You can sooooo do something similar with Kyouko too, like: what are laws? Who's enforcing them? How do you prosecute a homicide case? In what ways can you justify yourself saying, "this murder is wrong and unjust"? This is theft, this is infidelity, this is laundering, this is defamation, how does one do this, given the state of the world?
Where did Byakuya's wealth go after DR1? Why does it feel like they just brush over this fact in DR3?
I thought the whole point of Byakuya surviving is that his wealth and the systems that generate and maintain it are taken away from him, so his family's material standing has no meaning in the destroyed world. Like do they really think that "being rich" is just a personality trait he carries around?
He can be disconnected from the lower-class or even a money-less life as a consistent characterization, but like I hate that they don't tackle what Byakuya should actually do to restore the Togami conglomerate.

There was a hypothermia togiri idea I described long ago... that would be considered hurt/comfort, would it not? But due to the nature of the characters it's less "I'm sad and worried about you," and more, "this is a fucking medical emergency, goddammit! YOU ARE GOING TO DIE, I don't need you talking smack right now!"

Kyouko's uniform is full of metallic accessories: abundance of silver zippers, studs on her gloves and buckles on her boots. On top of that, her jacket is leather. She has a very cold and uninviting fashion sense.

Kyouko has to probably choose whether or not she should find dirt on Togami (the conglomerate AND her classmate) that she can use as leverage over him someday but finds it more amusing if she doesn't investigate because it'll ironically piss Byakuya off for not caring enough about who he is.

#kirigiri #togami #its an interesting phenomenon
I'm gonna be honest and say it, it's very much just misogyny, like there's no mystery about it.
And this is not like, meant to denigrate anyone who do this, i.e. fans who catch themselves feeling more sympathetic to male characters more often than female characters -- as much as I can, I want to spell out that this is just how societal biases seep into our fandom activity.
It's how we are taught from birth, from the media we grew up surrounded in, that male characters are meant to be more relatable to us, more desirable to be -- whereas female characters are more like an attachment, an object, a goal. It's how we're subliminally taught that women's voices are less worth listening to. It's how decades of children's media made by male creators box "being a girl" into a whole personality trait.
It affects me too! As much time as I spend on exploring characters like Byakuya I could do the same to the likes of Aoi or Sakura; characters whose backgrounds build their current personality and neuroses, or ones who take drastic, unpopular decisions that complicates them.
No-one is free from internalizing or enacting misogyny, it's a problem that pervades all levels of society and ages, but it is imperative that we at least acknowledge it happens, that it affects how creators create and how audiences react and how fans interact. In understanding how misogyny operates through us, we hope we could work to a better future reducing its influence.
It's like... how does one understand that Kyouko is a complicated character who does objectionable things out of a questionable sense of morality and then spend the rest of the time solely talking about byakuya.

OH the drama gets far more delicious if Kyouko used Makoto as a line into noble affairs where Byakuya lives among, Makoto probably thinking that she was a fellow worker trying to uncover corruption. Byakuya is INCENSED that Makoto doesn't rebuke her as soon as he realizes. Kyouko starts being defensive for Makoto when she starts to acknowledge that Makoto doesn't deserve to feel guilty in this way, how despite his minimal role and how the invasion of his city was a complicated, long-running scheme from many different parties he couldn't have influenced, he still feels the full weight of causing destruction. Kyouko is partially fascinated by Makoto's simultaneous selfless and selfish thinking, so she sticks along and supports him even after the reveal her own betrayal.
Moon and Sun godlings Kyouko and Byakuya both taken in by mortal Makoto, only for them to lose their divinity the more the spend time outside of their domain, with Kyouko symbolically leaving the shadows and Byakuya descending from his class.
I think there's also a more realistic version of this AU, where it's just noble Byakuya leaving his gilded community within the city to occasionally meet a young worker who unknowingly is also friends with a secret spy group of a rival city.

The city / kingdom gets freakin' invaded and in the chaos Makoto has to reckon with Kyouko's involvement and his trust in her while Byakuya gets pulled along with them in a semi-hostage situation

The way I see tonaegiri is best described as friendship but I will disagree hard that they don't love each other immensely. They just show it in unconventional ways

This is really what characterizes tonaegiri to me it's not about compatibility or shared interests or whatever it's about loyalty and dedication despite their differences
Whodunnit mystery in a mansion (Togami's, of course) but one of tonaegiri did it and they bond over being their secretkeepers and run away at the end
