the biggest relief anna would feel if she could see this random man willing and ready to kill for, die for, and live for her daughter. the relief she would feel if she could see the parental love and care her daughter has now. the relief she would feel that that man slaughtered a whole bunch of people, including her best friend, so her daughter could live. there is no doubt in my mind anna would root on joel to the very end.

Ellie wanting to cuddle but not knowing how to initiate it so when they're sitting on the couch Ellie just starts scooching closer to Joel, not even a few seconds later Joel realizes what she's doing and opens his arms for her and hugs her tightly, giving a kiss on her head. For a while she just gets close to him so he hugs her, its a confirmation to him too, so after that he hugs her a lot more knowing that she's comfortable with it. after she feels safe to initiate they just cuddle all the time. Joel starts receiving all lot of kisses on his cheeks and alot of tight tight hugs.

joel mourning ellie's childhood and by that I mean, him wishing he could have been there from the minute she was born and hating how she's experienced how evil the world truly is at such a young age

i love you angry girls. i love you women who want to burn it all down. i love you feminine figures who have suffered for all of the things you cannot control. i love you ladies with biblical rage. i love you gals who are barely holding it together and want to let it loose.

Apart from being a slightly-anachronistic-with-funky-music-period film, Catherine called Birdy is possibly one of the few examples in fiction where life in the middle ages is portrayed with its joys and sorrows, meaning it's not all grit and filth and religion and misogyny (and while there is THAT), you can see how children still behave like children, how a rebellious teen is still a rebellious teen, who tries to be gross, who annoys their siblings, who tries to play the flute with one nostril, who is excited to have a whittled bear figurine and dreams of wrestling a lion, gossips with their best friend and likes to read about the gruesome deaths of saints
