specters-knight:

Specter Knight looked down on the exhausted knight from a perch high above. She looked like she came with a purpose, so why not indulge her?
Tumblr media
He warped down, slamming his scythe into the ground. “Shield Knight, what a surprise. To what do I owe the occasion?”
She waiting a moment before responding until she felt she could speak without panting every other word.
“Hi, I’ve... Come to return something I believe is yours?” She took her helmet off, letting her long, orange-brown hair fall loosely down. She reached a hand into her helmet, and produced a small, blue locket.
Tumblr media
“Shovel knight says he got this in the lich yard, but I swear I remember seeing you with it? Maybe something the Enchantress saw but I remember?”

Loud thumping was heard in the lich yard as Shield knight came thundering through, glancing around herself every so often. eventually she ran out of energy, slowing down to a halt, and bending over to catch her breath.
Tumblr media
“S.... Spectre knight... You here?”

summonthyscythe:
His companion gave him two pats on the back as he passed by, taking in the sights himself as well. It was a very finely furnished home, with exquisite decor. A single vase or painting alone would likely make the trip worthwhile, but they could take as much as they could carry.
“You did well to find it and get us in,” Donovan congratulated. “What say we find the master bedroom, eh? I’m sure the wife has a nice jewelry box somewhere.”
He couldn't help but smile sheepishly at the congratulatory phrase from his partner. At the mention of a jewelry box though, Luan idly put a hand up. “That won’t be necessary.”
Luan walked further in and stopped at the staircase, popping off the bottom step and producing a small grey metal box. “Lily- the wife- was worried people would sneak into her bedroom to steal her jewellery box. So she asked her husband, Horatio, to hide it in a better spot.”
He snickered, and held the box behind him for Donovan to take as he replaced the bottom step. “Not really a ‘better spot’ if you yap about how clever it is constantly.”

“Yes,” Donovan called back down in a loud whisper, slightly strained from the effort of pulling himself up and over the railing, and doing so quietly, at that. Once he was on his feet, he looked down to his companion.
“I’ll unlock the door down there,” he informed him, then turned and let himself inside the estate. He moved quickly but cautiously, not yet touching anything and hardly making a sound. It didn’t take much wandering to find the stairs, and it took even less to find the back door and unlock it. He held it open and stepped aside, beckoning Luan to enter.
Luan strode in, nodding at Donovan as he passed by and stopping about 2 meters in, placing his hand son his hips and looking around the inside of the mansion.
“...Well, I knew there are rich nobles living here, but I didn’t expect... this..!” The thief was awestruck as he looked at all the valuables and riches, completely unguarded and practically in their wallets already. “...Donovan, this is the jackpot.”

“Almost,” the phantom reminded him, not wishing to see his friend upset. “You’re still here, as am I. At the very least, he’s in much better hands than we were.”
“… You are right that he may not need looking after much longer, however,” he mused, his tone growing more somber.
The former thief brought his hand back up, lacing his fingers together idly. “We’re both a little worse for wear, yes, but we’re still here.” He sighed, letting his arms droop down loosely to his sides again.
“...Well, 16 still isn’t that old, Despite the fact i was independent at a much younger age. He grew up relying on people, not only himself.”

“Got it.” The leaner of the two followed, then took a moment to judge the jump before making it. He got into position for his accomplice to hoist him up.
“On my ‘three.’ One… two… three!”
On Donovan’s signal, Luan threw his hands up, giving the other thief enough air to hopefully grab the edge of the balcony, and getting ready to catch him in-case he fell.
“Got the ledge?”

”Black Butt! Are you guarding my tower?” ((Idk x3))
“....What???”
Black knight was just confused at the statement. He looked around the entrance of the tower of fate, failing to notice anybody else.
“....I don’t see anybody by the uh... unfortunate name of ‘black butt’ here...”

