Partial lunar eclipse tonight
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Partial lunar eclipse tonight The world will see a partial lunar eclipse tonight (Friday). The penumbral lunar eclipse will start around 10:45 pm in Pakistan, peak at 12:24 am, and end in the early hours of June 6 at 2:04 am. According to The Guardian, "The full moon will clip the outer portion of Earth’s shadow, forming a penumbral lunar eclipse. This is much subtler than a complete lunar eclipse, in which the moon seems to turn red as it passes through the darkest part of Earth’s shadow, located right behind our planet." Penumbral lunar eclipses are hard to see by eye because only a portion of the sun’s light is blocked from reaching the moon. The eclipse will be apparent from most of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and the East coast of South America. Read the full article

Vantablack Darkest Material in the World
Tumblr media
Scientists in 2014 made the darkest commercially available material in the world called Vantablack.
Tumblr media
Vantablack Darkest Material in the World Then they outdid themselves and made an even darker version. But in 2019, Vantablack was upended by a new element that became the blackest and darkest material in the world. Vantablack was made by a British company called Surrey NanoSystems, and it originally absorbed all but 0.035% of visual light when it came out in 2014. The company then made a new version of Vantablack that can be sprayed directly onto other objects. This version was so black that there wasn’t an optical spectrometer available anywhere in the world with the sensitivity to test it. The matter even absorbed light from a laser. Vantablack is made of millions of carbon nanotubes that are so tiny that each nanotube has a diameter of approximately 20 nanometers. That is 3,500 times tinier than the diameter of a human hair. When light hits the surface of the Vantablack, it enters the space in the millions of nanotubes. As light moves in the nanotube structure, it gets absorbed and can’t be reflected. This results in a black surface that gets as close as we know to what a black hole might look like as it reflects almost no light. It’s believed that one square centimeter of the surface contains one billion nanotubes, according to Surrey NanoSystems. The appearance of Vantablack creates dramatic effects since there is nearly no reflection from light. When it is put on a three-dimensional object, the object seems to be two-dimensional. Since Vantablack covers another surface, it’s almost impossible to see what the surface looks like. https://thegeekz.net/plastic-eating-bacterium-scientists-accidentally-made-it-stronger/ Any folds or wrinkles on a surface seem flat or as if nothing is there. The human eye is incapable to detect any surface changes without the reflection of light. Vantablack is created through a process in a chemical vapor deposition chamber that uses lamps to raise the temperature of the surface to 430º Celsius. According to Surrey NanoSystems, this provides a carbon “nanotube forest to grow,” and the name originates from the term Vertically Aligned Nanotube Arrays. Read the full article

