One of the kids I tutor in Japanese asked me this week, "How much does manga cost in japan compared to over here?"
And, y'know, it's always a good thing to get to sate students' curiosities, even if it's not exactly what's on the lesson plan. I was rather eager to answer the question, since I knew I had the perfect thing to demonstrate it: a copy of a manga I owned in both English and Japanese!
...Then, reaching for my bookshelf, already having committed to giving the answer, I realized what kind of book cover I was showing to this shy 12 year old battle shounen-watching white boy,
(Here's the MSRP comparison, also. In case you wanted the answer.)

I hate the "manga is better than the anime" sentiment because it's absolutely (mostly) true. Not because of any technical reasons plot structure and pacing and junk. Forget the story. Manga is "better" than anime simply because we get shit like this,
This is from bloom into you and the mangaka is an absolute treasure.
They are more relatable than any fictional character.
Like hearing them talk about this thing they clearly poured their heart and soul into. It just feels more fulfilling, I guess.
And the mangaka directly addressing us. That's nice, too.
