Richie hummed a response, unmoving. “Help me up, let’s go somewhere.” He didn’t know how to handle the rush of hope, everything had been such a god damn roller coaster, this could literally just mean “Help me up so we can go get some toothpaste,” or “Let’s go get some food I’m starving. (Or, “Help me up so we can go on a walk and make out.” Who could say?)  Richie rose with a sigh and grabbed the hand Eddie was lazily reaching out towards him, yanking him to his feet.

He stared at the road to their right. His tunnel vision had kept him from realizing where they were, but now he stared down the winding path terrified of it, a snake about to bite him. “Eddie…” he murmured. “Drive.” Eddie leaned forward in his seat, trying to get a glimpse past the trees. “Please.” Before he could decide against it, Richie jerked the accelerator. The road narrowed the further they drove, but Richie knew it would open up soon. Beside him, Eddie was fidgeting in his seat, his hands still on the dashboard. He swerved to avoid a permanent dip in the dirt, he had learned that lesson when it had fucked up his tire a few years back. They crept down the road until Richie found the two makeshift parking spots off to the left. Just beyond them the forest opened up on a wide rock cliff, beyond that nothing but a steep drop into deep water. The car wasn’t even in park before Eddie was throwing the door open and sprinting towards the edge.