Why the Dark Forest Theory Suggests We Should Stop Searching for Aliens

Why the Dark Forest Theory Suggests We Should Stop Searching for Aliens
Tumblr media
Image by fernando zhiminaicela from Pixabay We have been fascinated with the possibility of extraterrestrial life for many years now. People look up at the stars and ask that existential question: Are we alone? The truth is, it may be better than we believe ourselves to be. With billions of Earth-like planets estimated in the Milky Way, most of which have been around far longer than our small little world. Yet, we haven’t heard a peep from the stars. There’s have to be a reason and it’s the question posed by Enrico Fermi many years ago. The Great Filter is a simple answer but it is very vague as to what that reason could be. The Dark Forest theory, however, is both clear and terrifying. In short terms, this theory basically states that aliens are purposefully staying calm. The science fiction novel the theory is based on was written by Liu Cixin. Essentially, this theory considers all life in the Universe would be risk-averse. Considering in terms of survival, and recognizing that the Universe is a huge space, they would not make attempts to reach out to contact others in the case that a violent civilization exists. This fear and risk aversion is the cause of the radio silence we are accustomed to. Here’s a quote from the book that explains the theory: "The universe is a dark forest. Every civilization is an armed hunter stalking through the trees like a ghost, gently pushing aside branches that block the path and trying to tread without sound. Even breathing is done with care. The hunter has to be careful because everywhere in the forest are stealthy hunters like him. If he finds another life - another hunter, angel, or a demon, a delicate infant to tottering old man, a fairy or demigod - there’s only one thing he can do: open fire and eliminate them." How to Win the Battle Of Healthy Eating
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How to Win the Battle Of Healthy Eating One of the most common New Year’s resolutions must be the commitment to eat healthier food. We all aim for “less sugar” and “fewer fries” but we also understand how difficult it is to trade these tasty snacks for healthier carrot sticks when both are available. We undergo a battle between our short-term and long-term selves: our short-term selves crave for the fries because they taste so good, while our long-term selves fight in favor of the carrot sticks because we want to live longer with better fitness. Thoughts of how delicious a particular food tastes aren’t entirely defined by the food itself. Our minds are story-tellers that form associations and assumptions based on past events. This usually means that we overgeneralize patterns in a way that does not necessarily reflect reality. For example, consumers usually think that the more unhealthy food is, the tastier it is. Even preschoolers feel like they’re being deceived when an adult tells them to eat something because it’s better for them. Kids eat less crackers if they listen to a story about how crackers are good than if they listen to the same story with no advice about health advantages. Youngsters may be especially vulnerable to unhealthy eating because their minds are still developing and their self-control ability hasn’t yet reached its peak. So researchers over the US lately took to university dining halls to examine whether they could convince students to eat healthily. If there’s a battle between a short-term and long-term self in deciding between healthy and unhealthy food, then maybe the researchers could increase healthy eating by appealing to the short-term self’s favorite target: tastiness. With the knowledge that perceptions of taste are determined by beliefs, the researchers devised different labels for foods in the dining hall. On some random days, healthy foods presented with taste-focused labels such as “Herb n’ Honey Balsamic Glazed Turnips” and “Sizzlin’ Szechuan Green Beans with Toasted Garlic”. On other days they preferably presented health-focused labels such as “Healthy Choice Turnips” and “Nutritious Green Beans”. Although the foods were alike, the words were speaking either to people’s short-term selves (“this is tasty!”) or to their long-term selves (“this is healthy!”). Over the schools that the researchers observed, students chose 29% more green foods when they saw a taste-focused tag instead of a health-focused tag, and their vegetable eating raised by 39%. Taste labels successfully promoted healthy choices despite how tasty individual dishes were, but they were most successful in schools that often offered delicious vegetable dishes. In other words, schools need to develop a circle of consistently delightful healthy options, rather than any particular one-hit-wonder. The researchers administered an online version of their study too, where people could decide which dishes to eat if they were possible in real life. Once again, people were more likely to choose dishes with a taste-focused rather than health-focused label. They gathered that a dish with a health-focused tag will taste worse than a food with a taste-focused label. They also believed that a food with a health-focused label would taste bad than the same dish with a neutral tags such as “Turnips” or “Green Beans”. We are all preschoolers at heart. Following their studies, the researchers demonstrated that Read the full article

INTUITION IS A PART OF SPIRITUALITY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
INTUITION IS A PART OF SPIRITUALITY Intuition is a part of spirituality. Many times, you may have encountered situations where you might have been in a mysterious situation. If you decide a certain way, then if it can harm you or your loved ones, and if you take it the other way, then it can harm you or your loved ones too. Usually, a person left in such a situation listens to decisions from the mind. Surprisingly few listen to the decisions given by the heart. Those who take decisions from the mind believe it wise and logical. You must always hear the call of your spirit through these times. However, a lot of people do not how to hear and talk with the soul or spirit. There is a secret, which if a person practices, can hear and talk to his or her heart to make the right decisions. Most of the people cannot get the difference between a thought and a call of spirit. They feel it the same. Though both are nearly the same, there is very little difference between the two. And, the only person who can understand this difference tastes real success. The difference is like distinguishing between a glass of water and a glass of soda. Understanding the difference is crucial if you want to grow up as a successful person. Intuition plays an important role while communicating with your spirit. Many people hold this element of intuition more while several have this element less. However, with the help of meditation and spiritual guides, it is possible to attain this property of intuition. Intuition is like a message that your inner soul tries to convey to you. It is different from thoughts. Intuition is always positive and if it is negative, then it is in the form of danger warnings. Only when a person attains spiritual satisfaction, then he can reason out intuition from his or her soul. Intuition guides you, solve problems, helps you to alleviate from a stressful situation, and relieves anxiety, and so on. Many times, it has been seen that mysteries could be resolved by this property of intuition. Overall, it can be called trust and faith in your inner self that leads to the attainment of the element of intuition. It must not be confused with confidence. Confidence is something different that is temporary. A person can lose confidence anytime, but if a person gains spirituality and intuition, then it is permanent attainment. Understanding the Concept of God Whenever we speak of anything spiritual, we can relate it to our inner soul. Some others may connect it to the word God. However, this is a very complicated thing and this sense can only be attained through practical experience. Spirituality is nothing but the feeling of the existence of God in our soul. God is great. He is omnipotent and omnipresent. His presence is in every human being and every corner of the world. He is big, but He is small that His every little bit, is in every part of the world. Go back to the school days when you studied Biology as a subject. During the practical classes, many times you may have watched unknown things happening under the microscope. These things are the ones that you had not known until then. It is like the discovery of a new civilization of microorganisms. We all know that a microscope lens magnifies a thing 200 to 400 times than it is. Read the full article

