« Ukrainian women on the front line struggle to find uniforms that fit. One couple aims to fix that »
from CNN
https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/13/europe/ukraine-women-front-line-uniforms-intl/index.html
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
Andrii Kolesnyk and Kseniia Drahanyuk are a young ukrainian couple, they both used to be TV journalists before the war beetween Russia and their country.
But now, they decided to spend their time procuring vital items for women in service at the army. When Andrii’s sister was sent to the front to fight she received a man uniform and nothing was adapted for her. Women need smaller shoes, hygienic products, women underwears or maybe an uniform adapted for pregnancy. That is when Andrii and Kseniia turned to private company donations, charity funds and crowdfunding in order to make new items more adapted for women. They worked with companies from all around the world such as Sweden, Macedonia and Turkey. It says that they have distributed $1 million worth of equipment for the women fighting and helped at least 3 000 of them.
𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
We can link this article with the Sustainable Development goals number 5 « gender equality » and number 10 « reduced inequalities ».
What these women are facing in this article are gender inequalities. They can’t get the same comfort in their uniform because they were created for men and they didn’t thought about women in service.
What Andrii and Kseniia did helped reducing the differences and inequalities beetween men and women in the army, this could be linked to the target number 5.1 about ending discrimination. The men bodies were used as a standard and they didn’t imagine that women could need another one. Even though women and men have equal they do not have the same body biogically and everyone should be able to fight at war with the same comfort.
𝐌𝐲 𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
I chose this article because first of all i didn’t know women were sent to war and i was shook when i read that pregnant women were fighting too !
But I was also shocked that they couldn’t get a proper uniform. Once again women are forgotten in the society and in the army. But I think what the young couple did to help those women is amazing, and seeing that they’re really dedicated to what they do is encouraging for the future of women.
I wanted to share this article to show how powerful those women fighting everyday are and that with motivation we can help ending those inequalities beetween men and women.

« COP27: Climate anxiety is rising - it might be a good thing »
from BBC
COP27: Climate anxiety is rising - it might be a good thing - BBC News html
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
Today we see a phenomenon rising in the world called « climate anxiety », this phenomenon affects young people in particular. These days we see and hear a ton of news about climate change and global warming on the TV news or social medias. And for some people this can create anxiety, that is climate anxiety.
But this article says that this can be a good thing because if people become anxious about the climate they might start to act in order to change this crisis. Even if it’s small actions, social anxiety lead people to be concerned about their carbon footprint, buying second hand, going vegan or cutting their waste.
On the other hand, Zahra Biabani says its also important to be « climate optimistic » in order to be sustainable in our action against the global warming. So she decided to share good news about the climate in her social medias to spread hope for the future and also help people overwhelmed by this bad climate news and climate change.
𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
We can link this article to the goal number 14 « Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts » because climate anxiety leads people to take action for the earth. We can see that many people from the young generation, like Greta Thunberg for exemple, are more aware of the global warming because of the medias and news we hear all day long. We can link this to the target 13.3 about awaraness-raising on climate change.
We can also link this article to the goal number 12 « ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns ». Because climate anxiety lead people to sustainable consumption for exemple as said in the target 12.3 and 12.5 people are reducing their waste.
This article is also linked to the target number 12.8 about relevant information and awareness
By spreading news, good or bad, we are making people more aware about this situation and it will lead them to take actions. So a good access to information is important.
𝐌𝐲 𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
I chose this article because i might be a little bit climate anxious. These days we hear a lot about global warming and i tend to think about what our world will look like in the future a lot. But as said on this article being climate anxious means being concerned about the situation. The more i was climate anxious the more i took actions like buying second hand, less meat or cutting waste. I decided to share this article because some people might recognise themselves in this. I also liked the little advices to manage climate anxiety. Before this article i already heard about climate anxiety but i never heard about being climate optimistic so i will try to learn more about it to be deal with the anxiety.

