the significance of wilhelm getting to reclaim being filmed by third parties
when the sex tape happened he was being filmed against his will and it basically destroyed his and simon's lives. he developed a whole fear of public speech around that too. no one would've blamed him if he let august do the speech instead.

you know what's a thing i didn't realize was obvious for us as an audience but not for the characters until it happened?
when ayub says "did he just offer to give up the crown for you?"
for us as a fandom it was obvious from day 1 that wille would abdicate, but simon didn't know that (and neither did rosh and ayub obviously)
like I think this is what made the difference in the end! wille offering two years of secrecy and then coming out was still asking too much of simon who never wanted to be a secret, and who told him everything had to be on his terms
but when wille offers to straight up crumble the government of sweden just to be with simon, I think this is when simon realizes that it's not that everything has to be on wille's terms like he once thought, it's that wille just doesn't know what else to offer him bc he's never had any other options before, but he is willing to do what it takes
which is also when he realizes that he can also meet wille halfway (meaning, the two years of being a secret) bc if wille was willing to abdicate then simon can also make the sacrifice, and not just that but he realized that he was also willing to just to keep wille

you know what, the more i think about it the more i am super into s3 turning all of the fanon interpretations of the royal family's reaction to wille's queerness over on its head.
first we have erik, who was (as much for the fandom as for wille) supposed to be this paragon of acceptance and just a wonderful protective older brother for wille, and whose loss we all mourned alongside wille because it felt like he'd just lost the only person who accepted him, being just as much of a byproduct of his upbringing and his school, and perpetuating homophobic violence.
and kristina, who was supposed to be the violently homophobic one, who wanted to keep wille in line and would have hated simon, actually being nice and welcoming to simon and agreeing to protect him. ludwig even tries to make conversation with him. they're both so nice to him. like, all context aside, that is their son's boyfriend and they wanted to meet him.
I feel like this season really was not what I expected in so many different ways but I loved this part so much. people are never what you expect.
