Witch of Betrayal
Explanation of the fan spell in the fic found here
Warning for angst, blood, and ambiguous ending under the cut. Interpret YouGear's fate as you like lol
It was supposed to be easy.
"No no no no, why did you do that?! Gear!!"
It was supposed to be easy, so...
"I'm sorry... I just..."
Why did it end like this, with a gaping wound in his chest, pouring blood by the second? Why did it end like this, held in his lover’s arms and staining his pure white sweater red.
Gear raises a monstrous hand, brushing the back of one claw against Youtarou's face to catch the panicked tears dripping down to his chin, butterfly gentle, and accidentally leaves a smear of that same hot, sticky red across one pale cheek. They both know. They both know.
The weapon responsible lies in a patch of sunlight, burning silver coated crimson glinting cruelly at them both.
"When I saw that... You were going to be hurt..."
He had lived for so long. He had survived plagues. War. Famine. The loss of his clan. His heart being broken. The confrontation with Sloth. And yet, of all those dangers, the thing that did him in was a lone Subclass on the run, with a stolen holy weapon no one had thought or knew to tell them of.
The thing that did him in was his own bleeding heart.
"Idiot...!"
Youtarou grabs hold of his hand, firm despite the way it shakes, and suddenly Gear thinks of all the things he had wanted to do with him. They were going to travel the world, at some point. They were going to raise a family, one day, when he no longer had to hide. Youtarou… Was going to become his, for longer than a single human’s lifespan.
For longer than forever.
Gear’s hand reverts to human but for the unnatural color of his nails, fur shedding to reveal smooth skin. His breaths are becoming more shallow by the moment.
It hurts.
He doesn’t want it to end yet. All those dreams, those desires, that spark for life that had been dwindling down this one amazing, incredible, ridiculous human had roused back into a roaring fire, that wonderful, bright future ahead of them… It’s slipping through his fingers, no matter how hard he tries to staunch the flow.
Gear’s lips tremble, but Youtarou beats him to it. Parts his own to speak.
"B... Beast beneath the moonlight, f-for whom do you cry? Take my hand a-and...!" His breath hitches as his voice breaks. Gear laces their fingers, and the rest of his mate almost breaks, too, he can see it. "Weave a tapestry among the stars, made of red heart–" Youtarou hiccups, powers on. Gear wishes he’d stop. Youtarou has never been one to listen, though, not unless he made him, and as he muses bitterly that he had always known, somewhere inside, that that stubborn tenacity would be his beloved’s downfall, the spell continues, "strings and golden thread, wrapped tight around our f-fingers. You can't... Can't return to those halcyon days, but...!" Youtarou bows his head, holds him as close as he dares, and puts every last scrap of magic he has into his chant, "But you can reverse cruel fate! Golden Fleece!"
He feels more than sees the magic taking root, Gear knows, the sensation of a second wind nigh overwhelming him, gasps for air his body had been denying screaming lungs. "I won't betray you..."
Gear watches him with sad, sad eyes, and knows they have a limited amount of time before Youtarou runs out of fuel for his spell and it's all for naught. Knows this stupid, wonderful human will kill himself before he allows the werewolf to die. "I know you won't."
"Hospital. Now."
Even if nothing can be done... Humans always try.

This beautiful development was meant to be an apology for @faith-gigliorosa but their last post now made me realize that if Gear will die before Youtarou, he will have to stare down at his empty hands and see in them all the times they held Gear, and realize that they'll never hold him ever again.
And if Youtarou will die before Gear, he will have to look down at his empty hands and see in them the years he's spent watching this kid grow and how he slowly turned into an adult right between them, and realize that they'll never hold him ever again.
SO YOU BROUGHT IT ON YOURSELF FAITH *LAUGHS EVILLY*

With both of us now possibly shipping TsuruYouta: Any Headcannons/thoughts for these two lovely young men?
OHH YES YES I LOVE THAT YOU MAKE ME TALK ON THEM 😁😁
So I imagine Tsurugi getting so fascinated with Youtarou's dolls, rambling and rambling on the fact that they look like Mikuni's and that he can't believe that Youtarou can control them with only the power of the moon.
Youtarou enjoys teaching Tsurugi how to cook. They even engage in silly competitions that he absolutely loves, but what he loves even more is to use Gear as their master chef judge.
Youtarou also teaches Tsurugi to knit, and the baby bean even made Youtarou and Gear pullovers as christmas gifts.
Tsurugi adores braiding Youtarou's hair and sometimes he even gets silly with it and puts small flowers in it. He thinks Youtarou doesn't know, but that's actually one of the things Youtarou cherishes the most about Tsurugi - his childish, fun side.
They also enjoy grooming Gear's wolf, and even though Tsurugi sometimes gets silly with the fur, Gear actually adores having his descendant near him and even more to see his smile and hear his laugh as he and Youtarou get into a fur fight.
And the first time Youtarou and Tsurugi shared a bed, Tsurugi learned what's like to experience that kind of nervousness, what's like to feel a body heat warming you and as they grew comfortable with each other, he also learned what's like to feel safe.

HANDS DOWN GEAR WOULD HAVE A BREEDING KINK
Isn't this what all animals have though? And he's half wolf so he might feel–
SO
Maybe this is the real reason why he knew nothing of having descendants and he fuCKING LIED *maniac laugh*
But but but! Imagine a damn huge army of people - kids, teens, adults, everything - and they all come to Gear's house and they're deadass like *in heavy voice* "you're our father!"
And Youtarou behind him like