« Tokyo begins issuing same-sex couples partnership certificates »
from BBC
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
Even though Japan is already using robots and the newest technologies you could find on the planet, they still don’t allow same-sex marriage. But they decided to take a big step : introduce the same-sex partnership certificate.
𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
I decided to link this article to the sustainable development goal number 10, which is about reducing inequalities. And more particularly the targets 10.2 and 10.3.
As said in the target 10.2, the goal is to empower and promote inclusion of all, and in this case it’s about including same-sex couples in the country. Even though the law doesn’t allow it, japanese people aren’t against gay marriage, a survey was made by NHK (a public broadcaster) and 57% were in favour. It’s a big number but not that big for a G7 member and developped country in 2022. When a local representative for the Liberal Democratic Party (which is ruling in Japan) said that same-sex marriage is « disgusting » the population did not approve and his word were criticised a lot.
One part of target 10.3 is about reducing inequalities by promoting appropriate legislation, policies and action in this regard. In this case they introduce a same-sex partnership certificate. This certificate allows the same-sex couples to enjoy the same rights as any other married couple. But they still won’t be helped with adoption, inheritance and spousal visas. So the law is still discriminating same-sex couples and not treating them as any other couple.
These certificates was also only introduced in Tokyo and 8 other prefecture in Japan. So there is still an issue with same-sex couple in the most conservative part of the country. With the goal 10.3 Japan should eliminate those discriminating laws and all around the country couples should be able to share the same rights no matter their gender or sexual orientation.
𝐌𝐲 𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
When i opened BBC news this morning i was really shocked to read that. I didn’t know that in Japan same-sex marriage weren’t allowed. In my head the only place were they weren’t allowed was dictatorship, undevelopped areas or Russia for example. But seeing a country as developped as Japan , member of the G7 and one of the most developped country, being so ancient on same-sex union and rights is surprising (in a bad way). That’s why I chose to write about it, so people could be aware that discrimination takes place everywhere no matter how developped and wealthy the country is.

« Food is on the ballot for millions of poor Brazilians ahead of presidential run-off vote »
https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/28/americas/brazil-election-sao-paulo-food-intl-latam/index.html
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
This sunday, brazilian are voting to chose their next leader. And because of the pandemic and ukrainian crisis, poor brazilian and families are facing extreme poverty and difficulties to eat. In order to improve this situation, the choice of their next leader is a real important decision they have to make.
𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
We could link this article to the goal number 1, which is about ending poverty. The Ukrainian war and covid crisis made the poverty in brazil even worse, brazilian familles are struggling to survive because the cost of live is getting more and more expensive. In the country right now more than 33 million Brazilians are experiencing hunger. We can link this situation to the goal number 2 about ending hunger and achieving food security. The target 2.1 and 2.2 could really help those poor brazilian families and children. They don’t have enough money to buy nutricious food, some says they can’t even buy bread and all they have in their fridge is water. Some of them starve themselves so they can afford baby formula.
Brazilian people want Lula to be elected because he’ll be most likely to lower the price of food in the country and improve the school. Improving school is linked to the goal number 4 about quality education.
Whereas the actual president Bolsonaro denied what happens in his country. He once said on a tv interview that « there is no hunger in Brazil ».
𝐌𝐲 𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
I chose this article because it reminds us how precious the right of vote is. For us, living in a wealthy country as France we often forget that chosing the right leader can change our life. Brazilian people in comparison, have to fight everyday in order to eat and feed their children. And choosing the right leader can make such a big change and improve their life. This reminds us how lucky we are to be eating enough food everyday and having the right to choose our leader.

« Royal Navy investigates after women come forward with abuse claims »
from BBC
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-63435129
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
This article is about normalised sexual harassement and bullying towards women that are working in the UK’s submarine services. Women are testifying about what they are going through everyday such as being assaulted when they sleep or asked to perform sex acts by men.
𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
We can relate this article to the sustainable development goal number 5 about gender equality and target 5.1 which is about ending discrimination toward women. I chose to link this article to the goal 5 because what the women are facing on those warships is due to inequalities between men and women at work.
For men that are working in the Navy it is totally normal that women are harrassed and treated like this, they don’t even think they’re doing something wrong. Because in areas of work like the navy, police, army and many others women are a minority (only 1% of Submarine Service personnel was female).
For years even though women called those behaviour they were not talent seriously. Improve the working life of these women could enter in goal number 5.
We could also link this to the Goal number 10 about reducing inequality within and among countries and in particular the target 10.2 about empowering inclusion of everyone.
What these women want is being included in their job as much as the men working on the warships.
𝐌𝐲 𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞
I chose this article because in my opinion what is happening on those warships is the reflection of society. At work women are sexually harrassed, bullyed, they are told inappropriate remarks.
And it’s because women are still a minority in leaderships, the target number 5.5 about ensuring equal opportunities for leadership at all level could improve the working life of these women who are working and being directed everyday by men.
I hope that one day « jobs for men » and « jobs for women » will not exist anymore and everyone will be able to work where they want to without living hell at work only because of their gender.
