Thanks to smovs' hard work and many requests, timestamps are now on the credits form! if you can, give this comment a thumbs up so more people can see it!
and while we're at it, thanks for over 100k views!!
Since the project is finally finished, I thought people might like to see the reference materials given to all of the participants!
Because TAZ is a podcast with no visuals and no canonical look for anything, people were allowed to do whatever they wanted with the characters with a few specific exceptions, otherwise we were worried it might become impossible for people to follow the finished video.
Participants were given both a rough animatic to dictate screen direction, and a PDF that had written descriptions of what details absolutely had to be visible in the characters (Taako is an elf and he has a tall wizard hat mentioned in episode, the boys don't have bracers but Brian and Killian do, etc.), descriptions of the settings as given in-episode, the video specs required to be able to put the whole thing together in the end, a heavily edited version of @tazscripts transcript of the episode, and a few other details deemed important at the time. Participants were also given the email addresses of the people whos claimed parts came before and after their own in hopes that people would collaborate to make sure their shots connected well.
The written descriptions in the PDF were decorated with lovely illustrations like these to hopefully simplify the information people had to take in

You'll notice there are two versions of each the animatic and PDF, as linked below. Originally, the episode was only going to cover the second half post-commercial until the call for animators was reshared by Clint on Twitter at the last minute and enough people signed up that it felt appropriate to do the first part as well, and we are forever grateful because the episode is so much better for it! The Disney Channel-parody for the commercial was also completely Andobiki's idea, it was so exciting that I went digging through later episodes for clean "Davenport" clips specially for that.
A few favorite selections from the PDFs are shared as screenshots under the cut, but aside from that!
While I don't know if the others have seen it (send a message if you find out!), Travis watched about half of the episode ON STREAM the day the video came out! For anyone curious about his reaction, it's about an hour and 20 minutes into this twitch vod https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1719528840
Thank you to everyone who watched and shared the finished video, thank you even more to everyone who followed along even when this project seemed like it might not make it, and thank you the most to all of the animators yet again for making the amazing work you did!
An example of how much was cut from the final episode: Black text is used, red is important actions cut from audio, grey is just cut completely
Merle's excessive detail notes because everything about him changes so much over the course of the show
What the partitions for each section of animation look like in text. (Funnily, I chose this at random, but this particular section was taken by a group and turned into a single part)
The beautiful animatic
Best part of the animatic "OOC (out of character), go nuts"

TAZ Animated is now LIVE!
This was a multi-animator project that spanned nearly 6 years from 2017 to 2023 with over 150 participants! The video covers an edited version of episode 4 of The Adventure Zone: Balance running about 34 minutes long.
Hey! I just wanted to say congrats, and I just wanted to point out in the spreadsheet you didn't hyperlink the right twitter for Juckport, it still redirects to https://twitter(.)com/Cactoonz instead of https://twitter(.)com/Juckport. Good luck on your final subtitles, I'm really glad you stuck it out til the end!
It's fixed now!
Thank you for catching that and thank you even more for perusing the credits :)

An email was sent out yesterday requesting updated info for the credits. If you want to update or remove your name and website, you've been given access to a spreadsheet that shows what information will be shared publicly.
If you have lost the email that you originally contacted us with or didn't receive the email with the spreadsheet, send a message to [email protected] before January 23rd with the name and website you'd like to go by!
The blogs this message is being posted to are not frequently updated, but I think it’s important to make my stance excessively clear regardless of that.
This blog stands with the protesters fighting for justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and all other innocent black lives taken by police officers who still have not been arrested and charged appropriately for their crimes.
I implore all of you who follow these blogs to stand with the Black Lives Matter movement, listen to black voices and pay attention to what they’re asking for, and help them however you’re able.
This link leads to a collection of resources on how to assist the protests and places you can send donations to.
Please show love for your fellow humans. Property lost can be repaired or replaced, but lives can never be brought back. None of this would be happening if the officers at fault had been held accountable and charged for the murders.
in light of the tecent TAZ news: yes this project is still active, no we don’t yet know when it will be finished. The project is trapped in a delicate balance of keeping parts in the hands of people who will finish them rather than drop them (there have been MANY dropouts over time) and we have to respect the lives of the animators working for free.
I don’t understand why this project is suddenly getting a huge influx of asks but no, nothing has changed, still waiting on the last parts to be finished
A new spreadsheet has been made that confirms your part, your name, and the website you want to share in the credits! Make sure everything’s correct and tell your friends to check their email!
While there are only 4 unfinished parts left, it is impossible to say when the project will be finished. It IS however, in the process of editing.
On that note, due to circumstances the editing has recently been started from scratch and while the vast majority of sections are perfectly in tact, there have been several either lost to time (its tough keeping track of nearly 200 files), or incompatible with this new editing program for currently unknown reasons.
If you participated in this project, you're almost certainly fine and don't need to do anything, but check your email in the coming days as there is a chance your file might have been affected. If it has, we'll need that file resent immediately or there will be no choice but to give it to someone else.
is there anywhere else this project is being hosted/we can look for updates considering everything thats going on with tumblr atm?
As long as the actual website that is tumblr doesn’t go down completely, this blog will remain the main hub for communication and the first place the project is posted. After youtube that is, but an account hasn’t been set up yet. For twitter users, the first place it will go up will most likely be @steemie. Of course, once the project is finished and posted anyone is allowed to share the link wherever they want to so hopefully no matter where you wind up, word will be spread by someone out there.
As far as the projects status: The most concerning pieces of animation have been taken care of. We’re still waiting on some work, but the goal right now is sometime in january.
