Can I request a New Year’s Eve or Winter Getaway for the Flynn and Adler families? Can include their children too! 💕
Tumblr media
thank you, Amanda! here's the bougie vacation Charlie and Sydney deserve, with their families 😌
word count: 4.1k
no warnings, just family time
this was inspired by this post from @scungilliwoman and features her babies with their own babies
“And you’re sure you’ll be ok while we’re gone?” Charlie asked as she put on her coat, standing by the door, Sydney doing the same.
Rafe smiled reassuringly at his wife, placing a kiss on her cheek. “Honey it’s just for a few hours. You and Sydney enjoy your afternoon out and when you get back, we’ll have a wonderful dinner then we can all watch the fireworks at midnight.”
Sydney was observed her two friends talking when she felt a tug on her pants. She looked down and saw her youngest, Colin, stare at her, his green eyes huge. “Mommy, what time will you be back?” he asked, almost pouting.
Sydney’s heart melted as she scooped her four year-old son up in her arms, he was getting bigger and bigger every day. “Aww sweetheart, now I don’t know if I even want to leave.” she said, rubbing his back.
She and Charlie were only going to enjoy a spa date for the afternoon, all paid for by Rafe of course, during day four of their family vacation.
Rafe and Charlie invited the Flynns to a holiday vacation in Switzerland. The Adlers rented out a huge villa for the two families to stay in.
When Sydney hesitantly asked why Charlie was ok to go back to Switzerland after the Avery incident, Mrs. Adler simply said that her children wanted to go check out castles after Rafe told them tales of knights and dragons.
Rafe also saw it as an opportunity for business with Harry while Charlie wanted to spend the New Year’s celebration with friends.
So here they all were, in a villa in Switzerland on New Year’s Eve.
Harry walked over to them, standing in front of Sydney and ruffling their son’s hair, making Colin giggle. “You can let mommy have some girl time with Aunt Charlie. We’ll be ok here, won’t we, mate?”
Colin looked up at his dad and suddenly his mood made a one-eighty degree turn, his frown twitching up into a smile. “Yeah!” he exclaimed proudly, grinning at Harry.
Sydney simply laughed, hugging Colin tight and leaving kisses over his head before putting him back down. She smiled as Harry high-fived their son before the little guy ran to the living room where the rest of the kids were playing with the toys they brought along on the trip.
She was glad her children found friends in the Adler twins, and not just because she absolutely loved Charlie, but because they were also in similar situations, what with their fathers more or less having the same obsession.
Both Drake-related and treasure-related.
Sydney looked up at Harry, who was grinning smugly.
“Darling, relax.” Harry started, “You deserve the break. Ol’ Rafe and I will make sure the kids take their naps so they can stay up for the fireworks later.” The couple glanced over to their friends who had gone to their own children, Charlie hugging them.
Sydney looked back up at her own husband. “Baby, even Nadine Ross has a hard time controlling our kids when they’re all together. I love you but are you sure you can do this?” she asked, concerned.
Harry got into a lot of messes he thought he could handle, where he ended up needing help in. And taking care of the four kids with only Rafe Adler with him was definitely a mess that he needed more assistance in than just his business partner who caved in to his children just as easily as Harry himself did.
But Harry only grinned, oozing his usual confidence. “Oh I can’t wait to tell you I told you so when you get back.” he teased smugly, leaning close to Sydney.
She blinked twice before raising an eyebrow. In the back of her head, she was still worried, wondering just who would end up crying by the time she and Charlie got back, the children or their dads.
But if that’s how Harry wanted to play it…
Sydney smiled sweetly. “Ok. We’ll be back in a few hours, if you burn down the villa please make sure the children are safe. Don’t be afraid to ask the Shoreline mercenaries Rafe has surrounding the place for help”
Harry shook his head playfully. “Yes, very funny. By the time you get back, they’ll still all be asleep because they love and respect me… and Rafe too, I guess.”
Sydney snorted before placing a quick peck on Harry’s lips. “Love you, baby.” She turned to Charlie, who was walking towards them with Rafe right beside her. “You ready?”
Charlie smiled at her. “Yep. Just had to make sure my husband here knows not to give Ava any more cupcakes before dinner.”
Rafe scoffed, feigning offense. “I only bought the cupcakes, you’re the one who gave her two at lunchtime.”
