I started a new job a few weeks ago. I've been getting up at 5:30 in the morning and going to bed at or around 21:00 like some kind of responsible adult. I've been on time every day.
I'm working (mostly) in the office at a renovation and restoration company, which is very different from anything I've done before. The company is small-ish (but not as small as my first two jobs at mom-and-pop retail stores), my coworkers are nice, and the whole business is extremely laidback.
There are no metrics to speak of. I asked for $19.50/hr and got $22/hr instead. I spend a lot of my day browsing Google News and listening to Spotify (though I am trying to learn too!).
Is this some kind of working man's heaven?

I finally checked my college grades from the spring semester. I did better than I thought, though I did get a 'D' and an 'F.' Working full-time now and needing to retake those classes, it will take me a lot longer to finish. I'm estimating that spring of 2025 will be the finish line . . . of my associate degree. Then there's the bachelor's, and who knows how long that'll take . . .
But you know what? That's okay.
I'm making money and even getting chores done around the house for once. My life feels structured for the first time in a long time. Working in the city, I'm getting out more, seeing the sights . . .
So what if I won't get a degree for a while? I'm learning to take things at my pace. I own a house with a mortgage from the bottom of the interest rate dip. I've paid off my car. I've moved to a city and state that I like a lot more than where I'm from. I've got decent money in the bank. I may be lagging behind my peers in academics, but not many other millennials could say those things. I should consider myself lucky, and I do.
So fuck it. For the first time in a long while, I feel really—REALLY—good about things.
Anyway, it's just past 21:00, so bedtime for me. I don't even dread work tomorrow. Ain't that something?

Just a small update—I'm still around. I haven't left Tumblr. I've just been really busy, so I haven't been posting or even reblogging anything lately. I start a new job soon, I've been on the road a bit, and I've been binging a lot of anime and manga.
I've been having fun, really. I feel like my life is on a solid upward trajectory.
