I noticed all these people on TikTok bugging out when using the teenager filter, looking at the more youthful version of themselves and sometimes crying over it. I was curious and opened up the app only to be hit with a different filter called "bold glamor". Filters are nothing new and beauty filters are quite commonly used but, this filter absolutely broke my heart and made me cry because it didn't just put makeup on me or some fake lashes or give me puppy ears. It completely took away "MY" face. Every distinct thing about me. My thin upper lip. My sneaky eye and deep eye color. The bump on my nose that I got from my ancestors. My mismatched eyebrows which grow in completely differently made shockingly clear during the pandemic when I was trying to go all natural with everything (They say sisters not twins were mine are more like cousins 😂). Basically every unique quirky thing about my appearance is gone..... And then I thought... THIS is what we're teaching our young ones. We're showing them that when they look into a mirror, the only way that they will be glamorous and beautiful is if they spend money. Pay as much as you can to take the 'you' out of your face. It made me so so sad. Especially since I have some young little girls who I adore in my life and I can't bear to imagine them seeing themselves ever as less than the perfections that they already are and will continue to be. I'm not judging anyone who does things like this to themselves. To each his own and you do whatever makes you happy but we've gotten to this level of boring homogeny where I'm looking at this picture And it could be three or four other people interchangeably. I don't know why this pic popped up in my memories just now but it reminded me that the lovely designer of this dress @malanbreton is showing for NY fashion week and I am sad to miss it. This was one of the happiest days of my life. I was proud to be unapologetically myself and felt like a queen 👑. I also remember that me in this dress got a lotta people Maaaaaaaaaaaaad 🤣and that this business can be cruel when magazines make more money using unflattering photos of you instead of picking on ones where you shine.