Then it was Charlie who reacted, jaw dropping. “She said please! And I didn’t know you already gave her one for breakfast.”
Sydney bit back a giggle, and looked at Harry to see he was also amused at the situation. No Adler and Flynn family vacation was complete without one or both couples getting into little arguments like that, honestly.
No fighting was even more suspicious actually.
Rafe, almost embarrassed at being caught, cleared his throat before placing an arm around his wife. “Yes well, we’ll have to bake them from scratch anyway since there’s none left, and since they’ll be napping the whole afternoon, that won’t happen again, honey. Now then,” he looked from Charlie to Sydney. “You two don’t want to be late for your reservation. They serve food in between massage sessions.”
Sydney gasped, slapping Harry’s chest, her husband yelling ‘Ow!’.
“Food? Massage sessions? Plural?” She almost wanted to ask if they served dinner and if she and Charlie could be back by midnight instead.
Rafe smirked, looking proud. “You both deserve it.” Then he opened the door for them. “The limo’s outside waiting. There’s some wine there too so-”
Suddenly Charlie grabbed Sydney’s wrist and the smaller woman started dragging her outside, quickly kissing Rafe on her way out. “Be good, take care of the kids. See you later.” she said as she walked outside, Sydney right behind her.
In the driveway was the black limo, behind it was an SUV, two Shoreline mercenaries already waiting. Of course Rafe wasn’t going to let his wife and her friend just go alone.
Sydney waved at Harry and Rafe, smiling. “What she said!”
She and Charlie were out in the cold for only a few seconds before they were inside the rather spacious limo, the driver greeting them before they entered the car. And just as Rafe said, there was a wine bottle in an ice bucket in front of them, two glasses just waiting to be filled.
Charlie opened the bottle to pour them two glasses as the car started to move. “You realize they just want us out of the house because they want to plan another heist or something.” she said casually, like she knew all along.
Meanwhile Sydney in fact did not know that. But she should’ve suspected it when Harry kept staring at the ceiling in the castle they toured yesterday. And here she thought he appreciated how intricately painted it was.
He was checking for cameras and alarms, that made more sense.
Sydney took the glass of wine from Charlie. She stared at the contents before humming thoughtfully. “I don’t think the kids are gonna give them the time to plan.”
Her friend grinned, raising her own glass. “Oh not at all. But I still appreciate that they thought of giving us this afternoon together to get us out of the way.” Her green eyes sparkled mischievously. “So why shouldn't we enjoy it?”
Sydney definitely loved Charlie.
Note to self, buy her an accessory to go with the dress you gave her to wear for New Year’s.
Rafe was going to think he was the luckiest damn man alive if he didn’t yet.
She toasted with Charlie and was excited to spend the afternoon with her friend.
-----------------------------------------------
Harry and Rafe stood in front of all four kids as they sat on the sofa, staring up at the two men with wide eyes, Madeline swinging her legs and Ava copying her.
Ah yes, the calm before the storm, but Sydney and Charlie don’t know is that there is no storm to come.
Harry thought as he looked at the children, all quiet and behaved.
Nadine was obviously exaggerating. Their children were angels when they wanted to be! The woman probably did something wrong or pissed them off.
Oliver took a deep breath and raised his hand. “Dad,” he started, looking at Rafe. “Can we go and play outside in the snow now?” he asked, and the other children all looked eager as soon as he said it.
Rafe shook his head. “Sorry, buddy, I don’t want you guys catching a cold. None of you want to miss out on the fireworks later, right?”
Oliver frowned, bringing his hand back down, but he was still fired up. “We won’t get sick, we promise!”
“Even if I said yes, it’s still too cold out for all of you. We can go out and play tomorrow, ok?” Rafe said, and Harry stared in shock, always still surprised when his usually angry little friend could be so sweet and caring to his children.
See now where was that Rafe when Harry needed someone to pay for drinks?
Oliver finally seemed to relent, sighing in defeat. “Ok, dad. So what else can we do?”
Rafe snapped his fingers. “Ah yes. Well, your Uncle Harry has that covered.” He said, glancing at his business partner and occasional friend. “I’ll let him explain while I go grab Bandit from your room, hmm?”
Harry nodded confidently. “Yep, leave it to me, mate.” Then he blinked twice before looking back at Rafe. “What exactly am I doing here?” he whispered, like the kids weren’t sitting right there.
