TAZ: Ethersea PC Headcanons go!!
Amber Gris
—> she’s a butch lesbian there’s no way around it
—> world’s biggest himbo, v street smart but man is she dumb of ass sometimes
—> everytime she says ‘I know a guy’ it’s literally one of her exes
—> reluctant mom friend of the crew, but sometimes she just straight up cannot deal w/them. She values her alone time.
—> Stubborn queen <33, she’s v protective of those she considers family (like Ol Joshy lol)
—> She/her, she and Devo were the ones to teach Zoox about pronouns
—> takes no shit from anyone but willing to let things pass to stay under the radar
Zoox Anthellae
—>during downtime between missions, Zoox tries to learn about things other than animals (he also learns about animals but to a lesser extent)
—> curious bitch, he wants to learn about the world and he’s willing to do that in anyway possible
—> he’s also v impulsive w/his decisions. Will literally drop what he was doing in an instant if something else catches his fancy.
—> he likes to share any and all facts he thinks are interesting with whoever is near by (usually Amber and Devo). When the clam incident happened he spent a lot of time learning about clams and stuff
—> ok so gender for Brinnar is v complicated. Some Brinnar use multiple pronouns, some use gender neutral or neoprouns and some don’t use any at all. But they do all have a basic concept of gender/pronouns.
—> Zoox is different bcuz he doesn’t have those kind of memories. He has no memories and didn’t even know what gender was before he met up with Amber and Devo.
—> not v particular in how people refer to him, after Amber and Devo explained what pronouns are and how they work and gave him a few examples, he decided on he/it but really doesn’t care, whatever people perceive him as is fine
Devo la Main
—> Devo also likes to learn about the outside world, he and Zoox sometimes tell each other the things they learned that they find exciting
—> sometimes on bad days that curiosity festers into guilt, and Devo cuts himself off and goes to the stand by the pilot’s area in silence for the rest of the day.
—> tries masking his feelings so that he doesn’t worry Amber and Zoox, he also hates being vulnerable in front of others so anytime it happens he over exaggerates how okay he is afterwards.
—>really bad at emotions, both distinguishing them and expressing them. He’s worried about the anger that festers in his soul and what it will mean in regards to who he is as a person
—> he wants to do right by others, especially those in disadvantaged situations. Wishes to help others like he wished he had been helped as a kid
—> uses some kind of nightlight even now on the Coriolis (probably uses Light on an item)
—> He/him, transmasc. Guidance/the parish halfheartedly try to use his pronouns/name and when corrected somehow turn it around to make them the victims.
—> Devo goes looking for the praise he didn’t get as child literally anywhere, leads him into trouble a lot bcuz he’s also not too good w/social interactions so he usually ends up making people mad at him

Devo looked back towards his friends, hand hesitating at Brother Seldom’s door for a second as he steadied himself with a long, shaking breath.
Then he knocked.
It felt like all the air was punched out of his lungs as he heard the familiar voice of Brother Seldom yell from the other side of the house with approaching footsteps. He could barely hear Amber and Zoox talking behind him as he tried to catch his breath. He takes a step back as he hears the lock on Seldom’s door click, thinking of their previous interaction.
“Hello? Who’s…” Brother Seldom asks as he opens the door, his smile trailing off into something sadder as he sees Devo. His voice changing into the same comforting tone he’d had when Devo first arrived from the Parish. He’s pretty confident he looks the same now, pale and shaking with the only difference being his clothes. “Oh, Devo. Can I…?”

so apparently some people feel like it’s annoying when someone engages with a lot of stuff from the same person, like going through their ship tag and liking all the content there.

i think i’m on my defending devo (as a character) arc so
anyways
it is so nice to see a character that's been in a situation like devo has get out and not just be... fine? like, it’s somehow so encouraging to see a character like devo trying (and struggling) to get better.
like, he’s doing a terrible job at not mentally attacking every person he comes across, don’t get me wrong. but the fact we as people are able to understand when he is trying, and the fact that he still has the values he has to break from being in the benevolent parish is oddly comforting.
elaborating on what i said above, it’s so nice to see a portrayal of the fact that you don’t just lose all of the negative thought processes and habits that got imprinted into you growing up. that’s something you have to fix manually.

Waking up, Angus immediately reached for his glasses and wand, nearly punching a tray of breakfast off of the table next to him.
Checking it over for any signs of being tampered with, Angus found a note written with a neat script.
If you’re unaware, that box next to you is a phone. The smaller part is used like a stone of farspeech, pick it up.
Right as Angus touched his hand to the cold plastic, a loud ringing emanated from it, breaking the quiet.
“Uh, hello?” He asked, quickly grabbing his notebook to write down a record of this call.
“Hello, Angus.” A voice said, overlapping his own. “My name is Indrid Cold, and I have a feeling we’ll work quite well together in the following months, given your… peculiar circumstances.”

God, I absolutely love the points that Travis made about Devo is TTAZZ.
Like, Devo’s not a great person, we can see this again and again through his actions.
Like, me and Devo? We would not get along as people. I can honestly guarantee that we’d be be at each others throats in minutes if we ever met in real life. He’s a self-righteous mess of a young adult, and that’s the point!
Being raised in a situation like Devo was (and by the type of people he was raised by) doesn’t make you a good person, it makes you an angry mess.
(Speaking from experience here, Devo reminds me of myself when I finally started thinking for myself, and not just following what my parents said, thinking of that just makes you mad.)
But? As a character?
He’s just an amazing, complex character that’s full of faults, and I’m absolutely loving watching him try to grow as a person. And seeing people take their hate out of Travis for how Devo is as a person, not as a character, just makes me upset.
