it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

we need to separate chihiro from just third wheel to ishi/mondo (bad) or "cis guy third addition to ishi/mondo" (worse) and let her just exist. they're a genderqueer transfeminine computer programmer who cries when she's stressed and is so kind she let a mosquito bite them and didn't slap it away because she found it cruel to kill a creature who was only doing what it needed to survive. they are so wildly intelligent and capable and yet is so entrenched in their own self loathing over her physical strength that she rarely speaks up for themself during discussion, and only after their death, when their "idealized self" is revealed in the form of an ai (claimed to be chihiro's "perfect" version) it speaks confidently and plainly, almost in a way chihiro wishes she could've carried herself while they were alive. and yet, she's so incredibly brave and caring and her death left a stain on the entire ecosystem of the school afterwards. chihiro fujisaki you are so important always.
