Hi there! I have a little problem. I found a few stories tagged as "doesn't believe Derek exists" over in The Sterek Library, and I CRAVE those, they are so brilliant. There aren't any more tagged over there though, and I am honestly at a loss as to how to find more of them. How would I even search for them on AO3? Any ideas? Thanks a lot for existing so that I can ask you in the first place ^^
Hey!! First of all, sorry it’s taken so long to reply! At first I thought you meant “Derek was taken by the Ghost Riders”, but then I figured (I think - I hope) that you meant “Derek/Stiles are together but none of Stiles’ friends believe this ~Derek guy exists”, which is also a trope I looooove. And then I was super busy preparing for a trip I’m taking tomorrow. :P But now my bags are packed and I got nothing but time so let’s see. *cracks knuckles*

I checked out all of the Sterek Library fics in that tag and unfortunately, those works on AO3 don’t each tag for that concept in a way that I could group them together to be a canonical (a tag you can find in the filters). :( The best they seem to be tagged with is
Alternate Universe - College/University
Established Relationship
Secret Relationship
Which are super broad categories so not super helpful /o\
I tried running a search for other terms related but no dice - the only things I uncovered were 2 private bookmarks:
People don't believe Derek exists
ppl think Derek doesn't exist
We can’t see the works related because of their being private, but they do have a wording we can work with!
Making a New AO3 Tag
The rules for creating new canonicals (filter tags) are that we need 3 unique uses, which means 3 different works by 3 different users.
So if enough authors (3 specifically) are willing to add a broad-ish/unambiguous tag like the following to their work, then we could make it filterable!
People Don’t Believe Stiles’ Boyfriend Derek is Real*
*I would say “Real” instead of “Exists” so we can group the fics where people believe Stiles does have a boyfriend but not that he’s that hot/awesome :P
The tag can be added to any work (old or new) and it can be an author’s tag or a bookmark tag by another user, so long as the latter isn’t Private.
Sorry again for the delay in getting back to you, and sorry I couldn’t be of more help but I’m a huge fan of this concept myself so hopefully we get some works tagged with it soon! ^_^

General PSA
Hey Teen Wolf Pack, this account’s been kind of quiet for a while as our team has evolved (sorry, can’t help it, still laughing about that). Anyway, just wanted to let you know of some general happenings on the archive. A pretty big wrangling guideline has been tweaked and as a result, you’re going to see a lot more Freeform/Additional Tags that have full names instead of just the first or last name.
For example, instead of BAMF Sheriff, you’ll see BAMF Sheriff Stilinski. Sometimes, both the single-name tag and full-name tags will exist at the same time, but you’ll see more works being housed at the full-name tag when possible. This will happen in all cases where the single-name tag has been used only in one fandom, otherwise the single-name tag will remain where it is.
Overall, this is a great move for both wranglers and users because it means less tags accidentally being used in other fandoms and then creating a mess we have to untangle.
For the readers, this doesn’t change much except that you may see an influx of works at the full name level (the number of works at the single name level will not change). If looking for the greatest number of works, however, I still recommend to filter using the single-name tag if there is one.
For the creators, this also doesn’t change anything, but if you wanted to make a wrangler/reader’s life easier, you could try your best to always submit full name tags (e.g., “Liam Dunbar is a BAMF” instead of “Liam is a BAMF” - Teen Wolf and One Direction fans will both thank you on this one <3)
This will be a slowish transition as we have so many tags and so few wranglers on the team currently, but please bear with us, we’re working as hard as we can!

Hi! I've been trying to find sterek fics where they're in a relationship but the pack doesn't know or they think the pack doesn't know. What tags would you suggest I use to search for it?
Hey there! My first instinct is to recommend the following two tags:
The Pack Doesn’t Know (works + bookmarks, filtered for Sterek) Scott Doesn’t Know (works + bookmarks, filtered for Sterek)
But in total that only brings about 12 works + 1 additional bookmark, and they may not all be about Sterek being in a secret relationship.
I got 15 works on Oblivious Pack when filtered for Sterek, but again their obliviousness may be about something other than Sterek:
Oblivious Pack (filtered for Sterek)
And I got 9 hits on this tag but that may not be what you’re looking for:
The Pack Finds Out (filtered for Sterek)
When I ran a tag search, I found this tag that only has 2 uses on it so won’t be available to filter on yet, but you can still read the works:

That seems to be it for Teen Wolf-specific tags but this may be of help too:
Secret Relationship (filtered for Sterek)*
*This will likely be a mixed bag, given that the secret relationships don’t have to be about Sterek to show up on this filter combination.
Unfortunately those are all the tags we have thus far that could help. Hopefully if more people tag for it, either as bookmarks or works, we’ll be able to make a filterable tag for you in the future!
P.S. If anyone would like a tag of this sort to be available on AO3, please tag for it specifically! E.g. The Pack Doesn’t Know About Derek/Stiles. We already have one similar tag: Sheriff Stilinski Finds Out About Derek/Stiles Relationship so feel free to model after that!

this is your psa to NOT USE AO3 TAGS the same way you would use tags on tumblr! AO3 goes through a lot of effort to create and track tags, whereas tumblr is freeflow and blog-respective. please only use AO3 tags that have story relevancy, NOT AS PERSONAL TAGS.

Summer is here again, so it’s time for the 2015 AO3 Ship Stats!
This list shows the 100 most popular relationship tags on the fanworks site Archive Of Our Own. There are 65 M/M pairings, 25 F/M, 4 F/F, 4 Gen, and 2 Other. (Please note that on AO3, ‘Name & Name’ indicates platonic relationships (Gen), while ‘Name/Name’ is used for romantic pairings.)
Of the 200 names on the list, 33 belong to women and 2 to characters of ambiguous gender - up from 29 women this time last year. 24 of the 200 names are POC, while 12 are characters of ambiguous race, up from 11 POC and 14 ambiguous in 2014.
