Polling shows a majority of Australians support the Greens policies on a public developer to build houses below market prices, and scrapping negative gearing and capital gains tax discount. Even 50% of property investors support scrapping negative gearing.
Previous polling has found over 60% support for a rent freeze.
A Guardian Essential poll found that only 9% of respondents thought the housing system was "largely working well" while 43% thought the system was "fundamentally broken."
Labor's housing policies are against the majority of Australians - while Greens are fighting for real structural solutions. Labor's Housing Australia Future Fund was not originally going to guarantee a single cent to building housing until Greens negotiations and pressure.
Voting for the Greens is far more than just stopping the long term devastation of climate change - it's about the immediate need to provide people with access to the human right of housing and shelter.
