enough, hot chocolate. Pals, it's the cottage-coriest thing ever and everyone's heart gets broken at least once. It's, as always, about healing, and about love.
I had so much fun writing it, and cannot thank my lovely friends enough: @basicallyahedgehog, @samyistrying, @toxik-angel - for lending me your ear and your heart and giving your time and your thoughts. @stavromulabetaaa, @getawayfox - this fest was so brilliant, and honestly, truthfully, without it, this story wouldn't exist - I would never have found this little bit of myself. Thank you, most profoundly.
Snippet:
From the open window, the smell was strong of lavender, of orange blossom, of thyme and of basil and wild garlic. The house had an enormous garden, with gnarly trees, with weeds and wildflowers in blues and pinks and whites and. Draco, with some difficulty, looked away. For the house was now clear, was close, and in the door, ajar, stood—him.
His hair was longer. A streak of white in the black of his curls, tucked artlessly behind an ear. He’d grown wider, but only just, strong shoulders and thick thighs. A beard, trimmed neatly, framed his jaw in a truly unfair display. His skin was dark under his white shirt: he was, all at once, too much to bear. Draco closed his eyes and begged himself to cease. This foolishness had no place between them, ever since the—well. Ever since.
“Draco,” with a smile in his voice, the absolute fucker. Potter was coming closer, was lovely, here in this place that so suited him, in the joy etched in every line of his face. Draco’s belly reacted to it, squirming, cross.
“Potter,” with what he hoped was a professional tone. What was probably a pathetic whimper. “What—” stumbled coming out of the car, which parked itself under the overgrown apple tree, was caught at the elbow by a very warm hand. Un-clutched himself from the clutches. Tried glaring. Failed.
“What a surprise,” he managed in the end, half-choked. “Who would have guessed it was you requiring my services.”

Fellow animal lovers, we're brining you the anonymous masterlist of all the furry/scaly/feathery creations our fest has to offer!
And what a list! We have a whole pride of peacocks 🦚, a basilisk, a couple of dogs 🐕, a school of fish 🐠, a hedgehog 🦔, a whole pile of cats and kittens 🐈, a few nifflers and a crow, cute foxes 🦊 and a toad 🐸, a whole den of snakes 🐍, two ferrets and a lovely demiguise, a mouse 🐭 and a werewolf 🐺, a whole heap of farm animals, a rogue seagull, highland cattle 🐮 and a herd of hippogriffs. Phew! 😅

Barn chores and animal butts certainly weren't going to do it.

After the war, Draco Malfoy decides to turn over a new leaf and in doing so, opens an animal sanctuary for sick and homeless magical creatures. Everything is going well, until he is given a feral herd of hippogriffs and has to ask for outside help to be able to get anywhere near them.