New 316 Minor Planets Found Past Neptune
Tumblr media Tumblr media
New 316 Minor Planets Found Past Neptune Astronomers in the Dark Energy Survey (DES) tells the discovery of 316 minor planets past Neptune. Of those, 139 were totally unknown before this new study, while 245 were detected in earlier observations by the DES. More than six years of data on the night sky was collected during the Dark Energy Survey, compiling the most detailed images of the southern sky ever assembled. Study didn't aim to find trans-Neptunian Objects (TNO’s), but the comprehensive maps created by DES turned out to be ideal in finding small bodies past the orbit of Neptune. “The number of TNOs you can find depends on how much of the sky you look at and what’s the faintest thing you can find,” states Gary Bernstein of the University of Pennsylvania. At first, the raw data consisted of seven billion dots - where the search picked up an object. Any objects which were in the very place for more than one night were then excluded from the dataset, reducing the number of TNO candidates to 22 million targets. Those were later examined for those looking as pairs or triplets of images, suggesting regular movement, like what would be expected when looking at a TNO. These candidates were whittled down to those which were seen on six or more nights. “We have this list of candidates, and then we have to make sure that our candidates are actually real things,” https://thegeekz.net/mercury-is-making-its-own-ice/ says Pedro Bernardinelli of the University of Pennsylvania explains. Dedicated researches for TNOs usually photograph objects once every hour or two, causing the detection of movement more apparent that looking at images taken less frequently. Bernardinelli made a new stacking system, allowing researchers to better determine which signals described actual TNO’s, and which were false signals. The system was tested on known TNO’s, as well as purposely created false signals, and the tests proved accurate. Searching the Darkness The best known TNO is the dwarf planet Pluto, found in 1930, and reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006. Read the full article

Mercury is Making Its Own Ice
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mercury is Making Its Own Ice As the nearest planet to the Sun, Mercury is hot. Like, ultra hot. Temperatures on the surface reach more than 400 degrees Celsius, and yet, back in 2012, NASA’s MESSENGER probe spotted something incredible: masses of water ice on Mercury’s surface. Earlier, radar telescopes on the ground had picked up patches of something shiny and reflective in some of the planet’s craters, so this finding confirmed scientists’ suspicions. Based on new research, the answer may be stranger than you’d imagine. Mercury’s ice might not exist in spite of the heat, but because of it. Now, we’re talking about a place that’s way too hot for water, let alone the frozen kind! But when you are that close to a massive body like Sun, it’s not just the heat that matters - the gravity does too. On average, Mercury is nearly 60% closer to the Sun than the Earth - close enough that the difference among the Sun’s pull on the near side and the far side is much significant, notably when it passes closest to the Sun. On top of that, Mercury is not a perfect sphere - it’s somewhat stretched, and its stretched parts act like handles that the Sun tugs inward when it makes that closest approach. In the past, that repeated tug decreased the planet’s rotation until it was locked to its period around the Sun. Now that same tug holds Mercury locked in that pattern. As a result, every two years on Mercury, the planet experiences one day. And it lasts for almost 176 Earth days. So, each day, each side of the planet spends over 4000 hours under the burning sun and over 4000 hours in the pitch dark. And as anyone who lives in Arctic winters will know, Read the full article

