‘show me the only way you know how to love’ is crazy because these are louis’ own subconscious thoughts about himself voiced by dreamstat. louis thinks the only way he knows how to love is by harming, by killing, and in the context of him seemingly regretting never telling lestat he loved him, it’s like he’s telling himself that killing lestat was his confession of love, which is CRAZY because in a way it’s true. louis has never showed more love for lestat than when he cut his throat and held him in his arms as he died, crying and screaming and devastated. louis remembers lestat’s love for him as pain and addiction and obsession and that’s what he’s been telling daniel throughout the interview, but this is him thinking his own love for lestat manifested in the same way. this is his own subconscious telling him, no, screaming at him that he and lestat are perhaps more similar than he’s willing to let himself believe. and oh how he hates that. because louis is constantly questioning his own morality, trying to hang onto his idea of goodness, terrified of his own monstrous nature, and here is lestat, a lestat that louis’ own mind conjured up, haunting him and telling him ‘I was wretched and I made you miserable but you loved me and when you killed me, that was the highest manifestation of your love for me, you can’t escape me, you can’t kill me because killing me only means loving me, aching for me, longing for me still and you will never feel whole again as long as you’re apart from me’.

I had taken seven thousand souls by then. But Lestat was the only one that felt like murder.
