A few days ago I realized that Hanako’s date of death was 9 years before the first Mario game came out and I almost cried

Hi! So, I started following you a few weeks ago, as I found your art super interesting. Now, I wanted to ask about Nene's Inferno AU story. Like, how did she get to meet Hanako and all that (I dunno if you've been asked this before, so sorry if you did).
I love your art!❤❤
Ah! Hello and welcome to my corner of tumblr! This little comic I made gives you some details. It’s just a very loose intro though. But please accept this (VERY ROUGH) idea of how their meeting came to be:
Novice angel Nene is infatuated with the archangel Teru. She plans to garner his admiration by overcoming the trials of hell and earning her angel wings. She leaves Heaven and makes it to the edge of purgatory, currently being guarded by her friend (and fellow angel in training) Kou! After a lot of pleading and begging and Kou being unable to refuse her, with GREAT misgivings, he allows her to enter Hell.
Now in Hell’s outermost ring, Nene is careful to avoid any potential scuffles with lesser demons. A rather large one gave her a fright and she ran for dear life. She eventually happens upon several mokke imps coming in and out of a MASSIVE thorny hedge maze. Thoroughly lost and more than a bit spooked at this point, She risks talking to one. She asks an imp how she should navigate through Hell. It points with its ear toward the maze entrance and answers cryptically with “Follow the flower.” It runs off into the maze with no further explanation. She hesitates but decides to follow after it. After hours of searching she stumbles upon a salacious oasis 😃. Nene quickly scrambles away from the scandalous sight of demons bathing, but quickly gets caught by a scantily clad Hanako.
Poor Nene is frozen with shock and fear while the strange demon violates her personal space. He taunts her, revealing that hiding from him was impossible with her sweet smell. As he intrusively inspects her he asks what brings an angel to HIS circle of Hell. Nene then realizes he might be one of the 7 demon lords. Hanako casually confirms this and introduces himself as the Lord of Lust. Nene panics. She frantically recites a spell to bind Hanako to her will but forgets the warning from her training: Do to not attempt this on higher level demons. It easily gets rebounded back at her and a small but heavy gold band forms around her ring finger.
And so~ that’s how a novice angel wound up bonded to the Prince of Lechery 🙏

Do you think that was Hanako's plan from the start?
Separation?
Ooh thank you for my first ask, Hania-chan! 💕
Okay I have been mulling it over since chapter 71 has come out and I’ve gone between theories a lot, but I think this was always Hanako’s intention to separate the 2 shores! Before, it was always a big mystery on why Hanako was destroying the yorishiros and why he was so sure god would forgive him.
But now I think the answer has finally been given now!
Tumblr media
Okay so we’ve always known the 7 mysteries’ job was to keep the balance between the 2 shores— to protect the students while simultaneously scaring them to keep the rumours alive. They are not supposed to actually harm anyone though, and that’s why Yako lost her seat as No. 2.
Tumblr media
Then during the current arc, we see this meeting between the mysteries and once again it’s explained that their job is to keep the balance between the shores. Question is: what exactly are they keeping the balance for?
My theory is: the 7 mysteries exist so that no more sacrifices are performed.
Tumblr media
^^Hanako says it here basically, because a kannagi was sacrificed the 2 shores are to be separated. This was why Sumire and many other Akane girls were sacrificed over the years to the far shore, to stop apparitions from crossing the boarders and causing havoc. And it can be assumed that 7 mysteries took over that role at some point, because...
Tumblr media
No. 6 is basically considered a last resort in restoring the balance, because he has “extreme” methods. But this was before Hanako started destroying all the yorishiros, making it so there weren’t enough mysteries to keep the balance and a sacrifice was once again needed to put things right
And this is where I can answer your question Hania-chan: Hanako has indeed been planning all this from the start!
All he needed was a kannagi to set things into motion...
Tumblr media
Hanako acquires his kannagi through Nene (whether he tricks her or not is up for debate), and slowly uses her to destroy the yorishiros of the 7 mysteries under the guise that there’s is a “traitor.” Is there really a traitor? Apart from Hanako’s shady antics I can’t really say.
If the 7 mysteries are unable to protect the school and keep the balance, then Hanako knows that the last resort is sacrificing a kannagi. That’s why he was counting on no. 6. And it begs the question... was Nene truly the intended sacrifice of the urabon? Was she meant to fall into the far shore and cause the supernatural world to be separated?
I think so.
But then Hanako grew attached to Nene— fell in love with her. And suddenly he had to find another sacrifice because he couldn’t stand the idea of Nene dying. We all thought Aoi being sacrificed was a coincidence that Hanako took advantage of... but maybe that’s what he intended.
Tumblr media
Aoi died in Nene’s stead. A kannagi was sacrificed and thus the 2 shores shall be separated, just as Hanako very likely wanted from the start.
Tumblr media
He liked Nene better than Aoi anyway...
Tumblr media
^^this is not the face of someone who had no idea what was going on. Hanako knew exactly what was going to happen and was even accepting of it— like this was what he wanted to happen
Everything Hanako did was for the sake of keeping the balance and keeping the humans of the near shore safe. And that’s why he says god will forgive him for what he’s doing
I’m sorry I’ve diverted so much Hania-chan! 😰 But the short answer is basically: yes, I think Hanako intended for the 2 shores to be separated since the very beginning of the story.

