đđđđ đđđđđ deeply, upon the question, but she has nothing to hide. â A stolen dress. I can explain it! It was one of my very first days wandering here on the land, and a sympathetic lady came at me and  she has beautiful dresses and I could pick one, and changed from what I was using. And she said I have to pay, but I didnât know what money is. She laughed at me and called me lier, I try to say that Iâm not from around here, she didnât believe me in a few seconds came the guards, and more police came and put me behind the cells, with cuffs, where I was starting dehydrating, unable to walk. Lady Lane came and rescued me. And I had after being released from there. â She commented, as she allowed the raven-haired woman doing her things on her body. â Well, but I was. My training in Atlantis always put me in some âunnecessary painâ. It is what it is. â She felt a slightly sting and then once it was removed, she held the cotton on the local where she got an injection. â I was a bit worried in stay behind the bars cells, dehydrating again. â
âI imagine that couldnât have been easy when all you wanted was some dry clothes.â Lena muttered with a small frown. She had hoped sympathy would have won out over profit in the instance of seeing a bedraggled woman but apparently not. âDoes Lois know where you came from?â She questioned. She trusted Lois to always put the safety of others over a story - but she also imagined it couldnât be easy for her to sit on the knowledge of Atlanteans without the ability to publish it. âWell, weâll do our best to make sure that doesnât happen. Both with building some precautions for your physiology - and hopefully we can help with you navigate the social cues of this world.â

Thank God for work mode. The pair had a tendency to get immediately stuck in to their work. âI was thinking of using nanotech. Leadâs dense enough to work as a lining to the general suit and itâs not magnetic so it canât interfere with the radiation blocker. Thatâll allow us to make the blocker smaller. Combine it with the nanotech and itâll fit right in a purse.â
âThat could definitely work.â Lena agreed with a pleased smile as she noted down the thoughts. âWeâll need to be careful with the amount of lead though - we donât it dampening Kara or Clarkâs senses to the point they canât rely on superhearing or x ray vision.â She muttered as she begin scribbling out calculations for what combinations they could use to counteract any issues with the lead. âI like it being compact though - ideally we can attach it to a wearable so they have the quickest possible access to it.â

Grace let out a content moan as she leaned over to rest the side of her head against Lenaâs shoulder. âThatâs fine. You can be my bodyguard, hurricane Lena.â she mumbled quietly, nodding her head gently to go along with her words. Sure, her drunk self probably liked everyone at this point, though Grace was sure that sheâd like Lena sober too - not just because sheâd had too much to drink. âAnd Iâm fine with that because you have a cute smile and you should use it more.â
âIâm not very good at protecting people.â Lena admitted ruefully as she adjusted Grace until she was leaning more comfortably on her shoulder, not wanting the other woman to hurt her neck. âBut I do my best at taking care of them, so how about we start with that?â She offered, signalling for someone who looked relatively sober to grab a glass of water for Grace. âWell, thank you. For what itâs worth yours is pretty cute too.â She complimented with a small laugh.

Perenna nodded as Lena spoke, jotting quick notes as she listened. âYour own company, thatâs very ambitious. Do you enjoy the work that you do?â Her question countered Lenaâs statement, hoping that trust would be built as they spoke more and more. âThatâs completely fine, this session is yours to talk about whatever you wish.â She paused to continue listening, making a quick note about resistance to talk about family so sheâd remember that for her clinical write-up after their session had ended. She felt the nervous energy that Lena was giving off, looking back up from her notepad. âSometimes thatâs all we need to feel comfortable and supported.â Pausing, she pondered a question, hoping it would help Lena look inward. âDo you think thereâs any particular reason youâve just remained with that small group of people for as long as you have?â
Lena let out a small laugh at the question, almost more of a sigh as she considered it. âSometimes.â She answered - she did love her work, most of the time. But if she was honest that wasnât always the case. And taking over LuthorCorp from her brother certainly wasnât what she envisioned doing when she was younger. âMost of the time, but there are elements of it I donât enjoy. I think most people can say that about their job, though.âÂ
She frowned a little in thought at the question posed. She was reticent to trust and open up to people - the fact that she had with Kara and the others was a miracle. Even more so that it encouraged her to do the same with even more people when she arrived on Earth One. âGetting to know new people isnât easy for me. Iâve... been burned before, by people I let myself close to. It takes time and effort for me to trust people so it doesnât happen that often.â

Their head jerked up at her voice, the list momentarily forgotten. Does she know-? No. No, of course not. Weâre fine. Itâs fine. Winnâs lips quirked up in the imitation of a smile as they tried not to worry her any more. âI know. Thank you.â
Clapping their hands together, they quickly jumped to a new subject: science. âSo, what dâyou wanna work on?â
Lena watched them for a moment after their clipped response, before finally nodding - satisfied, at least, that Winn wasnât going to completely avoid whatever was bothering them. Even if they didnât discuss it. âWell, Iâve been working on tweaks to the anti-kryptonite suit - hoping to make it more compact so it doesnât impede Kara too much in a fight. Think you could help with that? The supersuits the Legionnaires wore looked fairly lightweight.â

