everyone’s seen short-haired Piper (whose design i love infinitely more) but these other ideas are also cute
…is that a fucking harpoon gun. also almost all of these have her with a camera WHERE was my photography in game?
i like all the different hat/goggles/gas mask ideas.
transcript: as a young girl, Piper finds an abandoned printing press and begins piecing together pre-war history from old newspapers. she becomes enamored w the idea of being a gumshoe journalist to bring back news from(?) the wasteland
do you know where "no beta we die like x" comes from and how it is used?
The term "beta" in this context is short for "beta reader" - a person who reads a fic while it's still in the editing stage and helps the writer get it ready to post. Some betas check grammar. Some check canon compliance. Some are sensitivity readers. There are lots of things that betas can do.
So functionally, saying "no beta" means that the writer didn't get this checked by a second person before they posted it. It's a warning that there might be errors or typos etc. It's mostly used when an author has written something quickly and is posting without doing a lot of (or any) edits first.
As for where it comes from? It all started with a bumper sticker.
This image was an internet meme at one point, and it got meme'd on in the form of "no ___ we ___ like men"
Here on tumblr, one of the versions that got really popular was from now-deleted user @grec1a who created this version:
From there, it migrated to AO3 as the "no beta we die like men" tag, and very often the word men is replaced by the name of a character who dies in canon.
Apparently people who don't have executive dysfunction think that actually working on something is the hardest part of doing something. And that's why they get mad that you call the rest of the project "easy" after you've finally worked through doing the plan and know what to do when you're working.
So when you're through with the epiphany of how to make it physically possible to make the thing you're making, and you're sharing the plan with excitement, because the hard part is over, and now you only have to get your hands moving and do it, they get mad at you like
"it's not that easy! It's a lot of hard work! >:C"
they mean it, because
to them, working is the hardest part.
They don't have to fight their brains to get started. They don't have to fight their way through making the choices, making the plan, making yourself make the thing. People who don't suffer from executive dysfunction think that the hardest part is actually doing the thing.
“Jason is a hypocrite for attacking children” well yes, but also, devil’s advocate point: I don’t think he counts non civilian children under his “no kids” rule. Like his problem with Bruce is much less that he wasn’t protected as a child and much more that he wasn’t avenged as a son. It’s very Ancient Greek. But no if you’re dressing up kids in those little costumes and putting them on the frontlines they’re getting the smoke too :/. Also he’s like 19 during the utrh era Tim and Mia are lowkey his peers
Alright, friends. Here is Mako in comparison to Lin in Book 3. By word of Bryke, he is 6 ‘2’ at this point.
The top of Lin’s head ends up near his eyebrows.
Here is Mako in comparison to Lin in book 4; three years later.
The top of her head ends up somewhere just below Mako’s eyes.
The space between the base of the eyes and the top of the eyebrows is usually around 1.5 inches (if anything, it’s more in Mako’s case, but I’ll go with a low-ball estimate anyway). This would make him about 6 ‘3’.5 in book 4.
So, relating this to Asami:
The top of her head comes up to the middle of his little hair poof, which is, at the most, 2 inches from the very tip of his head.
6 ‘3’.5 - 2in = 6 ‘1’. 5
Conclusion #1: Asami Sato is almost 6 ‘2’
Conclusion #2: Sato genetics don’t mess around
UPDATE:
Here are Asami’s shoes in that scene:
They don’t appear to be high-heels; they’re most likely low or non-heeled ankle boots.
remember when Asami turned her back on everything she knew and loved in an instant because she wanted to do what was right?
remember when she chose compassion over revenge and stopped herself from ending the life of her father, whom moments earlier had attempted to murder her?
remember when all that was left of her family, her company, was crumbling into the dust and she still put it aside to help save the world without being asked?
Remember when she created and executed the plan to fly a plane into enemy territory essentially on a suicide mission to give korra a chance at entering the spirit world?
remember when she let mako and bolin’s entire family stay in her personal home free of charge?
remember when she comforted korra when she was at her lowest and remained by her side until korra wanted to be alone in the southern water tribe? a choice she respected despite how much she wanted to stay and help her?
remember when she saw republic city struggling to adjust to the spirits and korra couldn’t help so she rebuilt and remodeled and entire city just so that people and spirits could live in harmony, giving people jobs, homes, and safety?
remember when she allowed Prince Wu to stay in her home because he needed somewhere safe?
remember when she confronted the man who ripped her heart in two and told him she forgave him?
remember when she refused to give up on the day of the colossus when Varrick insisted that there was nothing non-benders could do?
remember when she was willing to be crushed to death just so korra could even have a chance at infiltrating the colossus?
the one thing i want to be able to do as a writer is make people come back to something ive written. i want that piece of text to haunt them, i want their thoughts to be briefly consumed by this. i want this to be something they remember long after its time. thats the one thing i want to do
So, we're just not gonna talk about how the Avatar only exists in the first place because of Wan screwing up so bad he released the *embodiment of evil*?
Sorry, but no one is ever gonna top Mr First Avatar in the failure departement no matter how hard they try. And I know season 2 of LoK sucks, blah, blah, blah, doesn't change the fact that it's still cannon no matter how we feel about it.
Plus if you wanna sh*t on Korra for breaking the Avatar cycle you *have* to accept Beginnings as cannon otherwise that plotline wouldn't be possible to begin with.