The latter thief raised a brow at that information, the beginnings of a smirk forming behind his cowl.
“Months, huh?” He elbowed his companion in the upper arm. “Hear anything interesting? Heh heh…”
It was a lewd joke, but it was too easy to make. He guessed it would likely go right over Luan’s head anyway, though he had been wrong before…
Luan tilted his head at Donovan, seeming confused. “...huh?” He thougth for a bit, then shrugged, getting up and peering over the underbrush again.
“...They’re leaving. I’ll boost you up.” Luan climbed over the bushes, nearly tripping as he made his way to the underneath of the balcony. He looked directly up at it, adjusting his position, then crouched down, lacing his fingers together and making a step for Donovan.
“Ready when you are. Try not to knock down any of the flowers, the pollen makes me sneeze.”

I’ve got this Headcanon that Luan kinda refuses to accept that Donovan would betray him and has convinced himself his death was an accident because he’s been betrayed/abandoned so much he doesn’t want to think about somebody he considers family doing something like that to him

summonthyscythe:
A quiet chuckle left the undead knight at the memory.
“I remember.” He nodded. “It was ages ago, but it hardly feels like it.” He sighed a long, whispery sigh, shaking his head. It was too often he realized how time seemed to escape him.
“He’s grown so much since then…”
Luan brought a hand up and clutched his scarf, letting out a sigh as he smiled. “He used to be so small, but now he’s nearly all grown-up! He won’t need me anymore eventually.”
Luan’s eyes shifted down, and his hand from his scarf to over his abdomen. His tone became low and melancholic, and quiet again, as his face was overcome with an upset expression. “...I almost wasn’t going to be there for him again...”

summonthyscythe:
“Of course,” answered the knight, some relief audible in his tone. “I come and go as I please.” He looked out over the Lich Yard stretched out around them. It had almost become like a home of sorts. There was an odd sense of belonging attached to it that he hadn’t felt toward any particular place until recently. Faint as it was, it was foreign. His ties had always been to people before, not places.
“It’s not so bad here. I’ve nowhere else to go in the long term, anyway.”
Luan scoffed, muttering ‘well if you have free will why not get a change of clothes that ACTUALLY suits you.’ just quiet enough that Spectre wouldn’t hear it. Luan looked around the lich yard, remembering all the things that happened in the former village.
“...Do you remember that time Reize found a frog? He was so excited to show it to us, but he tripped as he was coming over and the frog hopped out of his hands and onto my face.”

“See any windows we can squeeze through if they lock the door?” Donovan asked in a whisper, trying to figure a way to get in. He was crouched down among the underbrush as well, and didn’t have as clear a line of sight on the estate as Luan did in his position. He’d found he had a much easier time getting past shut windows than locked doors. Not to mention, front doors were usually in plain sight, whereas windows on a building could be anywhere.
“I’ve already got a better idea for how to enter.” Luan tapped Donovan’s shoulder, pointing up to a large balcony, decorated with floral arrangements. “There’s no lock on the door up there, and I can more than definitely toss you up. From the conversations I’ve overheard from them, they keep spare keys in their bedroom- We’ll be able to unlock any door we need.”
Luan turned around, sitting down with his back to the brush and cocked his head to the side, then stretched out his arms. “I’ve spent months just listening in on the couple living here just to find the optimal time to raid it.” Luan turned his head to look at Donovan, placing his palms on the ground next to each of his sides.

“It suits me,” was the phantom’s response to that comment. “Not that I have much choice in the matter…” He lowered himself to stand on the ground, even with Luan. He lowered his weapon, setting the blunt end of it down but keeping it in hand.
“Much of my time is spent here, yes, but I keep a watchful eye on other things as well,” he stated somewhat vaguely. “What of you? Keeping busy?”
Luan grumbled as the other landed on the ground. He wasn’t used to having to look up to see Spectre knight, he was used to looking down.
“I’ve been busy, yes. You would think working for somebody like Plague knight would be chaotic and horrible, but it’s actually quite nice. I mostly just haul heavy boxes and parts.” He folded his arms, bringing his head back upright, so it was no longer tilted.
“With the Enchantress gone, though, isn’t your free will returned?