đđđđ đđđđđđimmobile when Lena, started to do the procedure with her. â No. I have been behind the cell bars. Lady Lois Lane, helped me to bail me out of prison. This happened in one of my first days here in the land. â She stated, observing Lena tightening her arm. â I donât fear, you can relax. Iâm used to endure pain. â Her training in Atlantis, on how to be a warrior⊠Her father always told her pain is a sign of weakness. He wasnât very supportive when she try to training like a warrior, he feared for the faith of her own mother to happen on her. Â
âWhat landed you in prison?â Lena queried with a small laugh as she monitored Meraâs blood pressure, glad to find it at a steady level. She frowned slightly at the womanâs assurance she was used to being hurt, shaking her head slightly as she removed the cuff. âThat doesnât mean you should be put through any unnecessary pain.â She countered, before wiping down the injection point on Meraâs arm, readying a needle to draw her blood. âThis will sting.â She warned, even though she knew Mera had told her she could take it, before sinking the needle in and carefully withdrawing once the sample was taken. She quickly pressed a cotton bud to the injection site, applying pressure to help clot it. âI remember you asking me not to call the police when we met.â She noted with a small smile. âI take it youâve had trouble already since you got here?â

âBut Iâd make an amazing bodyguard, I swear.â Grace nodded confidently, as if she was really trying to convince Lena to let her provide the protection she needed. Of course, her mind being inebriated meant that she took most things literally, which was also the case with Lenaâs next words. She was mentioning bells and naturally, the brunetteâs ears perked up almost immediately, âIâm supposed to be ringing anything? Wedding bells? Are you getting married?!â
âIâm sure you would - but I have plenty of bodyguards, trust me.â Lena chuckled with a small shake of her head. She blinked in confusion at the question posed seemingly out of nowhere - panicking when for a brief second the word âweddingâ conjured thoughts of Alex before she quickly packed those thoughts up tight in a box and pushed it far back in her mind until she was ready to digest them. âI- no. Wow, youâve really had a lot to drink havenât you?â She laughed a little too forcefully as she quickly tried to divert away from that subject. âI think rather than becoming my bodyguard we should find you some water and a place to nap.â

Lena was lucky as this would go right over Graceâs head in her drunk state. She wouldnât remember this story come tomorrow, which put the other woman in the clear - unless she wanted Grace to know all of this about her? âYou killed the man you love?â she tilted her head curiously while looking Lena over, lips pursing over to one side as if she was trying to process the information sheâd been given. âAnd you have an insane brother? Okay, all of that is the opposite of my life. Whereâs your brother now? Is he gonna come after you? Iâll protect you if youâre not safe!â
âYeah.â Lena muttered at the question. She couldnât bring herself to say more. She had loved Jack, and she had failed him. It didnât matter how many years passed, that she had finally managed to feel safe loving someone else. It would haunt her until her grave. âNo idea. And he probably will.â She gave a weak chuckle at the thought. She was under no illusion that Lex was done with her. âThat offer is... very sweet, but I donât want anyone else getting hurt because of me. So, no protection service for you.â She tried to inject levity in her tone, give it somewhat of a joking lilt. But she wasnât sure how successful she was. âWhatever youâve done, Grace. I guarantee you it couldnât phase me after everything. And I like to think by now Iâm a good judge of character. I know how to spot bad people... and youâre not ringing any alarm bells for me.â

They toyed with a loose tool that was sat on one of the benches, fiddling absently. They sent her a smile in thanks, unable to verbally reply. If they focused too much on it, they got pulled back into the nightmare, trapped in that loop of pain. They couldnât go through that, not again. âWell, hereâs to the protectors, then.â They raised the tool in salute, focusing adamantly on the objects around them. Tool, bench, weird device #1, cool thing #2. They couldnât go back, not there, not when there were other people there.
âTo the protectors.â Lena followed the mock salute, raising her now drained coffee cup in a toast, before watching Winn for a moment. A small frown tugged at her eyebrows as she watched them meticulously take stock of their surroundings. It might not have flagged up to most people, but Lena recognised a coping mechanism when she saw one, having to adopt plenty of her own. âYou know if you ever need to talk about anything...â She let the offer hang, trying to leave it as casual as possible, wary not to press too hard.

as lena wore her pin, carrie proudly did the same. her eyes watched as every competitor seemed to scatter - as if they couldnât out to leave. âdo you want lunch?â carrie blurted out as she turned to lena again, âthereâs a nice deli nearby. the cold cuts are kinda questionable but theyâre worth it. and they have really good grape slushies.â not exactly gourmet, nor the cuisine she was sure the CEO was used to â but it was one of her favorite spots, and the participants seemed to be scattering for the stale finger foods provided at the buffet. âbeats a day old bagel?â
Lenaâs head shot up, almost startled, at the offer, blinking in surprise for a moment before a small smile tugged at her lips. âIâd love to grab lunch.â She agreed with a nod, chuckling a little at Carrieâs not quite glowing review of the nearby deli. âIt does indeed. Besides, I havenât eaten anything questionably delicious since college - I kind of miss the risk.â She joked.