Rafe rolled his eyes. “Figure it out, Flynn. I don’t know, find a movie they can watch ‘til they fall asleep. We just need three hours before the girls get back. The heist has to happen tomorrow or we’ll have to find another excuse to stay another day in Switzerland.”
And heaven knows how suspicious their wives were every time that happened.
Harry remembered almost successfully convincing Sydney to stay two more days in Greece, before he knocked his suitcase over and the blueprints for a museum he planned to rob came tumbling out.
He needed to keep them underneath his underwear next time, dammit.
But It wasn’t like his wife was against it, no. She and Charlie just didn’t like it when his and Rafe’s plans got a bit… personal.
So the artifact he and Rafe wanted to steal in Greece just so happened to be the same one Sam and Sully were after? Huge coincidence!
Harry nodded, the gears in his mind turning as he tried to think of a boring show or movie that could keep the kids asleep. “Right. Leave it to me.” he said confidently.
Rafe gave him a pointed look before he went up the stairs to Oliver and Colin’s room.
Now all the kids were staring at Harry, waiting. For what, he didn’t know yet either.
Madeline pointed at something behind him. “Daddy, the remote is behind you.” his seven year-old daughter said matter-of-factly.
Harry turned his head to see the remote was in fact on the coffee table. He picked it up before turning his whole body around to the tv and turning the big screen on. “Right, thank you, Maddie, love. Now, let’s see here…”
He scrolled through different movies and felt like something was off.
The kids were still waiting patiently on the couch. Usually Colin, Ava and Oliver would start running around screaming, with Madeline chasing them and playing hide-and-seek or tag with the younger kids.
But they were silent. Too silent.
Harry felt like a gazelle nervously grazing on grass, waiting to be pounced on by lions. Or in this case, lion cubs.
He just needed to find a boring or slow kid-friendly movie. He thought of going to documentaries but he didn’t want to risk exposing the kids to questionable content. Sydney made that mistake when she watched a turtle documentary and they thought it was cute until the turtles went a bit R-rated.
He only laughed as his wife fumbled with the remote control and stuttered trying to avoid their kids’ questions. She ended up asking Harry to drive them all to Mcdonald’s and buy happy meals for Maddie and Colin.
So it had to be a movie, maybe an animated one, one without action or romance that went too far.
Finally Harry reached a Disney movie he had never encountered before. And he thought he watched them all already.
He raised an eyebrow. “Maddie,” he turned to his daughter, her green eyes locking onto his own. “Have you watched A Bug’s Life yet?”
His daughter hummed thoughtfully before shaking her head, Colin copying her. “No, not yet.”
Harry grinned. Ah-ha! But to be sure, he looked at the four year-old twins. “Ava, Oliver, how ‘bout you two?”
Ava was the one who answered. “No, Uncle Harry.” the girl was too polite and sweet to be Rafe's daughter sometimes. He still found it hard to believe that little angel was the same one who tortured Nadine.
Maybe it was the sugar from so many cupcakes?
Well either way, she and the rest of the kids weren’t hyper now, completely willing to sit down and watch a movie.
Harry turned back to the tv and stared at the Play button.
A Bug’s Life.
Safe to say a life of a little creature like that wasn’t too exciting, right? Probably just them gathering food and giving it to their colonies or something. Boring, uninteresting, a guaranteed snooze fest, literally.
Reassuring himself that this was the movie, he clicked OK on the remote and the familiar castle logo with accompanying instrumental music appeared.
He smiled before turning around to the kids, all of them already glued to the tv screen. That was also when Rafe came back down the stairs, carrying a stuffed animal version of the Adlers’ pet ferret - seriously, was that a rich people thing? To have a pet ferret? - Bandit.
Rafe walked over to the back of his couch, standing behind his kids, placing the stuffed toy in between them. “Here you go, guys.” he said lightly.
Ava craned her neck up and smiled, Oliver doing the same as he hugged the toy Bandit tight. “Thank you, daddy!” Ava squealed.
Rafe kissed the top of her head. “You’re very welcome, angel.” Then he kissed the top of Oliver’s head. “Take care of the little guy, huh?” he said, patting the stuffed toy. His son nodded before both twins went back to watching the movie.
