🎇2023 Fanfic Favourites🎆

Hi guys! I wanted to share some recs before the year ends! I have an inspiration blog for sharing original art (@qululq), a personnal blog for sharing fan art (ask off anon for url if you want) , but fanfiction is harder to share since it's on a separate platform. So here's a round-up of some of my most beloved stuff I read this year (not all of it was published this year, some are older fics! I also only picked one fic by author but do check their other works <3)

Things that can be read without knowing a particular fandom:

benefit of broken hearts - Hilarious and sweet rom-com about immortality based on the song Beach House by Carly rae Jepsen

Something Else Woke Up Inside Me - Short horror story based on the visuals of Monster by Red Velvet. One of the coolest monster concepts!

At This Point, Don't Let Go - (gift for meeee) Experimental story about body swapping based on this Perfume MV.

Coffee Realists & Tea Dreamers - (another gift for me. technically read in 2022 but since the author reveals were this year i'm including it!) Short story with all original characters in the universe of Werewolf the Apocalypse. The eeriness of areas that toe the line between urban and rural.

Touhou fics (for this it was really hard to only do one fic by author lol):

Longing That Transcends Memory (by @freshlybakedspiderbread) - Various stories about love centered on Akyuu, based on the TH ship week prompts and exploring so many fun concepts and aspects of her character.

The Immortals (by @mimicteruyo) - Diary of Mokou long after the fall of Gensokyo, about eternity and the fates that befell a big cast of long-living Touhou characters.

Erin Yagokoro Says Nothing (by @yukareimu) - Pre-canon pre-Eientei TeruEri fic. I feel like saying too much would spoil it. It's short and brilliant so go see for yourself!

The Cicada Shell Diary (by @littlejustices) - LittleJustices strikes again with another amazing diary-format AkyuuRei fic. Really creative and elegant take on the ship.

Various other fandoms:

[LoZ: Majora's Mask] A World Reborn (by @theseventhsage) - A few days in Cremia's life after the world didn't end, with a focus on her unrequited love for Anju who reunited with Kafei.

[Tiger Tiger] Among the roses - Luck/Ludovica from the POV of an outsider noble as Ludo reappears in the public eye!

[Yellowjackets] An Unofficial Anthology of the Online Fandom for the Yellowjackets Tragedy (warning: doesn't work on mobile) - Fake internet pages from the Yellowjacket universe and its true crime community and Yellowjackets RPF writers. Super fun.

[early Dreamcatcher MV continuity] Room 808 - A short take on the events of the Chase Me MV. This was my intro to K-pop MV fanfics and to Dreamcatcher!

So, not to open up a whole can of worms here but...

Someone on Twitter said this meant Yukareimu was canon. Because "the moon is so beautiful tonight" is a sorta roundabout way of saying "I love you". But in context it doesn't really work like that I think.

Also I refuse to think so.

Acerenastuff's wishlist

Wishes: I don’t mind any mediums, just use the one you’re most comfy with! (Though I am a bit rusty on fanfic to be quite honest)

As for what’s in it,

I’d love to see the DiPP girls. DiPP has always fascinated me as a macabre story set in Gensokyo and I’d love to see what Gensokyo would have been if ZUN continued with this style of storytelling.

But if you can’t do DiPP you can do Hifuu club instead :] I’d always love to see more of Renko and Merry!

And this is totally optional, but as for any specific activities, I can’t help but think of seeing both pairs dancing? Not romantically for the DiPP girls but more like “villain swindles protagonist into dancing with them during their villain song” kinda dancing.

Pet peeves: If you are doing the DiPP girls just please don’t portray Jacketko as a yandere or the usual insane anime woman. And if you choose hifuu club I’d like to request for Merry to not be portrayed as a shy or nervous character like most fan works.

Abilities: Drawing, I usually do lineless art when making touhou nowadays :]

Won’t do: Truth be told I am a bit rusty at portraying general romantic stuff, but I guess I don’t mind doing ships?

But no incest ships ofc. And no master/servant ships (like KaguEirin) or mentor/mentee ships (like YukaReimu) please. I just find them a bit weird. And no ships involving the fairies or other child-like characters please.

Voluntary santa: I don’t think I’ll be able to do that this year, one wish to grant is already a lot on my shoulders-

Postscript: This is my first ever touhou secret santa and I wish everyone luck on wish granting :D

yukari puts posters up with this meme on them all around hakurei shrine (and by that i mean makes ran do it, who instead makes chen do it) and reimu just interprets it as some weird act of flirtation on yukaris part when in reality it was just a prank

i forget sorry is there somefin about yukareimu that means i should block on sight or is it a personal preference

a mix? theres probably a lot of personal preference but my problems are mostly "yukari is vastly older than reimu and likely saw her grow up and therefore likely has a far more aunt-like relation to reimu than anything romantic or even parental" and "yukari has an entire group of peers as old as she is who are also far more amicable to her e.g. yuyuko"

now if i have to explain why hp is autoblock then the world is in shambles (/j for this sentence)
