It had been a rather short trip. Shorter than Matthew had expected. It made sense, however. The past week or so had been exceptionally busy; what with the birth of his nephew. With that and the pressing strains between he and his brother still unsolved, it was no wonder he had slept almost the entire way.
He was jostled out of his sleep by a bump in the road. Still groggy, the boy rubbed his eyes before peering out of the window, He recognized the area almost instantly. He hadn't been in Diamonds in a while. Not this part, anyway; but he remembered it well. They were close to the Diamonds' castle.
Matthew wasn't really one for diplomatic visits. After all, he was the military strategist for Spades. It was rather odd for him, even, to be on a visit such as this. However, his brother was busy with the new child and had asked him to take his place. The Ace didn't see the harm in doing so.
They arrived, and the driver hopped down to open the door for him. The Ace gave the other a small thank you before beginning to move towards the doors to the castle; where the Queen was waiting for him. He offered a polite bow to her, "Your Highness."

There was a knock on the door, alerting Lili almost immediately. She paused in her readings for a second, closing the book before answering the door. “Am I needed Miss?” She asked as the maid let herself into the room.
“My Queen.”  The maid greeted Lili with a quick curtsy before getting to her message. “The Ace of Spades, his carriage has been spotted near the edge of the estate.”
Lili was silent for a second, before looking out her front window only to confirm the maid’s beliefs. Far in the distance, she could see the carriage lumbering along. “I am the one needed right?”  Her maid nodded at the question.
Lili smiled, she hadn’t met the Ace yet, having only heard of him. She decided then and there that she would treat him to lunch, it was common courtesy after his long journey. “Please set up the main dining hall for two as Francis will not be attending. I will go down to greet him myself.”
The maid nodded once again and rushed off. Lili on the other hand, bundled up her skirts and made her way down the long halls until she reached the front of the castle, ready to greet the Ace personally.

Nonsense you're perfect. Shh. Thanks. >w<
you’re right, we don’t have very many options here. but the idea of a diplomat seems like it’s the only one we’ve really got so let’s go for it

Uuuuh... not really. I mean Both of my characters are in Spades, at the moment. Matthew could just be visiting to keep up good terms with Diamonds for Spades, know what I mean? Like a Diplomat, almost? Cody (Australia)... he's basically the ring's Robin Hood... don't know how he'd work out with Lili at all. =w=;;

The Wheel one... whichever tribe that is.
Ffft. Hrafn gets lost… Cody tries to rob him… Hrafn hands Cody’s ass to him. >.>;; During the scuffle he sees the item-thing… and then questions why the heck he’s alone and not within a tribal area or anything. Or something. I dunno.

Matthew had been truly happy about the arrival of his nephew; and not only for his own selfish reasons. He liked the idea of children, and was happy to have one within the home again. It was like the castle had been filled with an entirely new kind of energy.
He was also happy to see his brother so happy. This was why he had wanted to see him and his nephew. This was why he had knocked. He came in, when he was given permission, quietly closing the door behind him, "... How is he?" There was a smile on the Ace's face when he half-whispered this.
This was truly exciting.
It hasn’t even been a full two days that Alfred has had his son, but he’s already completely in love with him.
Even when he cries.  Even when he throws a fit because Alfred didn’t lay him down in the right position.  Even when he acts like he wants to be fed and then refuses to suckle.
Even when he’s being insufferable, Alfred cannot bring himself to use a scolding or tired tone with his child.  He finds himself both unable to wait for him to grow up, and wishing that he would stay this way forever - he wants to take him out hunting and swimming and to the vaulting matches, but he also enjoys having a constant presence in his arms.  It as if the heft of the baby was perfectly made for Alfred, a puzzle piece meant to stay there indefinitely, a permanent accessory for the king.
He’s holding him again, this time silent as Reverie manages to nap in his fidgety father’s arms.  Someone knocks at the door, and Alfred reluctantly raises his head.  ”Come in,” he says softly, a small smile appearing on his face.

I like the idea of him having an item. Simply because, knowing him, he would have found something in the orphanage by now. Since he snoops around everywhere. XD Now... how would he end up crossing the path of someone like Hrafn. Because it's a low class meeting up with a diplomat. Unless he just happens to point the boy out. Or maybe he comes across a lost Joey or something, and Cody comes running after to find him? I dunno... =w= *making stuff up as they go*

Well.... we just need a way for Aussie to realize at least... something about his roots. =w=;; We always have that he's already an empath to animals without fully realizing it.

Matthew watched the stranger carefully as he backed away, prepared to defend at any sign of attack. Thankfully, no sort of attack ever came. This was good. Very good.
The Ace was a bit perplexed with what the doppelganger had to say. So he had a copy in this world as well. By the sound of it, his copy wasn't the pleasant sort. That made sense, seeing as Matthew himself  never wanted to get the throne; but at the same time, that making sense was what made this whole situation make so sense at all. He wouldn't mention his concern, for the moment.
Instead, he continued to listen. Finding a way out was more important than asking questions that could be saved for later. He thought about their options. Thought about the possibility that this stranger was lying to them; tricking them. It was unlikely. So he agreed, "Very well. East it is. Shall we go, then?" And he began their journey through and out of the wretched swamp.
It was not until they were well on their way through that Matthew decided to voice his concerns about the earlier conversation, "You know... something you said earlier does not make sense to me. You say your... version... of me took the throne? I never would have. I would have declined my rights to it. So why did your Matthew not?"
Brothers & Swamps
Unlike Alfred, Matthew didn’t share his original feelings of joy over possibly finding a demon. He got the feeling that his brother didn’t quite understand how dangerous demons could be; not to mention how difficult it was to keep them captured.
This was what first proved to Matthew that they were, in fact, not dealing with a demonic being at all. A demon could have escaped them by now with relative ease. Even then, in this place, a demon actually seemed less likely than the alternative.
The Ace remained quiet, for the most part, and listened to the conversation unfold. Matthew found the idea of himself being King -very- hard to believe. However, under the circumstances that the doppelganger had explained, it all seemed to check out.  While the other two were calling each other demons, he was thinking through all possibilities.
Clearly, he would have to be the logical one in this situation.
“… I believe…. we are already no longer in our world, Alfred. Thinks about it. We haven’t been able to find our camp for hours. Stories of the swamp are laced with -time- magic. I think your… duplicate… speaks the truth. Frankly, his story interests me. I would like to learn more of this place. The magic here is not supposed to last long anyway. As long as we return, I think we will find our way back.”
With that, he stepped closer to his brother’s copy, crouching down to be more at level with him, “As guests here, we will not bring harm to you as long as you do not bring harm to us. Can we agree on a truce?”

... True enough. I think the last time we ever mentioned such things was during that camp trip, eh? A few years back? ... That was actually a fun time, overall.

I bet that pretty face is that one soldier in my army. That one you ran into when I was showing you the latest recruits. Isn’t it? *teasing*
Oh, quiet, you.  Soldiers are a little too domineering for my tastes - I prefer more petite men like Arthur!  …not that we’re going to stand here and discuss our tastes in men and women.

Yes, yes, I am aware of this too. -chuckles, trying to stay light and positive-
Hm. *smiles just a tad* I'm sure, if it came down to it, that you would have a far better time convincing him to not make a decision than I have. I don't think you should worry very much.