Harry left the remote control on the top shelf by the television, where the kids wouldn’t be able to reach it.
Honestly he wanted to joke that not even Rafe could get it from that height but he promised Sydney he’d keep the short jokes to a minimum on this trip.
Once a day was enough.
Harry went over to his own children, hugging them tight and giving them kisses. “Maddie,” he started, “Uncle Rafe and I will just be in that room over there,” he said, pointing to the study behind them. “We’ll keep the door open but you’re in charge here. Ok, sweetheart?”
Madeline nodded, smiling at her father. And it still warmed Harry’s heart seeing his two beautiful children. Damn, he was the luckiest man in the world.
He ruffled Colin’s hair. “Be good for your big sister, all right?”
Colin grinned. “Uh-huh.”
And that was that.
Rafe was already waiting inside the study as Harry followed after him, leaving the door open so they could still see the kids from where they were sitting.
Rafe narrowed his eyes at him. “You sure that movie will bore them to sleep?
Harry scoffed, waving his partner off. “It’s called A Bug’s Life, mate. What’s so exciting about something like that?”
-----------------------------------------------
Sydney and Charlie got back to the house three hours later, refreshed, relaxed and rejuvenated. The session was great, the food was great, and Sydney enjoyed spending some quality time with her best friend. She realized they hadn’t been able to hang out, just the two of them, the whole vacation yet, so that was nice.
They stopped by the front door, glancing from the door to each other.
“It’s quiet.” they said together.
Charlie spoke next, “They couldn’t possibly have…”
Sydney shook her head. “No… No… right?” her voice going from sure to hesitant. “You think Rafe hired a babysitter?”
Charlie scoffed, “That he didn’t let go through his four-week screening period? I doubt it.”
Sydney gestured to the door. “Then open the door, let’s find out.” She was both nervous and excited. If Harry actually got the kids to behave and take their nap, she was going to both punch and kiss him. Punch because he was going to be absolutely smug about it for the next few days, and kiss because she was so proud of him.
Charlie slowly brought her hand to the doorknob, ready to turn it.
But they both jumped when it opened, to reveal little Madeline on the other side, smiling at them. “Hi Mommy! Hi Aunt Charlie!” she said cheerily, and Sydney looked her up and down. She didn’t seem to be covered in mud or snow or sweets.
Sydney grinned at her daughter, bending down to hug her. “Honey, hi! H-how are you?”
Madeline hugged Charlie next before saying, “I’m ok. How was the massage?”
Charlie patted the girl’s head. “Refreshing. Thanks for letting me borrow your mom for the afternoon.”
Madeline laughed and Sydney couldn’t help but smile, her daughter’s giggling absolutely adorable and infectious. Maddie moved out of the way to let the two moms in, and they were eager to see what awaited them.
They were only half surprised that both the living room and the kitchen looked like war zones.
Blankets and pillows on the big couch that seemed to form a fort, various stuffed toys on the floor like they were soldiers that died in battle.
The kitchen was a mess, bowls and whisks scattered on the kitchen counters, along with flour, frosting and egg shells. They looked for the final product, but the cupcake tray was empty.
Sydney glanced at Charlie who only smiled softly.
The smaller brunette looked at her friend. “Hey, it’s vacation, she’s allowed to be spoiled.” she said.
Sydney nodded, smiling back at her friend before turning to Madeline. The war was over but where were the other people involved in it?
“Maddie, sweetie, where’s your father and brother?”
Madeline’s eyes lit up as she bounced. “Oh oh oh! Mom! Daddy let us watch Bug’s Life! It was awesome!” she said happily. "We played bugs versus grasshoppers after. I’m the oldest so I got to be the grasshopper.” she added, and Sydney almost rolled her eyes, Madeline could be as smug and confident as Harry.
“And then you made cupcakes after?” Charlie asked, gesturing to the empty cupcake tray.
Madeline nodded. “Yup, yup! We got hungry after playing and we asked for cupcakes. Daddy and Uncle Rafe let us help!”
Ah, as usual, their husbands couldn’t say no to their children.
But the question remained…
“So where’s everyone now, Maddie?” Sydney asked lightly.
Maddie pointed to the door that led to the master’s bedroom on the ground floor. “Uncle Rafe, Oliver and Ava are in there.” Then she pointed to the stairs. “And I think Daddy and Colin are in the boys’ room. They all fell asleep a while ago.”
