i cant get this stupid ZNation crossover idea out of my head. It takes place during an alternate version of Season 2 Episode 9 "RoZwell"

Several months before the zombie outbreak, ZIM is captured by the government and transferred to Roswell, New Mexico. Just before the outbreak, he is put in a kind of stasis chamber for observation- the scientists never get a chance to come back for him when all hell breaks loose and he is soon forgotten.

Three years later, the Murphy gang arrive in Roswell and while exploring the underground base for supplies, come across the lab where ZIM has been in stasis for the entirety of the zombie apocalypse. He's let out, and ends up joining the Murphy gang since he has absolutely zero zombie apocalypse experience (minus mall zombies). He's kind of like a stray cat who just keeps hanging around.

Doc and 10K have a running bet for a while on whether or not ZIM's alien race is here to take over the Earth or not. Of course the gang eventually find out about ZIM's mission (pretty early on) and Warren tries to kick him out of the group since, you know, they're trying to save the human race and that's a huge conflict of interest.

His mission to destroy Earth is put on hold as he decides to help the gang find a cure- the zombies are taking all the glory of destroying the human race and ZIM can't have that. He has to SAVE the Earth so he can DESTROY it.

On top of all this, ZIM is trying to get into contact with his Tallest and dealing with PAK malfunctions as a result of government experimentation.

Why I don’t like nor ship Z/tar/a 🔥🚫💧

From a canon perspective:

I like Katara and Zuko as characters independent from each other. I feel that there is no need for them to be romantically involved.

The show had already given me much incentive as to why I feel for Katara and Aang’s relationship. Them being together in the end after episodes of buildup just makes more sense to me.

I’m not the biggest Maiko shipper, but I still feel Mai is still a better fit for Zuko than Katara. Sure, both of them lost their moms, but both Zuko and Mai grew up in the fire nation within abusive households. I’m sure those two would have a LOT more to relate to than “I lost my mom” But then got her back years later.

I just really can’t see Zuko wanting to be in a relationship with Katara. Like- I know Zuko has no romantic interest in Katara (and vise-versa) and it just feels really OOC for (both of them) to be in relationship with each other. Hell, we even see TWICE that the idea of them being a pairing disgusts them/makes them uncomfortable.

From a fandom perspective:

The ZK fandom’s harassment towards KA shippers for the last two decades. Their intrusive behavior and overall toxicity has killed any incentive for me to be intrigued by the idea of them as a couple. Coming across fanart of the two of them in a romantic setting makes me physically ill.

I’m repulsed by the idea of Katara marrying into the family that was responsible for the genocide of her own.

The way she’s oversexualized in the fandom, be it in her FN garb or her being tied to a tree.

The fandom reducing her to an abused housewife/baby-maker that needs Zuko’s saving.

Zuko being over-glorified as if he still doesn’t have some internalized racism that needs to be addressed. I love him- but he’s still problematic trash.

The fandom’s need to demonize or infantalize Asng- just because Katara was the one she CHOSE to be with.

Really, any other Zuko ship that doesnt involve Katara (or his own goddamn sister, Azula) I can vibe with.

TLDR: The ship makes the characters come off as completely OOC for me and the fandom is obnoxiously toxic. I’m already devoted to Kataang and there are better Zuko ships out there.

I really wish Z/tara shippers would not speak for all PoC. Not all PoC are uncomfortable with KaTaang and not all PoC are comfortable with ZeeKay. Especially when a lot of ZK fanfiction romanticize colonization and some ZK fanfiction/fanart sexualize Katara.

And I am not sure what ZKs are talking about with claiming Aang would force Katara to let go of her water tribe heritage...When the comics and Legend of Korra proved that false. And when a lot of Z/Tara fanfiction and fanart always have Katara in fire nation red and one ZK fanfic I read kept on going on about how "Katara's caramel colored skin looks so much better in fire nation red."

"Speaking for an entire people group" seems to be something Zutara fans like to do A LOT.

As for some problematic to full on racist things Zutara fans did, I remember seeing a "list" of it somewhere, and most of it was stuff that didn't really immediately scream racism but could suddenly get to that if the writers weren't careful... and then in the middle of it there's a freaking Pocahontas AU.

I'm all for problematic stuff in stories, even in romances. I'm all for "We are here to entertain, not educate, this ain't aimed at kids." But BOY that's one loaded topic I ain't touching. I'm staying in the incest ships and kinky smut corner where it's safer.

One thing that I will agree with Zutara fans on is that it is unfair to call them "colonizers" just because they like a ship. Hell, I've seen people can Dante Basco that. DANTE! A filipino man that is constantly talking about the importance of having more POC as actors, writers, etc.

the apocalypse one exists because of this fanart and conversations that followed, and as a lover of apocalyptic settings (you don’t want to know how many hours i’ve spent on the fallout games) i did what i always do and started Thinking About It

so far i have a clear vision of, as we talked about, nhs unwilling to give up luxuries because they matter to him. he gets joy out of frivolity and nmj can’t relate to that. i have a scene outlined in the early days of the apocalypse where they’re in a department store or mall or something and nhs is “wasting time” picking up unnecessary items. they argue about it and nhs storms off, stressed out and furious, and an equally enraged nmj lets him go (yes this IS referencing the scene where nmj destroys all nhs’ stuff in canon). obviously nhs encounters zombies (z nation is an intergral part of my personality, it’s Gotta be zombie apocalypse) and obviously nmj eventually comes to his rescue. they cry and hug about it and it doesn’t fix everything but it helps them level with each other and serves as a catalyst for them to understand each other better. soooo many mushy feelings in the middle of misery and death!

the main goal would just be sibling feelings, seeing each other as whole human beings, Good Shit. but i’m me so i’m obviously contemplating throwing in nielan 😌 i just haven’t thought too deeply about how to incorporate the lans yet

the wife one was a thought i had after talking to mirf about... i think that one drama where cao yuchen plays a character who has to crossdress because of reasons? and bc mirf and i are both constantly blorbofying everything we started hammering out how to make it nielan. idr the exact circumstance but somehow mirf referred to nmj as lxc’s wife and it burned itself into my brain immediately.

at first it was going to just be silly, someone asks which one of them is “the wife”, nmj says it’s him bc they both know the assumption is Not That and straight people are weird. it’s a funny joke to them, lxc starts referring to his wife at work out of habit, the way some couples say ‘mum’ or ‘dad’ so often to their children they start calling each other that, and when nmj comes for a company dinner or whatever everyone is REALLY SURPRISED and nielan get a good laugh out of it. but i’m Me so i poured a little too much feelings into it! here’s a rough draft;
