Led Danganan Manila, Philippines Nikon D5200
After traveling all around Philippines, what are some places you'd recommend people to visit and why?
First-timers in the Philippines could go and visit the natural attractions of the island provinces of
1. Palawan for white beaches, karst formations, and scuba diving 2. Cebu for beaches, waterfalls, old churches, and  3. Surigao for beaches, waterfalls, caves
Most are beaches because the Philippines is an archipelago of 7,641 islands with total coastline that is even longer than that of US. Said locations are established tourist destinations that could be reached by land, sea or air from Manila, the capital city. Flying to the backcountry from Manila saves ample time especially if time is a constraint.
But for those who favour underrated destinations as I do, Im inclined to recommend exploring the Cordilleras and Samar regions for culture and raw nature, some of my favourite captures are taken in these places. (The mountains of the Cordilleras remain largely accessible via land travel).
Any upcoming projects you'd like to share?
A collaboration zine project with a friend is being discussed and will likely materialize in the coming weeks. Concept is still being explored and it will probably house portraits and stories.

Nature is portrayed so beautifully in your work. How would you say you connect with it?
My connection with nature must have stemmed from my childhood. I grew up on sixteen acres with plenty of woods and animals. I remember when I first started to pursue photography, I would wander around in our woods and look for mushrooms and different looking ferns. Heck, I even followed around some fox tracks in the winter until I lost him by a river. I think these little things have brought me to where I am now. Every time I’m out adventuring, I’m always reminded of John Muir’s quotes; the guy is a huge inspiration to me and I think too many others as well. He really just gets life I guess, as a layman’s way of putting it. Or maybe I just want to be a vagabond and he gives me the courage to think this is ok, I don’t really know.

What kind of stories do you like to tell with your photography? I don't particularly have a story to tell through my photography, but I have a mood that I'd like to set. I edit my photos is a way that is completely out of the norm. Its hard to see this though my recent film work in India, but you can in my previous Wander feature as well my older and upcoming landscape work. I put myself in a different dimension of the world around me where everything is dark, gritty, gloomy and somber.
What were some of the highlights of your trip to India? Would you like to go back and explore the country even more? My highlight of the trip was when I met a muslim man who owned a watch repair shop that was the size of a closet in a New York apartment. I stopped to take a photo of him (and change the battery on my watch). It was pretty clear this man was just getting by, and yet he still offered to buy ME a tea. And yes, I would love to go back to India and experience its unique culture in all of its 29 states.

How did you get into photography?
I guess it’s a familiar story, I’ve always enjoyed being outside exploring, finding new places and making the most of my time. A few years ago I started taking photos of the places I was going and what I was doing, and found it gave me a reason to keep exploring and keep doing the things I enjoyed.
Where have your travels taken you so far, and what were some of the highlights?
Most of the photos I share are from Central Scotland and they are usually the ones that mean the most to me. My favourite shots have been from places nearby me that I previously wouldn’t have thought were worth photographing, but with time and patience can eventually reveal some of the best shots. It can be easy to look at amazing locations around the world and wish you were somewhere else, but over the years I’ve tried to enjoy the places around me and find out what makes them unique.
My personal highlights in Scotland would be the lakes and forests of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park; the Cairngorm Mountains; and a small town called Arisaig that has some of the most amazing sunsets I’ve seen. Scotland has everything a nature/landscape photographer could want, and each season brings with it a totally different colour palette and feeling to photograph.
What is the most important part of photography for you?
Earning a shot. A lot of my best memories are from tough days or early starts where I didn’t know if I would see anything worth photographing but still went out regardless. I’ve had a lot of days that end up not working out, just a day out in the cold and rain, but sometimes with enough persistence you find that shot where everything just falls into place. Something elusive or the weather revealing something special that you might not see again. That’s what keeps me hooked.