So they did take their naps.
Sydney fixed her daughter’s hair. “What about you, sweetie? Aren’t you tired?”
Madeline scoffed. “Mom, I’m seven years old! I’m a big girl, I don’t need naps.”
Sydney laughed. Of course she’d say that.
Sydney hummed, pretending to be deep in thought. “Oh if you say so. But you still look tired, Maddie. May I at least carry you upstairs when I check on your father and brother?”
Madeline seemed to battle with herself, wanting to prove a point or wanting to just give in and jump in her mom’s arms.
Sydney took one step towards the stairs before Madeline ran to her mother, raising her arms up. “Carry please!”
Charlie and Sydney shared a smile before the latter picked her daughter up. Madeline was getting bigger and this was one of those times Sydney was grateful she convinced Harry to get a gym for their house.
She kissed her daughter’s forehead before walking past the kitchen and the living room.
They stopped by the master’s bedroom, Charlie slowly opening the door.
And the sight that greeted them was absolutely precious. If Sydney weren’t holding Maddie, she would have loved to take a photo of Rafe at that moment.
The businessman was sleeping in the middle of the big bed, with his twins on either side of him, their stuffed toy version of Bandit on his chest as his children hugged both their father and the toy ferret.
Charlie stayed by the door, staring at her family. Sydney knew her friend was taking in the peaceful moment, her heart must be melting at the sight, enough to warm the chilly weather.
She didn’t want to interrupt so she squeezed Charlie’s shoulder and made her way to the stairs, catching a glimpse of her friend wiping a tear, a content smile on her face before she entered the bedroom and closed the door behind her.
Sydney walked up the stairs and down the hallway to the second room and almost cooed as she saw her husband and her son together.
Harry was lying down on Colin’s small bed, and her cocky husband was too tall for it. His legs were slanted to the side, his feet hanging off the mattress while Colin was in his arms, holding on to his favorite bedtime book.
She almost didn’t want to disturb them.
Maddie stirred in her arms. “Mommy,” her daughter said drowsily. “What time’s dinner? I’m sleepy.”
Sydney smiled, stroking Madeline’s back soothingly. “Not for a while. You can take a nap in mommy and daddy’s room, hmm?”
Madeline only nodded, resting her head against Sydney, closing her green eyes. Sydney brought her daughter to the bigger bedroom on the second floor, laying her on the bed gently before snuggling up behind her.
Sydney only closed her eyes briefly before she heard shuffling by the door and turned to see Harry enter, carrying a still sleeping Colin with him.
He brought Colin to sleep on the other side, setting him beside Madeline before gently lying on the bed as well, the two parents sandwiching their children between them.
Sydney smiled at her husband. “Crazy afternoon?” she whispered, teasing.
Harry huffed out a laugh. “Lesson learned, research what the bloody Disney movies are about before letting the kids watch them.”
Sydney grinned, reaching her hand across to hold her husband, their arms over their kids. “You still got them to take their naps.” A pause. “We saw the mess downstairs. Looked like a battle.”
“And thankfully we won the war.” Harry said playfully. He moved to kiss his wife’s hand. “But it was fun. Don’t think I ever saw Rafe look so stressed like he did while trying to perfect the cupcake recipe.”
Sydney rubbed his hand, looking up at him, adoration in her brown eyes. “Good job. We shouldn’t have doubted you guys.”
Harry, eyes wide, looked at her like she just grew a second head. But there was a question there as well. And Sydney knew just what it was.
She sighed exaggeratingly. “All right, you earned it. Say it.”
Harry relaxed and his smug smirk was back. “I told you so. All kids asleep by the time you got back.” A pause. “Except Madeline. I’ll allow you to take credit for her.”
Sydney stifled a laugh as to not wake the kids, but Harry could see the glee in her eyes.
Both families woke up by the time dinner was served, all provided for by a private chef Rafe hired. By midnight they moved to the overlooking balcony to watch the New Year’s fireworks, huddled together wearing their coats, huge smiles on the kids’ faces as they gazed at the dark night sky light up.
Sydney and Charlie decided to let their families stay in Switzerland for a few more days, much to the delight of everyone. And most especially their husbands, who were finally able to carry out their castle heist.