9 Daily Life Psychological Tricks
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Image by Tumisu from Pixabay We are going to tell you about the 9 most unusual tricks we’ve found. There is a cause why traditional literature writers put so much thought into the actions of the eyebrows and eyelashes of their characters. Modern researchers have shown that we give up to 93% of information non-verbally. By the way, non-verbal interaction is not just our body language and mimics, but even the scents and the things we surround ourselves with. Here are 9 psychological tricks that we have found. To win someone, check the eye color of the person. This will help make a good connection with a person you don’t know. The time you require to check the color of their eyes is precisely the time you need to make good eye contact. According to psychologists, it takes 3 to 5 seconds. If you don’t look in their eyes at all, or spend more than 9 seconds looking, they may feel uncomfortable. Also, smile with your eyes when looking at their nose bridge. This is the center of the social contact area. If you see lower than the nose, it may be taken as an intrusion in their private space, and if you look higher - as an effort to pressure. Don’t start a conversation with a new person right away - give them some time. After you’ve made eye contact, don’t begin the chat right away. Take a few moments to hang your coat, open your bag, move your chair. That will provide the person a few more seconds to decide their first impression of you. And in the conversation, they won’t lose focus while noticing new things about you, because they’ve already had sufficient time to have a good look at you. Touching the stem of glass can indicate attraction. Psychological tests show that touching cylindrical things seems like a sign of attraction. If a girl desires to show to a guy that she’s interested in him, she just needs to touch the stem of her glass. The same will work with a pen, or a ring she can play with on her finger. https://thegeekz.net/10-ways-to-reduce-exam-stress/ Pointing your foot toward a person helps to reduce the social distance. If your legs are crossed while you are sitting, point at the person you’re interested in with your foot. This gesture reduces the social distance because it looks like an effort to get closer. This position doesn’t violate the private space of other people, so it can be used in business environments. The “OK” gesture helps to show power without any aggressiveness. If you want to get the attention of an audience, but you don’t want to be too forward, here’s a little trick. Assume that you are holding a needle in your thumb and your index finger as if you are making the “OK” gesture. Throughout the conversation, try to show the needle to other people. This way, this gesture will appear natural, but you will also draw people’s attention to the important details. Read the full article

How To Switch To Dark Mode In Facebook Last year at the annual F8 developer conference, Facebook unveiled a new design for its desktop website. Over the previous few months, Facebook has been giving some users opt into the new design in several regions, but on Friday, the redesigned website launched globally, letting everyone with a Facebook account the ability to check the new looks and the added features of the updated desktop experience. If you want to check what the new Facebook looks like, all you have to do is go to Facebook.com on a browser, click on the down arrow at the right side menu bar at top of the page, and look for the menu that reads “Switch to New Facebook.” You can get back to the old look at any time from the very menu. There are some notable changes on New Facebook, some of which you will notice right away, and some of which you may not. In the latest version of the site, finding what you are searching for is easier than ever, with huge, easy-to-read buttons and shortcuts all over the page. Page transitions also load faster, meaning you will give less time waiting. But the most obvious change of all has to be the long-awaited addition of dark mode. Once you have shifted over to the New Facebook, find the same down arrow in the top-right corner of the screen and click on it. Read the full article

The Healthy People Around the World Don’t Go to the Gym
Image by Daniel Reche from Pixabay If you desire to be as healthy as possible, there are no treadmills or weight machines needed. Don’t just take my word for it — look to the longest-lived people in the world as proof. People in the world Blue Zones, the areas around the world with the longest life expectancy, don’t pump iron, run marathons, or join gyms. Rather, they live in environments that continually nudge them into moving without even thinking about it. This means that they grow gardens, walk during the day, and reduce mechanical accessories for home and yard work. In fact, Blue Zones researchers concluded that regular natural movement is one of the most impactful ways to extend your life span and a common habit amongst the world’s longest-lived populations. Of course, this may not seem practical in our current knowledge, where we’re usually tied to a desk and in front of a computer screen all day. Moving naturally during the day might sound good and romantic, but the reality is that 100 years ago only 10% of us had sedentary jobs, whereas today it’s 90%.
