The story of having 🐈 from a breeder in 🌷Holland🌷

HIME around 1 month old

HIME: 😾. These days, I really don't like it when it suddenly snows just when I think spring has arrived. 🌸⛄

TONO: 😸. Well, it's the change of season. We're in a northern country. I'm glad at least we're on summertime and can spend more time in the sun. 🌞.

HIME: 🐱. Oh yes, and continuing with the story about how mum chose us.

TONO: 🙀 Apparently there was a type of cat that Mum wanted to keep that was not allowed to be bred in the Netherlands.

HIME: 😿 That, I know. It was the kind of cat that was genetically and medically difficult for cats to survive, but people kept breeding them because they were cute. I heard that in many countries they are still breeding them.

TONO: 😾. It's hoomans who have been doing whatever it takes to make money. Mum didn't know anything about it and she was wondering why she couldn't find it. And she did a lot of research. That's when she finally realised. So she started looking for British Shorthairs only.

HIME: 🐱. Speaking of that, I heard that my mum said that beautiful long-haired cats are nice to look at, but she gave up on them as she felt sorry for them too, as she thought they would make a lot of hairballs because she was too lazy to look after them.

TONO: 🐱. Also, 💻 dad works from home, so he couldn't have an overly active kitten either. The other thing was the distance from my house to the breeder. 🚙 In the end mum made a few contacts and came to see us too. I heard that as soon as she saw us, she was absolutely heartbroken. 💘 That's what immediate decision 🌟.

HIME: 😸. I heard that after that, mum worked frantically to build us a cat room. 🏠

TONO: 😸 It's definitely bigger than mum's room. But we always sleep in Mum's room. 💤

Tell us, TONO & HIME❣ how to welcome a cat in the Netherlands❓

TONO: 😾. 　The day my mum came to my birthplace... actually, I don't remember. 💦

HIME: 🐱 　I don't remember it either. We were only a month old. 👶

TONO: 　Okay, in case you're wondering, I'll explain how people in the Netherlands find their cats.

HIME:😻 　The most popular pet seems to be the 🐈. I heard that there is a tax to keep a 🐶. The others are to avoid 🐀. Of course, there are a lot of people who have always been cat lovers, which is great for us.

TONO: 😺. 　In the Netherlands there are no pet shops where animals can be bought and sold, it's going to be legal in 2020 and other EU countries will gradually follow suit. France, for example, will have no show-window pets by 2024.

HIME: 🤔. 　I guess so. It will be hard for shop owners, but we are for it. I can't imagine spending long hours in a small case every day. So how did your mum find us?

TONO: 😺. 　First of all, you have to find them from an animal shelter. But they were wild, so it's hard to keep them locked up in the house. My mum used to have an Abyssinian, Jean, who had a sad experience of going to heaven early because he got sick when he was outside. Mum's mother was a free spirit and she couldn't seem to do anything about it. So she decided that next time she gets a cat in the family, she won't let them out freely, and she gave up on the shelter kitty.

HIME:😻 　So mum found us on a kitten introduction website where breeders are registered. But why us?

TONO: 😪. I remember that point from listening to my mum and mum of my birth family talking about it, so I'll tell you next time. I'm a bit tired, I'm going to sleep. 💤

I'm TONO, a male British Shorthair. I was born in Amsterdam. I have four siblings and I was the only boy. At first people thought I was a naughty boy, but in fact I'm a calm and sweet boy. 😻

Hime: I'm HIME, a female British Shorthair. I'm the only one born with silver fur. I was treated pretty special in my birth family. That doesn't mean I'm posh. I just don't like to be pampered. I'm normal among cats, not special.😾😸