A HanaNene Analysis: Hanako’s True Wish
I wrote something similar once before, but I would like to retouch upon it after Ch.71!
So, one of the first things we learn about Hanako is his love for the moon—
Tumblr media
He loves it so much that it’s his dream to someday go there—that the moon is so big and beautiful—he’s convinced it has to be a great place...
Because it’s clear from Hanako’s wounds, Earth *isn’t* a great place...
Tumblr media
But then, strangely enough, Hanako decides to give Tsuchigomori his precious Lunar Rock—because it makes Hanako feel like he can go anywhere—including the moon—and for some reason, he ultimately decides he’s not going anywhere ;~;
Not even to the moon...
Note: this takes place on Tuesday, July 22nd, 1969.
Tumblr media
Now the first time Nene time travels, she gets to actually meet Hanako’s past self—Amane—not realizing its *not* the Hanako she knows. And he’s hiding behind a curtain, books ripped up, and bleeding ;; so Nene is quick to fret ;;
Tumblr media
Hanako becomes shy, and runs off (heart racing because he was attracted to Nene’s ankles ;;) leaving Nene with his mysterious key.
Note: this takes place on Friday, July 18th, 1969.
So from the span of Friday to Tuesday, Hanako decides he’s not going anywhere—to give up on his dream of going to the moon...sometime after meeting Nene...
Tumblr media
Now the next time Nene time travels, it’s back when Hanako is around 8 years old. And he develops a crush on her—
Tumblr media
And decides to give Nene his wish slip whilst revealing what he planned to write on the slip—to be an astronaut, and see the moon up close.
Tumblr media
But then we find out that, once again, Hanako changed his wish of going to the moon—he wishes to meet Nene again ;;
Note: the date is July 7th, 1964.
Tumblr media
Now Hanako has one more chance to go to the moon—to make his wish come true—but he doesn’t. He only stares at Nene—because she is more beautiful and bright—she outshines the moon itself in his eyes ;;
Tumblr media
And Hanako, verbally states that his wish of going to the moon will never be granted—but he’s fine with that—so long as he can grant Nene’s wish of living ;;
Because Nene is his wish.
But that’s only half of it.
Tumblr media
So while Hanako desperately wants Nene to live—Hanako reveals his true selfish wish—the very wish from his heart and it’s not to go to the moon—the moon is long forgotten.
His true wish, the very wish in his heart of hearts—
“I wanted to try living with you too, Yashiro.”
He doesn’t want to go to the moon.
He wants to be with Nene, always—even to the point where he wants to be alive with her ;o;;
And each time Hanako wishes to go to the moon—Nene appears in his life and changes it—changes his wish.
Because, through the Near and Far Shores, he is always meant to fall in love with her~