How did you first get into photography? It all began a few years ago, when I got my hands on my grandma’s old Praktika. I still remember how fascinated I was by the mechanism of that camera and the whole process of developing film. When I am taking a photograph, my enthusiasm and excitement are still as high now as that moment years before.
What brought on the decision for you to exclusively shoot film? My obsession with traditional film cameras, the unpredictability in the creative process and the look & feel of analog photographs. Noise, grain, color mistakes, and light leaks are essential part of film photography and they make the pictures authentic and even more real.
Where do you hope to travel next with your camera? The biggest inspirations for me are nordic landscapes, undiscovered spots, deserted places and wild nature, therefore exploring Greenland would definitely be a dream come true.

How would you describe your particular style? I can’t say that I have my own style or that I stick to some particular one. Of course, on the whole, most of my photos can be compared as a classical art on such characteristics as clear borders, planeness, linear and aerial perspective, and I often choose scattered illumination and clear elaboration of all elements in a picture. These days I have a growing interest in the questions of colors and their chromatic arrangements, so I started to think more about the colors in my photos instead of the form. Surely, it’s a bit difficult to talk about landscape photos to this end, but I continue working in this regard.
Where do you hope to travel with your camera next? The road of adventures is guiding me, so I do not know where it'll lead me. To be honest, I hope to have a trip to the Caucasus mountains or Altai, but I can not predict this.

Alex Murison West Midlands, UK Nikon D7000
You mentioned that you did a fair amount of wild camping and hiking all across the UK. What has been your most memorable travel experience yet?
I had a period of a few months where I was out of work and struggled to find something new; I decided that I needed to escape for a while. Embarking on a month long solo trip exploring the Isle of Skye and areas of the Scottish Highlands, I visited some truly breathtaking landscapes.
From old Viking settlements in the wilderness around Loch Brittle, to bagging my first munro on the Cuillin Ridge (which also included some very dodgy descents with a fair amount of uncontrollable scree skiing). However, a distinct moment that sticks out in my mind was one morning when camping in a beautiful mossy woodland near Glencoe. It was the final day of my trip before the 8 hour drive back down to the Midlands.
Upon waking, I unzipped my tent and clambered out, only to be met by a majestic red deer stag who stood only a couple of meters away. I froze and so did he, we just looked at one another for what felt like an eternity. He eventually broke my gaze to look around and grab a mouthful of grass before lying down right next to my tent. He remained there for the near entire duration of me packing up, I think secretly laughing inside at watching me struggle to try and fit all my gear into their stuff sacks and my pack. When I was nearly done he got up, took one last look at me, then at the surrounding woodland and off he went, disappearing into the bracken.
What types of stories are you hoping to convey to your audience through your photography
I use photography as a tool to illustrate an alternative perspective of the natural world around us. My passion is long exposure photography, which I feel allows me to create a hidden view within a landscape. The blurring of clouds, waves and waterfalls portrays an almost dream-like appearance of the places that I visit by showing another viewpoint from that which we see with the naked eye. As each image can frequently take 30 seconds or more to capture, it also gives me a chance to appreciate what lies before me, whilst the excited anticipation builds of what the camera is capturing within these hidden landscapes.

We have been long fans on the photographer @chrisburkard, and it’s a pleasure to introduce his latest project:
Under An Arctic Sky - Film
Six surfers set sail along the frozen shores of Iceland as the worst storm in twenty-five years is about to arrive.
___
Being able to share my films & photographs with the world has always been my greatest goal. So I’m proud to release the Kickstarter for my film Under an Arctic Sky.
We are pre- selling the film to fund a world tour and deciding where to take it based on those who support it. From the beginning we wanted this film to be about our connection to wild places and the relationships we forge there. ___
Under An Arctic Sky is a film project documenting a journey to the most remote corners of Iceland in the middle of winter in search of perfect surf.
In this 40 minute film, six surfers set sail along the frozen shores of Iceland as the worst storm in twenty-five years is about to arrive. The storm blows through, shuts down the country, and turns the search for waves into a life-threatening prospect.
Despite constant darkness and stormy seas, the group continues the hunt for perfect waves and attempts to make history by surfing under the northern lights.
Check out the project here: http://kck.st/2lK2m8U
